This may make me a horrible person, but I gave zero f**ks about the dog. Sorry, Sam, in a universe where major characters die brutally on a regular basis, I'm not going to feel sad about killing you just because we played frisbee for two minutes.

To each his own, I for instance couldn't care less about major a-hole, I mean, Kenny.

So does anyone remember seeing a wrist watch in one of the desk drawers while looking for bandages? I didn't grab it on my run through since, what would I need it for but does anything happen if you take it?

I had Clem leave it as well.

I figured it was out of character for her to go "Oooh, shiny!" and take things from the house that she did not need to treat her arm. Beyond that, I also figure its going to backfire on those take it. I'm guessing someone is going to notice it is missing and later on someone is going to discover that Clem took it, damaging her relationship with whomever it belongs to.

Didn't Ben leave Clem to die(surrounded by Walkers, doing nothing to help her when he was tasked to)?

No sadz for Ben

The dog was one of the more poorly executed elements of the first episode. It kind of falls into that video game trope where animals are unrealistically vicious in order to play the 'monster' role to the player character.

Not that some dogs don't have food aggression issues, just that the family dog isn't going to turn into a Dingo when resources are low. And dogs have a whole rahge of vocalizations and body language designed by nature to get them what they want without having to fight for it. It wouldn't have went from calm and submissive one moment to attempting to kill Clem the next. Its the equivalent of going from 0 to 60 MPH in your car, without ever hitting any of the numbers in between.

Now had the dog first tried to 'claim' the food by growling, raising its hackles, showing teeth, ect...basically telling Clem to back off, and then bit her when she failed to take the hint..that might be a bit more realistic. And a warning bite (which still might require stiches) would be more likely than attempting to kill.

I never much liked Ben, and he was certainly a detriment to the group, but I will admit I felt somewhat bad when he died.

He did literally ask for it though.

True but he dies so pathetically that I can't help but feel bad.

I was expecting him to die from the fall, honestly. I guess it was a short belltower.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

But the poor little thing was suffering, it had to be done. :(

So instead she should walk right back into biting distance to slit the dogs throat?

The dog was preoccupied with the ****ing pikes sticking out its legs to bite you, 'twas the least you could do. I could never blame the dog for that, it's in his nature.

@Han

We have no idea how long it's been there, perhaps it's gone days without food and was naturally agressive to begin with. We don't know enough about Sam to make conclusions.

Still, you do have a good point. I just enjoyed how it placed you into one 'cliche' and totally surprised you with that. I thought telltale was going to actually give us a dog companion that we'd come to love.

I have to agree with this. I thought the whole hurr I am a dog! into BAAAAAH I'M A WEREWOLF!!! change was really strange for a dog.

It's actually not strange at all given the circumstances. Dogs can very often act calm one minute and aggressive the next (with regards to other dogs or people) what people don't often realize is that there are things that set this off, hunger is one thing, Clemantine being effectively a stranger is another. If he had met her previously on a number of occasions he'd be less disposed to agression but she is effectively someone who has litterally just entered his territory and while, even if it was for an instant,  trying to prevent him from getting food. What you learn when training dogs is that they very much live in the moment and getting them to behave is a matter of repetition so they actually remember who to listen to and how to behave.

I can also give you one real life example of something similar happening. I have this friend, she own a big masstive mix named Otis. Otis is a lovable lumax who's generally on good terms with everyone he meets and just wants them to pet him, however one of her accaintances one thought it be a good idea to try and mess with Otis and tried to grab a bone from Otis's mouth while Otis was eating. Otis knew this guy but the guy still ended up getting bit when he tried to take the bone away because Otis doesn't recognize him the alpha of his pack.

I disagree, as I stated before - take it out of the elements it was raised up in and when it comes down to its needs, like the food scene - it won't hesitate. Which is what happened. So, I agree with Grey as a whole.

My cat once swiped me and drew blood when I took away a piece of food from her. Animals and even us can change drastically when it comes to food.

And it's not even the food. Take away the exterior influences of family, a warm house, whatever else - it will eventually go back to it's roots of survival first. It is no different from humans, it's just we're viewing this from an outside perspective, obviously - so it's easier to pick out what could or couldn't of happened.

There is even the whole aspect of energy that animals feed off of, in a sense - we don't know what that dog felt or what it has been through, even though it is obvious that Clem is giving good energy off to the dog and trying to make it aware that she means no harm, the instinct triggered the dog first, sadly - and hey - I'm not saying the dog is at no fault, but there are aspects on both sides and I personally don't see it as a bad execution because of the way it got me to react.

Just because an animal's in pain doesn't mean it won't attack you for attempting to help it. **** HUMANS will attack you for attempting to help them at times. I'm supposed to think more of a dog? One that already tried to rip Clem's throat out? Yes there are stories of dogs attempting to attack someone only trying to help it when it has a serious injury. And no Clem owes that dog nothing not even a merciful death. The dog put itself first when it attacked her over some beans so Clem has every reason to put herself first while defending herself and stay out of range of the dog and waste no time in trying to get that bite treated.

As you said dogs don't think like people it wouldn't necessarily see Clem's actions as doing it a favor.

Really how dare someone not want to go towards the vicious animal that just attempted to kill them how dare they. :mellow:
