Like I've said to Rah, I'm a massive Kenny fan but if it comes to it I will kill him to put him out of his misery. He is 100% broken, he has lost pretty much everything, he was beaten to death, his eye is screwed. He was already degrading when we saw him in ep2 but now? He's gone. It's sad to see this great character fall but I also like it. It's well written even if it tugs at my heartstrings. If I have to kill Kenny it will be out of mercy, not hate. Unlike some of you guys

 

Now Luke? He can go burn in a fire. Every episode he does something that does damage, he is now officially Ben 2.0 no more ifs, ands or buts. Hell I don't even think Ben would have pulled that crap.

Mike and Jane where nice surprises. Thought they would just be worthless red shirts with no purpose but that one part in ep3. Was really glad they turned out to be characters instead of plot devices.

I wonder if Jane was actually foreshadowing, and Clementine going at it alone will actually be a potential ending.

 

I think I'd actually prefer that.

It can't be an ending that's too open that it'd be hard to make a sequel of.  If that's an option, it means everyone else dies, and you simply get the choice to decide if you want to look for a new group or go it alone.

I guess Telltale figured the Luke/Kenny choice was too obvious. Probably why both of them became unlikeable assholes as of late.

Did give Sarah the chance to come with me and i did give her a shot at life but she was unable to take it and i'm never going to risk Clementine or people around me that have a use for a situation like that. Still sucks that she got munched but it was going to happen at some point.

As expected Kenny is going down the path of madness in about the speed that i imagined he would and while i still find him likeable and useful that will end at some point and by then i hope Clem have something really going for her since i'm not in a million years ever going to trust Luke.

Didn't have much against the dude before this episode but now? What the heck Luke! It's harsh times and all but really? Well hope it was the best damn time of your life since you put everyone in danger just to get some you incompetent fool. Ugh you had your chance and blew it. I'm really running out of options on what people to trust, especially after my favorite character leaving. Totally understand Jane and appreciate the tips and tricks for sure. At this point Mike seems my choice to go if i have to go with someone at all. Bonny is an option but i want her to prove a bit more that she won't get Clem killed. In any case going alone is getting more attractive by the second..

Rebcca.. giving brith and surviving seemed very unlikely from the start and once she started to turn i acted on instinct when the "walker" light flashed in my head. Now it was the second after clicking that i realised that shooting at all in that situation would make a volatile situation spiral out of hand and.. well i'll know if it really did that in a some weeks!

Holy hell was that emotionally draining. I'm copy an earlier post of mine since I don't feel like typing all this again.

I think the best way to go about this is to generally sum up my thoughts on specific characters and compare them between the two runs I did. So let's start with Sarita.

 

She's basically the reason I started the second file, given I chopped off her hand in the first one and wanted to see how the dynamic played out if I picked the other option, starting with the main one, her reaction to me removing her hand surprised me a bit. I expected her to flip out a bit but I could have sworn she nodded at me in the previous episode to keep chopping at her hand and now she seemed to be pretty pissed at my decision. Granted all she said was "you....you" so that might just be my interpretation, but her facial expression certainly seems like she's not pleased with Clem in the leased at that moment. Having to put a hatchet through her head made me feel like complete sh*t, but I will stick by the decision as I still think cutting the hand off is better than doing nothing and letting her just waste away, and if she wouldn't have gotten bit again she might have just made it. I also can't help but feel it's a bit poetic to have Kenny flip out on Clem in response to his loved one getting salt licked so to speak. As to the other option it doesn't really change anything aside from Kenny's initially reaction to Clem killing Sarita. She doesn't get more dialogue Kenny's just sort of change a few of his lines and the little talk in the tent seems to work a bit better if you let Sarita turn. For those who don't know Kenny finishes her off screen and says that she asked him to kill her before she turned but he waited. So I guess the only plus side to letting her turn is that her passing is a lot less traumatic for Clem and probably slightly for Sarita.

 

Kenny, hoo boy. No matter what you do with Sarita during the escape, when you meet up with him again at the memorial he'll still treat Clem like crap. Like it's her fault Sarita got bit or something. As I mentioned to only real difference in his dynamic towards Clem or anyone else is the initial reaction during the escape other then that he's still spiraling down his own personal black hole. At this point he seems to have lost any will to survive as he's once again lost everyone who depended on him. At the same time though he seems to be coming full circle when he realizes the baby's still relying on him. The kid will end up being either his salvation or damnation, as he'll either become obsessed with protecting it or us it a motivation to push himself once more past the breaking point. Kenny's character arc as always remains interesting and he's very much on the knifes edge as a human being at the moment.

 

Luke has finally had his first round of screw ups. Screwing around with Jane quite literally and putting the group at risk, though in this case I doubt the situation would have turned out much better even if the group had advanced warning, Rebecca's screaming during labor likely would have gotten their attention anyways so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. Not too thrilled about him and Kenny still butting heads either, especially after resent circumstance. Luke's still largely self aware enough to admit when he screwed up and even be concerned about being almost willing to leave Sarah behind, but he seems to be reaching his breaking point. Part of the reason he hooked up with Jane was because he was on the emotional edge after the escape. Now think about his original crew back in episode 1. Not a single person other then him and Clem have survived, and he seemed to have been in a leadership position with that group so that's likely weighing pretty hard on his mind. He trusted Jane and she left him, he doesn't really like or trust Kenny, he's still a bit stand offish with Mike and I'm not really sure what his thoughts on Bonnie are. Clem and the baby seem to be all he has left and he'll likely blame Kenny's decision to move for Rebecca's death. Whoever ends up surviving the shoot out I'm guessing Luke and Kenny will be among them, and I'm guessing they'll be at very heavy disagreement about what's best for the baby if not what drives the group apart (they've been hinting that this group is falling apart all season, I'm guessing it'll finally happen next episode for whatever's left of it).

 

Not much to say about Rebecca, she was basically what she has been the last few episodes which is basically the pregnant lady, don't think her dying at the end would have change even if the group opted to stay at the observation deck, as Mike said she wasn't in great shape, and Frankly at this point I was to emotionally drained to be shaken up over it. Nick also seems to continue the TellTale tradition off killing off characters who might have died before except in his case it was done off screen without much consequence or impact, I mean it is sad to loose a member of the group who was trying to help the others but with everything else involving Sarita, Sarah and everyone else it's almost like he just fades away. A bit disappointing he didn't even get a chance to stand out much past his initially screw ups. Not even sure what it was that killed him, guess he bled out from the gun shot.

 

I have to talk about Sarah and Jane in tandem because of just how well these two characters played off each other. On one hand you have Jane, tough but afraid to even begin to try to care about someone again, on the other you have Sarah, just generally afraid of everything. Jane had a very well done big sister dynamic, she came of as practical without coming off as completely cold or sociopathic, which isn't always easy to do. You can understand why she prefers to be alone even when she does clearly care about Clem, incidentally getting her to try and save Sarah even when it goes against her usual judgement and is hands down my favorite part of the entire episode, because it shows just how emotionally conflicted Jane is. She wants very much to help and is very capable but at the same time she doesn't want to go through the pain of loosing anyone she cares about again. Sarah is still very much still the student to Clem's mentor figure, she seemed to have reached her breaking point but to me it also appeared like she was working to overcome it. While she did initially shut down at the end she chose to keep going despite everything and it's tragic that circumstances seemed to have gone against her. In the trailer we saw her basically resigned to be left behind, under the deck she was fighting for her life up until the end, she chose not to follow in the Jaime's footstep. Sarah's death was gut wrenching. They're basically polar opposites, Jane is someone who is very reliable but she's emotionally guarded and refuses to try and work past her issues opting to run away instead, while Sarah is someone who isn't reliable but when pushes tries her to get past her issues for her friends.

 

Mike and Bonnie seem to be this seasons Omid and Christa, I'm sensing a bit of chemistry between the two. I really liked these two this episode, a Mike's badass but you can still bust his chops over ignoring your advise if you go to the museum before the observation deck. (Clem did tell him to go for the knee). Bonnie is still beating herself up over the whole Carver incident, which I guess is only natural given what it eventually lead to. On the plus side we finally get people to start thinking more about sending Clem into every small opening you find. Bonnie feels really bad about sending you in, or if you refuse realizes that yeah it could be dangerous and gets attacked by the walker herself. I'm expecting some repercussions from that next episode.

 

Arvo I was a little confuse since I had him show up and say I stole from him even though I didn't take his meds. At first I thought it was a dialogue bug but on the second play through I realized that Jane did take his gun, so I guess that's what he's pissed about. The Russian group doesn't strike me as particularly bad people as Arvo hesitated to shoot Clem initially and didn't seem to want to entirely go through with their plans of ambush once they heard about the baby. I wish we had a translation for the Russian so I could get a better beat on them, I can understand the language to a certain degree but they were talking way too fast for me to pick up on it. Still I'm guessing once the shooting happened we're well past the point of no return with them. Things could still be interesting Arvo doesn't strike me as a terrible person just yet.

 

So the big question, is Clem alright? No she ain't alright Luke. Her dead half eaten friend is still under the floorboards bellow you. And that's just the most recent thing that happened today.

 

There were some nice points that kept the emotional abuse from being too much though, as much as I don't like babies in this sort of story setting that moment when they made you think it was stillborn, (cause sure let's just add turd on top of this crappy day) made me sigh in relief when it turned out not to be the case (at least something happened that wasn't horrible today). That and the raccoon family, if it wasn't for those furry bastards I'd be a depressed mess right now.

 

So yeah main run, rundown:

-Tried to talk things out with Kenny got chewed out.

-Called Kenny a Jerk

-Killed zombie Nick, Saved Sarah again(Clem had to slap a b*tch)

-Reminded Kenny the baby needs him

-Bonded with Jane, didn't rob Arvo

-Told Luke Kenny was starting to loose it.

-Comforted Sarah

-Bonded with Mike and Bonnie

-Went into the booth

-Got Jane to try and save Sarah

-Told Jane goodbye

-Clem ain't alright right now, but I'm hoping she will be

-Told Kenny and Luke they were both jerks.

-Sided with Kenny's decision to leave, but had to tell them again to quite arguing

-Didn't shoot Rebecca, as I didn't want a sudden shot to set off a shoot out.

Even if it was a punch to the gut it was a pretty good episode.

I think the main difference is just the nature of how the two plot lines run.

Season one didn't have a sense of urgency because there wasn't anyone chasing you initially, wasn't until the end that it came into play. You could sit around your various safe houses or locations for that episode and take time to figure out whatever challenge you came across usually. Here you start of on the road and basically continue that through out the entire episodes, it needs to flow faster otherwise you have a bunch of people standing in the middle of the road not getting anywhere.

I just miss the pacing of Season 1. Everything's been breakneck and, more importantly, rushed this Season, in my opinion.

Season 2 is doing a different outline, it's pacing can' bet he same as season 1. Grey listed why, if season 2 did the same pacing as season 1, it would in fact do more damage. Now I do wish we could interact more with the characters but that's a different issue.

That "You think just because you're a kid you can get people killed and nobody will care" probably cut even deeper than Kenny intended, seeing as it was potentially established in episode 1 that Clem feels like she's to blame for both Lee and Omid's deaths as well.
