Save the world from otherwordly hordes?

The mages/templars war seems to be secondary to the demons invading. Not that the story still can't have interesting twists or be done in a different way.
Personally I was hoping for a more political central plot. Even in Origins the Loghain storyline was more interesting than just fighting the Archdemon. I'm really hoping there's more to it.

A lot like what the Serebass was doing in Dragon Age Redemption actually.
Which makes sense considering it's a Mage vs Templar war. Mages have the power to bring creatures from the Fade into the physical world.

I think they decided that DA2 struggled because it didn't have that sort of thing. So went for the genericest plot possible. Or at least, decided to present it as the genericest plot possible, it's possible that actual game will have more depth.
You're jumping to conclusions and getting ready to rage and complain all from one trailer.
They said from the very beginning of DA3 that the Mage Templar war would be a big focus.
What you saw was just that. The portal in the sky was a tear in the veil, the creatures you saw were demons(they said there'd be new forms of demons in DA3), and for all we know that Horned dragon was probably Flemeth.
Not to mention all of those things(save Flemeth) are within the power of mages to accomplish(especially a whole army working together.)

It's a great thing, if you ask me, because true Fantasy live of both worlds: even A Song Of Ice And Fire had the Walkers coming from above to make the political struggle sound even more troublesome. I have great expectations for the plot this time around.

With the sky opening and creatures coming through in the trailer it seems like DA:I is returning to a more conventional fantasy plot. The big bad opens a portal, demons come through, you close it and save the world...

One could theorize that the demon invasion could be a result of the mage/templar war. The Veil gets torn during battle and we get a Soldier's Peak but on a much larger scale.
And possibly in multiple locations.

I think it's the contrary, they're probably going back to a "double trouble" plot like in DA:O, with the political aspect of the Templar/Mages war causing chaos while the demons arrive. It's pretty much the same thing that happened with Loghain aiming for a coup during the Blight in Origins.

And I sort of sense the "unite the warring templars, mages, qunari, other kingdoms...to fight the demons" coming on
I hope the monsters aren't the main enemy again.

I'm not basing things on just one trailer. There's the leaked survey too.
Mage/Templar war will no doubt play a role. Unite the feuding factions against the otherworldly hordes is the standard fantasy plot. As seen in DA:O, which was the standard fantasy plot executed very well.
edit: I acknowledged in the first post, it could just be the marketing.
edit2: I may not rage, but I do tend to the overly cynical side when it comes to trailers, I think. They just don't engage my enthusiasm very well, usually.

That doesn't really bother me, as long as there's still a lot of character depth and side stories other than the fighting of the big bad.
Also, the whole thing rather reminded me of the Burning Legion from Warcraft.

Going back to the trailer for Dragon Age Origins with the fight on the mountain, it didn't really portray the concept of the Arch Demon. They took a single quest as made a trailer out of it. I'd wager there's a lot more to it than what we're seeing in an announce trailer.
This would probably be more akin to the "This is the new ****" trailer with the in-engine graphics and unconnected cutscenes.
As such, this is a lot better in comparison.

Destroy the World
That what the E3 trailer revealed.
