I agree, but I do hope that Varric doesn't become Anders2.0.  Please Mary, please, I'm begging you not to send your creation (and my second-favorite-video-game-character-of-all-time) on a chantry destroying, Thedas changing mission at the end of Inquisition.

Uh, he did have serious moments in DA2. Just because he looks sad in the trailer does not mean he will constantly weep in the game.

I think they did a great job at porting him to the new engine, IMO.

Still Varric, obvious as soon as you see him. so he hasn't lost much and the years and hardships (and a quick chest hair wax) have changed him. Different rendering engine and more life like features and less "I am a stumpy dwarf look". Just as long as it is the same VO artists and he retains some of his base personality, all is good.

I think Varric looks great. Very realistic. The eyebrows look a little different, but I'm chalking that up to his facial expression at the time.
Varric is my favorite part of the trailer. He's just awesome.

They have lots of time to tweak his look, too. I agree on the hair, it could be lightened up some to match the color in DA2.

The chest hair was so glorious that he was distracting the fighters on the battlefield.  While at first this seemed like a tactical advantage and allowed him to shoot his would be killers while they were lost in blissful gazing, he was eventually forced to cover it up after multiple allies swooned during critical moments in the battle.  That corpse he's mourning in the trailer?  Looked up from the fray for a moment and BAM! Taken out by a Templar because she couldn't look away.

Did anyone else imagine a hairy care bear stare?

My problem is just that his facial structure has changed, and he seems to have "lost" his receding hairline (potion of Rogaine TM?) and his forehead is smaller.

His snarky look was partly the way his nose and chin crumpled up, not just faces he made (or signs of the times/war). His chin and nose are less pointy too.

Like someone above said, now he just looks.... human-ish.

I dont like they that felt the need to pretty him up. His chest hair should be more than enough for anyone interested in a Varric LI. I dont want Dragon Age 90210, or Real World: Dragon Age (though that could be a funny Youtube channel).  I like that they created some characters that were not beautiful, but that were some of the best/ most fun to be around.

His forhead is smaller and face shorter than Varric's from DA2. That what distorts the perception and makes him look different. BTW - transition to Frostbite will leave you with different looks of characters, so be prepared.

I thought his jaw looked a bit off, all faces in the trailer look a bit weird in my opinion. Might be just the engine change or maybe they'll make some tweaks later, let's not forget the first screenshot of Varric.



About the chest hair. By principle, I approve of people covering the chest in a battle.

Have to agree with other posters about the fact that Varric has turned more to a human. From what I can see from the screenshot the body build has changed too and his facial structure resembles the human features more.

Varric did look 'off' to other dwarves in DA2 already but did not mind that much. The things that defined him have been taken away and that kind of saddens me .

Isabella looked completely different from DAO to DA2 for that matter but in DAO she only had a very small role and she wasn't defined as much as Varric who has been in the picture a lot as a mayor character.

although....seeing these two pictures side by side I have to review my previous statement...

Depending on the story, what has happened to Varric, he looks more realistic in the way that life on him has not been that easy as it has been while he lived in Kirkwall.

Morrigan and Varric both look different, that's for sure. But I like this new look.

I think Varric looks more rugged and sexier than ever. He had a bit of a babyface in Dragon Age 2 but now he looks more aged and mature.

I just hope that he is a Love Interest. My Inquisitor would take all the time in the world to "interrogate" him. =)

He does look different, especially cheekbones. They look kinda "deflated" to me. But this is probably an early iteration, it's a long way till Q3 2014.

I also approve the new design for Varric.  The only one who is acceptable in the trailer.

I totally disapprove the new look for Cassandra and specially Morrigan.
