The fact that the demo area is extremely bland looking is not a good thing. This is no different then 13s tunnel adventures.

I decided it wasn't worth the trouble of carrying this thread since no one seems to care. I just post over on the SE forums anymore about XV.
Haven't had the chance to watch the demo. Was thinking about waiting until I could get direct feed and download a high quality version, but maybe I'll watch it.
Eh I care I thought about posting that video. I just want to play the thing though already I mean "trailer" and "FFXV" is kind of meaningless to me at this point when it's changed so much over the years.

It's changed a lot and at the same time it hasn't, it's more that they've solidified what they were planning. Tabata has said he sat down with Nomura and kind of ironed out Nomura's vision for the game. And a lot of what we're seeing is either stuff we were promised but never saw or simply stuff that wasn't talked about. There's very little that's been said by Nomura that's been confirmed to not be in the game.
The one big thing is controlling party members in combat. Maybe Stella. Maybe Noctis' cell phone. Maybe airships, though from what I can tell they're trying to put that in.

It's literally the opposite complaint. People didn't hate XIII because it looked bland (which it definitely did not, outside of a view places like the Pulse-themed areas on Cocoon), they hated it because it was a "hallway simulator."
If by "bland" you meant "nothing to do" you might have a point, but we don't know what they have planned so far in optional content.

Um I know that? Why do you think I wrote tunnel adventures? The fact is here in Final Boyband we have these huge areas to apparently fix the tunnel galore issue 13 had, but so far the places shown and the demo look bland, lifeless and simply uninteresting. That's what I meant. You just can't go ok people didn't like how 13 was just a tunnel 90% so lets make bigger areas and more exploring, but lets not fix the other key issues!
Because the tunnels where not the only issue.

Alright, NVM, I didn't understand your comment at first.
In one of the previous trailers they showed a couple of people playing poker, it's possible you'll be able to do that. And did you watch the whole thing? I have not, but I heard that the Behemoth hunt is very detailed.

Unless you understand Japanese the context of the demo is poor. I thought they were just killing random monsters, showing off the lack of consequence for poor play and camping.

That's the impression I'm getting. Visually, the areas are bigger, but content-wise? They're the same, and at least the corridors of FF13 had interesting backdrops if you bothered to look at them.

The graphics look stunning, although I'm not too hyped up on FFXV all that much, I'm more excited for KH3.
I do hope the terminologies are explained better in this though, I always find the Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos just too confusing. D:

I realized actually what my concern about XV is which is simply that it might feel too similar to the XIII trilogy. It's got the same kind of look and feel which in one sense is ok if you like XIII but FF has always been interesting because of how it develops in different directions. There's been kind of like 3-4-5 versions of the same Nomura/Kitase thing such as VIII, X, XIII.
XIV on the other hand is/was really different, XII was pretty different, IX was pretty different. I guess it would be interesting to see if they can change things outside of the action gameplay so it doesn't feel like a KH version of XIII.
That's a lot of Roman Numerals...

The first final fantasy game i will be playing is Type-O HD when it comes out and this one looks great. I will probably pre order it soon so i can get the demo to this game. If it's true that it will have a massive open world than it sounds nearly perfect for me. The music already sounds great too.

I don't know. I'm losing patience with SE. It's shocking how the comany(ies) that once represented the leading edge of video RPGdom have now lagged so far behind the times. Graphics of course are still amazing every time, but it seems like everything else has degenerated. Where we once got amazing stories and character development (despite the occasional horrendous translation error), we now get stories and settings that come across so garbled it makes everything going on in Evangelion easy to follow. As rpgs trend to the open and sandbox, SE seems to be becoming even more linear (which would be fine if presented well, but see previous point).
I think of what could be if they could break out of this mold and actually adapt, and it makes me very sad to think what possibilities we're missing out on. Can you imagine how awesome a setting like VI or VII would be with a large open region to explore, a customizable protagonist, a simple but powerful and appealing story and robust crafting? It could be the Steampunk to CDPRs long-awaited Cyberpunk game. Can you imagine your character, custom-designed and appearing in SE graphics, starting off in some little town like Kalm, finding a group of thugs like the Turks harrassing the townsfolk, taking some basic materials and crafting a Nail Bat and then going limit break on their a$$es? It would be glorious!

^ I'm not sure I'd enjoy that, as a main participant of the numbered FF series. The name of "Final Fantasy" has always been a commitment to an excellently constructed narrative, and a focus on the characters within that narrative; to have a customisable protagonist would deviate from that formula in a way I'm not comfortable with. They'd have to limit the depth and scope of their story-telling ambitions in order to allow for all of the potential options.
Think about The Elder Scrolls. Skyrim's main plot was shallow and the protagonist non-existent as a person. Hell, even think about Dragon Age, a game series that's lauded (rightly so) for its writing - the plot of Origins was "kill the big evil zombie dragon", and that was it, with no ambiguity or twists. Even the choices you did make in the game ostensibly had no effect, because you never actually saw the outcomes of them, aside from one differing cutscene at the end of the quest strand and an alternative set of allies in the finale. That's nothing compared to the issues raised and tackled by the protagonists of FFX, which had the simplistic beginning idea of "kill the big evil zombie leviathan", and then quickly progressed into a story about corrupt religion, about friendship and forgiveness, about inevitability and death, about sacrifice and, above all, about hope.
Can that really be done with a customisable protagonist? A protagonist that is, by necessity, a faceless entity with an undefined character and a disengaged position in the world?

I find pretty much everything about Square to be overstated. It's not as if earlier FFs weren't pretty linear, and as Voragoras was saying it's not as if larger worlds don't also frequently mean boring and faceless. Comparing something like Daggerfall to the likes of FFIV or something would have yielded a pretty much identical comparison to that between something like XIII and Skyrim.
I don't think we're missing out on anything honestly, if anything, most companies could stand to learn from Square. Also, for people who suggest they have no credibility in less linear games they've obviously never played XIV (either 1.0 or ARR) or.XI for that matter.
In fact, it's ironic to consider that many gamers were unhappy with XIV originally despite being a larger, more seamless world. It was only when it was narrowed down and made much more strict and limited, with an emphasis on endgame raiding that western gamers (who supposedly idolize Skyrim, etc) were able to accept it.
Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls series was fortunate to have Ken Rolston churning out interesting ideas and worlds for them at one point, without that, I doubt Skyrim would of ever become the success it did, open world or not. No game company right now outside of maybe CPDR or possibly Bioware intermittently is even capable of filling the blank space in any game that I've come across, and without that none of them really stand a chance in the long term IMHO...

The Battle System's really cool, each playable characters has a different way of playing them. The Summon system sucks though and is completely useless, I won't spoil anything regarding the story, but overall is okay imo.

Sounds good. What sold me was that when i first heard about FF XV i decided to check out the other games and came across this one releasing soon. People said it had combat more similar to Kingdom Hearts and that it was really mature for a FF game tough since i never actually played any idk what that means lol.

Yupyup, Type 0's battle system is alot like Kingdom Hearts, its not turn based. As for storyline, I have to say its quite confusing especially if you're new to the whole Fabula Nova Crystallis mythos. Seriously you're gonna end up mixing terminologies, and often have to consult the codex to gain a better understanding. I know I did ![]()
I haven't played FFX, but I did play FFX-2, which I think is pretty good (although I think many would disagree with me on this. YMMV tbh)
Battles are turn based/active time battle depending on your setting. And basically the characters have that sailor moon thing going on. But storywise I think its pretty good, again your YMMV.
This is your first time playing an FF game? Cool. I'd recommend playing FF6,7,9, imo the best FF games in the series. That is if you can bear the outdate graphics. ![]()

Lol good thing i don't mind reading codexs. I was considering just reading story synopsis of the all the FF games i know i won't play like the really early ones so i could get a better idea of the lore and such. The ones you mentioned are all on steam i'm pretty sure or at least 7 is which i always heard good things about. I will probably pick them up during a big sale like the summer one. I also have PS now streaming subscription which as Final Fantasy XIII but i was told to avoid it.
