To be honest, it looks more like a Martin book than a Tolkien book. Depends on how focused the politics of the game is. I seriously don't want derp herp political intrigue. I really want BioWare to study into this, make it as much as ASOIAF/The Witcher 2 as possible in terms of political intrigue.

My guess would be the whole rampant unhindered use of magic due to all out war. :D

I do not think I want a basic repeat of DAO.

Archdemon isn't really linked to the demons of the fade, though.  I think there's a lot of potential for the templar/mage war being at full scale and causing tears into the Fade to let demons run rampant.

I'm also hoping there's another Morrigan/Flemeth confrontation coming. :)

The pride demon sub plot of Origins was actually my favorite section of the story. I hope this time around we can side with the apostate mages and perhaps even become some form of abomination with the ability to shape shift into the demon inside of you.

This...
That thing was huge.

I have a feeling a good chunk of the game will be dealing with politics to actually find out what had happened and how to end it.

Or at least I'm hoping...

That what the E3 trailer revealed.

So we can side with the otherworldly invaders?

9/11 (Anders Chantry blow) was a mega ritual to release dark energies to earth, and when enough dark energies released "they" (the culprit) can open the Star Gate (The Veil) and all manner of demons and spirits will pour out into this world, and the One Eyed Dark Messiah (main enemy) will lead them and rule the world...Then the Al Mahdi (the Hero) and the Messiah Jesus Christ (co Hero maybe OGB) will unite the faithful, gather an army, the Black Flag from the East (Qunari or Tevinter whatever), to battle the Dajjal/Anti Christ and his army, bring light unto the world, bring justice, and peace...

I think it's the contrary, they're probably going back to a "double trouble" plot like in DA:O, with the political aspect of the Templar/Mages war causing chaos while the demons arrive. It's pretty much the same thing that happened with Loghain aiming for a coup during the Blight in Origins.

It's a great thing, if you ask me, because true Fantasy live of both worlds: even A Song Of Ice And Fire had the Walkers coming from above to make the political struggle sound even more troublesome. I have great expectations for the plot this time around.

this.

+ 2

Also, if the demons attacking everyone, is the cause for alliances, then I'm all for it; gives the chance of allying with Awakened Darkspawn.

ever think mages could have ripped a hole in the fade, thus the reason they are coming from the portal? I mean it is a Mage/Templar war after all. I wouldn't doubt the mages would do that as a weapon.

Hmm.. Now that someone pointed out it might be a Flemeth cameo... I can see a group of mages opening a huge tear in the Veil when their backs are against the wall. It's happened before and if the battle is a big one...

Oh... Maybe some demons in the Fade was manipulating things so just that sort of thing would happen to release them.

Anders bomb didn't cause that tear. We SURELY would of heard at least SOME hint of it in the books/comics that take place after DA2 if that was the case. It would be quite big news throughout the whole of Thedas... That tear is freaking humungous, time for the Greater Pride Demon?

Though I would like to just blame Anders for it

And I sort of sense the "unite the warring templars, mages, qunari, other kingdoms...to fight the demons" coming on :(

Oh gawd, I hope not. I think that would be the most disapointing thing they could do. The have used this formulaic plot too often before.

Perhaps it's only me, but I think Flemeth opened that tear in Veil. I mean, if that dragon is her, she is sitting right in front of the tear.

Going back to the trailer for Dragon Age Origins with the fight on the mountain, it didn't really portray the concept of the Arch Demon. They took a single quest as made a trailer out of it. I'd wager there's a lot more to it than what we're seeing in an announce trailer.

Indeed. They did the same thing with Dragon Age II, Hawke fighting the Arishok. That quest was not the central conflict of the game.

Thedas is not allied with the Qunari, and the line was "Our fragile alliances...crumble to dust."
That being said, even if we were allied with the Qunari it would not last.

Well, if you think about it Ferelden/Orlais, etc. being torn apart by the mage/Templar is the perfect time for the Qunari to attack.

If that so...the Veil ripping apart and demons going rampage is in the middle of the game, and when it is settled the last battle would be fighting the Qunari...

I have to say, I hate it, hate it, hate it. It's completely out of nowhere. How does it make sense in the world (the world of Thedas, I mean)?

The only vaguely reasonable thing I can think of is it's the Fade being torn asunder, but even that sounds like a horrible idea to me.

Ugly, UGLY characters, extensive redesigns again, a bizarre and out-of-nowhere plot (at least the alien part, the Qunari was expected)...

I'm worried. I really am worried for DA:I. not that it won't be a "good game," in that it's well designed, but the story seems utterly absurd. Diving headlong into fantasy...

*sigh*

...really? to everyone grousing, when in the history of fantasy fiction, from LotR (Books) to the current tv/movie/insert media here isn't there a huge conflict at the center of it all...Even the old D&D tabletop games had this...War is part of humanity sadly, and our art reflects this.

Every game ever marketed has had some element of warfare in it no matter the genre, and to simplify it further then good vs. evil, it is good old fashion competition between sides who each think they are right and who's getting the trophy/freedom/golden goose first. This is nothing new, just new approaches to it over the centuries and decades.

And secondly, it's a trailer...to peak interest, which it has for better or worse. and yes Varric was recognizable and so was Morrigan, and yes Kate Mulgrew was doing the voiceover, and then it blended and ended with Morrigan's VA doing the VO.... Subtly implying the "possession" angle from DAO or even Choatic Good vs Choatic/Neutral Evil...or something like that, with each woman representing a side? We could guess and speculate all day.

Frankly it is better to approach this type of thing with no preconceived notions or expectations so then you aren't disappointed, simple. People are real good at setting themselves up for disappointment unaided. And did I mention I'm over-the-moon excited Varric has made a return, I just hope his personality isn't lost and they kept the same VA for him, because it just wouldn't be the same...(Thinking of the huge difference in Anders from DAA to DA2, I blame Justice....) I prefer to watch and wait before I decide if I love it or hate it or nit pick it to death.

Um, yes I think a sundered veil in war involving powerful mages makes sense in the world of Thedas.

Ugly, UGLY characters, extensive redesigns again, a bizarre and out-of-nowhere plot (at least the alien part, the Qunari was expected)...

Eye of the beholder, I thought they looked fantastic.  How is the veil being sundered and the demons emerging (And they have already told us there were new types of demons in the works, I'm not sure where you're getting aliens from)?

I'm worried. I really am worried for DA:I. not that it won't be a "good game," in that it's well designed, but the story seems utterly absurd. Diving headlong into fantasy...

When wasn't it?  The website blurb tells us we're hunting the agents of chaos, leading me to believe that we're not fighting some otherworldly invader, but mortals with an agenda.

Ha. I can't even be annoyed by those who've evidently figured out the plot from that trailer and are already bored by it. It's kind of funny, really.

It's a different tack from DA2, certainly. But we do like to do that from game to game. The stakes are certainly higher. Hopefully you all like the details as they come out. Or complain about them... but since some of you enjoy doing that a lot, I imagine it's win/win overall. :)

So...everyone's cool with seeing Alduin again in the trailer? Just wondering...
