What I liked

Spoiler

-Jane's character. She's is equal parts good and bad. Ruthless and caring.
-Mike's development. They really fleshed out Mike's character and he seems a genuinely likable guy. I hope he survives.

-The birth scene. The baby was adorable. It really got the emotions right

-Rebecca's death at the end. I found it quite powerful, having just learned to like her. I shot her, btw.

 

What I didn't like

-Nick's death. His character deserved more development, and was really wasted potential.
-Sarah's death. Same as Nick
-Arvo. Nothing wrong with him per se, but it was fairly obvious he would be working with a gang.

 

Predictions about the ending

Sadly, I think Mike will be killed off. I think Clem, Kenny, Bonnie and Luke and the Baby survive the shootout. The two Russian thugs will be killed and Arvo and the girl will survive.

What's with Telltale's obsession with likeable characters leaving to be lone wolves? Jane... Jane why did you left?? You were the best person for Clem to stick around with, teaching her important things and all that. I had Lee flashbacks, cries.

 

Kenny.... ah this guy changed so so much. Poor guy, I agree with House. He has nothing to rely on anymore, he lost everything and sacrificing his life for the team or Clem would be fitting tbh.

 

And the Jane/Luke situation turned me off so much    But i guess I like Jane way too much to forgive her and as for Luke, wouldn't care less. I kind of liked him when he was with Clem but now... bleh. In that scene where Jane and Sarah were in danger, i panicked and went to save Jane instead but later found out that Sarah dies no matter what.... bummer. But considering her mental issues, no matter how Clem tries to make her strong, she still stays the same, Jane was right. :/

 

I couldn't believe Rebecca died... but I didn't shot her, screamed zombie and Kenny shot her instead. Sigh.

 

Methinks Clem and the baby will be the survivors. And Jane. Pls. She's too good to die and would be a good friend/mentor for Clem.

Given the recent time jump in the comics, they have room to make Clem about 14 ish, I think.

One thing I don't like is regardless of what you do, the person you save will just die later anyway, so no point in saving them. Once they die, you know that they're not gonna make it till the end.

I torn about whether I think Kenny's going to die at the end of this season or Telltale will continue to use him as fate's punching bag. I don't dislike Jane, but I seriously don't want Clementine ending up with her. The whole Luke thing soured my opinion of her and I get the impression she would abandon Clem eventually. Luke... He worked through my last shred of patience, screw Luke.

I want to help Kenny however I can, but really I'm really torn between wanting Clem to head off on her own or go with Bonnie and Mike. They're the nicest, SANEST, and amongst the most capable people left.

As much as I like Clementine, I hope we get a new protagonist for Season 3, someone that has nothing to do with Lee or Clem. Maybe a random survivor that runs into the survivors of Season 2. Hopefully an adult. Plus longer episodes and more puzzle-ish moments.

 

With that said, I really liked episode four.

I saw Nick's death coming from a mile away, since he had already died in alternate timelines. Sarah's death made me flinch and Rebecca... oh man. That got me in the feels. Jane and Luke having their "moment" caught me off-guard, and Kenny is now broken beyond repair. I still don't like Bonnie, but I don't dislike her either. Mike is now Lee 2.0 so he better not get the boot.

 

As for predictions for episode five.

Someone is definitely going to die during the shoot-out and sadly, I think it's going to be either Mike, Bonnie, or Kenny. Arvo will probably survive, since who knows why. If Kenny doesn't get shot then he'll most likely get killed later on in the episode. For some reason I feel like Luke is going to be sticking around and Jane will show up again. Telltale pulling another Molly on us is too predictable. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Clem dies, but she probably won't. They might run into Christa again, that or her rotting corpse.

 

One thing that really irks me though is the lack of 400 Days characters and the fact that my least favorite one is getting a major spotlight.

Just finished Episode 4. Damn! It all kicked off in this one.

I kind of figured things would be bad in this episode, ramping up to the finale, but I didn't expect as much as this. Great stuff overall.

 

I already liked Jane, but her and Mike were the standout characters in this episode for me. Loved that she taught Clem stuff and didn't just whine until Clem got things done like some other people we could talk about. I'm also kind of glad she walked away, because even if she doesn't come back she won't be the cannon fodder in the shootout at the end. I do get the sinking feeling that Mike might not make it out of that, which is going to suuuccck because then it's back to Bonnie (who I don't hate, but sort of just tolerate), Kenny (who is totally going Death-Seeker and is one tragedy away from snapping and turning on someone, and I don't want it to be Clem in the firing line), and Luke (the idiot who abandons his post to get laid, repeatedly ditches the group even if he does come back, and spends the rest of the time trying to score points against Kenny in the who does Clem respect game).

I robbed Arvo, I ain't even sorry. A sick sister, my arse. If that was his sister at the end she looked really 'sickly' aiming that 9mm at Bonnie. I didn't have Clem back down either once those fools ambushed us. Regardless of what happens, Tiny Tim and his Russian mafia drug-running friends are entering a world of pain.

 

I saved Sarah at the mobile home, slapped her and got her out of there, but I knew her time was up. When the deck collapsed I didn't hesitate to help Jane. It seemed likely that if I tried to save Sarah then, it would have just resulted in both their deaths. Thems the breaks.

In TWD-land, you don't need to be or have been linked to organized crime to do scum-things such as waylaying and looting, do you.

 

Since we did not get to know a whole lot of Arvo's crew's story I'd hope TellTale doesn't just write them off as such one-note villains. That a coherent group of Russians would manage to survive and stick together through all that zombie-ordeal on the East Coast of all places has me somewhat puzzled...I profess to not know too much of the region's detailed ethnic make-up, but are there any hubs there currently where a sizable Russian minority reside? I know I can point to such corners here in my German neighbourhood, just curious what it's like beyond the Atlantic.

Arvo I was a little confuse since I had him show up and say I stole from him even though I didn't take his meds. At first I thought it was a dialogue bug but on the second play through I realized that Jane did take his gun, so I guess that's what he's pissed about. The Russian group doesn't strike me as particularly bad people as Arvo hesitated to shoot Clem initially and didn't seem to want to entirely go through with their plans of ambush once they heard about the baby. I wish we had a translation for the Russian so I could get a better beat on them, I can understand the language to a certain degree but they were talking way too fast for me to pick up on it. Still I'm guessing once the shooting happened we're well past the point of no return with them. Things could still be interesting Arvo doesn't strike me as a terrible person just yet.

So yeah main run, rundown:

-Tried to talk things out with Kenny got chewed out.

-Called Kenny a Jerk

-Killed zombie Nick, Saved Sarah again(Clem had to slap a b*tch)

-Reminded Kenny the baby needs him

-Bonded with Jane, didn't rob Arvo

-Told Luke Kenny was starting to loose it.

-Comforted Sarah

-Bonded with Mike and Bonnie

-Went into the booth

-Got Jane to try and save Sarah

-Told Jane goodbye

-Clem ain't alright right now, but I'm hoping she will be

-Told Kenny and Luke they were both jerks.

-Sided with Kenny's decision to leave, but had to tell them again to quite arguing

-Didn't shoot Rebecca, as I didn't want a sudden shot to set off a shoot out.

Even if it was a punch to the gut it was a pretty good episode.

I didn't rob him either, seeing how it's Clementine who speaks up against doing that back in season 1, episode 2. Besides, having limped around on crutches until a few days ago, now without, Arvo's got sympathy-points with me, and my respect for having made it in the TWD-setting despite that.

 

I won't condemn Arvo's crew just yet. In fact, if next episode ends up with Clem and others being dragged along and forced to cooperate with them, I'd appreciate that. Language-barrier wasn't used that well in TWD yet, could use another try.

That was my line of thinking as well. Clem spoke up against taking from others and my Lee listened so it didn't make much sense for Clem to start robbing people in my case.

The plot has no idea where it's going, most characters are one-note until they're offed in a scene that's done for shock factor rather than emotion and any choice variation is less impactful than it's ever been, TWD's first season had more "impactful" decisions with things like Ben influencing the Kenny scenes drastically or how people from the group reacted to you.

 

I was disappointed when Kenny being furious at me happened to both sides of the Sarita choice, Sarah dies 15m after you save her, Arvo calls you a thief regardless, Nick dies with one line of dialogue from EP2 to EP4, etc. No matter how much you distrust the cabin group, claim you're going to ditch them or whatever, you're forced to be their best friend and they all love you and everything plays out the same because choo choo, all aboard the railroad!
 

I'd love to have an ounce of the emotion that I had while playing TWD s1.

But let's face it, the leader of that group looked rather like the typical fictional representation of a Russian gangster with all the tattoos and Arvo's clearly hiding a large stash of drugs from the group. I just don't see most of these characters getting some deep development given we've got only one episode left. Apart from possibly Arvo since he's named and the potential sister since the camera focused on her a bit I don't see them being much more than a roadblock between Clem and the town they're heading to. I doubt they're getting as much development as Carver or even his main henchman.

Can we really say with certainty what type of drugs was in the bag at this point, whether it was narcotic drugs or medical ones? We have no clear idea why Arvo was limping around by himself there, whether it was a ploy to scout out other survivors, he got separated from his crew and picked those up on the way or what have you. Nor do we even know that Arvo's three countrymen are the entirety of that crew.

 

TellTale did pull off some characterisation about Carver's gang in mostly one episode*, and my hope is that they do not go down the clichéd route with this troop, as I expressed.

 

*come to think of it, with the firepower they pack against the herd, I would not be too surprised if that was not the last we saw of them. Maybe they'll still reappear?
