Well she's on the "bad guys" side of the trailer so presumably she's an enemy.
Hopefully not one as shallow and one-dimensional as the more recent enemies. I'd hate to have a design like that ruined by shoddy writing.

Wait, are you trying to tell me that Caius was shallow and one-dimensional? That the Fal'Cie were shallow and one-dimensional?
Who was shallow and one-dimensional? Sephiroth, sure. Kefka, sure. Ultimecia, sure. The random humanoids that the "four heroes of light" fight, sure.
You might have your timeline mixed up

I'm still miffed that it's no longer Versus, I mean obviously it became XV because SE had no plans for an actual XV or XVI so they went Versus XIII as their go-to. Still I hope all of the years of waiting (almost a decade) is worth it at least for Square's sake otherwise they might suffer a repeat of losses like XII.

They definitely do have plans for a XVI. But Versus had such a troubled development, and quite frankly it had been so long since both a mainline title and a title that the public was genuinely excited about, they ramped this one up to be XV for that purpose.
Why would you want it to still be versus? You don't feel the action combat is befitting a mainline title or something? not sure what your logic is there.

I want to know, for purely shallow reasons.
You want to get smexy with the cool dark hair lady?

Oy jeez, no need to drag other FFs into this. Besides saying Zeromus or Necron were the bosses of their respective FFs is slightly mischaracterizing them IMO... FF4 was basically about Golbez, ix was about Kuja and various other parties (Brahne, etc), 8 mostly revolved around Edea..
..not to mention I thought Kefka, Sephiroth, and one of those random humanoids like Palamecia were pretty interesting...
..and besides I'm pretty sure Voragoras did mean the recent ones. The worst offender IMO is one you didn't mention which was Sin which is just like whatever your a giant killer kraken.

As to the Versus thing see in the original trailer he was summong like 50 swords and weapons and stuff.. now it's like he just has the one and it just doesn't seem as epic and crazy I guess.
They still have the whole family warfare thing going on though it's clear some of that still remains.

Well, it all sounds so base when you put it that way. That is, the correct way. I can't resist green eyes and an intense smoulder.

I thought Sin as a boss was pretty one-dimensional, but how it related to the Final Summon gave it an interesting dimension that I thought was quite tactfully integrated into the narrative. Also made the ending sadder, when Tidus hi-fived his old man.
But yeah, the Cocoon Fal'Cie were pretty one-note Disney villains. They're evil, just because! Ooohhh, look over there, Jihl is doing evil things again.

I'm on mobile so no multiple quotes, but...
The original trailer had the swords spinning around noct but he only used one. We still have the spinning swords its just a high power ability. And we can switch swords mid combat.
Take a look at the E3 2013 gameplay video or the gameplay demo from after TGS for evidence that we actually have an in-game version of that spinning swords thing.
The Fal'Cie definitely were not evil. The game doesn't spell it out in cutscenes well but they wanted the Maker to return and that was why they did what they did. Mass slaughter to open Etros gate, which btw worked at the end of xiii-2.
Jihl wasn't a Fal'Cie. I agree she was poorly done. However, take a look at Rosch for a human villain well-done.

Whoever's playing is a scrub. I'd like to be optimistic and say it's that easy to go into critical mode in like 20 seconds but I doubt it. So yeah, whoever is playing is a scrub.

By the XVI comment I meant that they haven't officially confirmed or denied its existence or development, like last I checked they released a statement that they were tossing around ideas but that's about it --- not even an official domain has been registered yet. I'm sure we will eventually get an FFXVI be it another MMO, or a handheld depending on how well Versus/XV does (which I am sure is the reason for SE's silence regarding XVI).
EDIT: I tried finding the article/interview where it said it but upon googling/searching for "Final Fantasy XVI" all I get back are results for the MMO XIV, so yea...
I was disappointed to see Versus mutate into XV because it seems probable that the backdrop and lore surrounding it (Eidolons, Etro/Eyes of Etro, etc) were things taken from XIII and it seems like Sqaure wants to put that fiasco trilogy behind them by putting as much distance between the former Versus and XIII. It also seemed like a cheap go-to, like even if the original narrative and lore from XIII remained intact I don't see any reason why it couldn't have continued on as Versus besides the idea that because apparently XIII wasn't the next FFVII and didn't sell so well that they want to remove any or all connections to it from Versus-now-XV.

I know why they did what they did, and it's a very shallow motivation of "kill everyone to bring back a God!". Why did they want to do that? Where is their agency? They're doing evil things, but it's never explored to any depth beyond a vague "idk god".
I also know Jihl wasn't a Fal'Cie; she was an example I used to show that every single villain in FF13 was an irredeemably bad person. She existed only to be ominous and evil.

I found the spinning swords, seems all right. I kind of wish I could of just played Type 0, then I would know what to expect for XV better..

From what I've heard XVI will be a return to medieval times. I don't think it's far along though.
With Versus it wasn't just the fact that XIII "failed," which is funny since XIII is seemingly the fourth best selling (http://vgsales.wikia...uare-Enix_games), it was the fact that it's been so long since a numbered release. That was back in 2009, and all they've done since then have been spin-offs (Type-0, Agito) or sequels. They needed a numbered title.

The game tells you why. Barthandelus tells you why. You should play it again.
They did it because humans began warring with one another. Initially, the Maker created human and Fal'Cie, brothers. But the Maker left and humans began to war with another and turned the world(s) into a h*llhole. The Fal'Cie believed that the Maker would set things right.
Edit, from Chapter 10:
"Cid: The entity responsible for creating both humans and fal’Cie. Long ago, the Maker departed the world, leaving the two races behind. In a sense, human and fal'Cie are brothers--orphaned by the same parent. As for the humans, they forgot the order imposed by the Maker. They began to war among themselves for the first time in history. The fal'Cie focused on recalling their lost deity, and returning the world to its former glory. This purpose lies in the heart of all their actions. Calling back the Maker requires a fitting sacrifice."
He Barthandelus (and Orphan, in their combined form) also state their agency: they don't have it. They can't kill humans, the Maker didn't give them that ability. The only power they have is the ability to make humans L'Cie.
"Have you ever paused to consider our reason for making l'Cie of men? We fal'Cie are crafted for a single purpose and granted finite power to that end. With men it is not so. Men dream, aspire, and through indomitable force of will achieve the impossible. Your power is beyond measure."
Some of that is from the datalog, but you can easily get the gist from the cutscenes.
Jihl is literally the only villain in XIII who is "irredeemably evil."

They aren't going to play too much the same. For XV:
You have four basic actions: Attack, Block, then the last two are some mix of the weapon special attack, Warp, and magic. With Attack you can either hold the button or button-mash, to make combos. With Block you can hold to keep blocking, just dodging attacks. This costs MP (so does magic and Warps, and maybe weapon combos). With certain attacks you can also block at exactly the right moment to parry and counter-attack. Not too sure about the special attack, or the magic yet.
Additionally, there's a sort of gambit system for attacks and combos and parries. You can choose which sword you start off an attack with, and then which one you switch to for the combos, and also which one for combos. I say swords, but it's more; there's also stuff like lances (there's apparently a video or magazine scan where Noctis is doing a Dragoon "Jump").
Additionally, if you run out of MP, you fall into a "stasis mode" where you basically can't do much of anything (I don't know too much about it), so you want to avoid that. If you hide behind cover, or warp to a high location, your MP regenerates quickly.
Speaking of warping, you can do that, and also warp to enemies from up high or from across the battlefield.

Hm, well that was an interesting and detailed response, neat-O.
I'm kind of curious about the aesthetic dimension though also, since type-0 I think was kind of billed as a serious themed FF similar to versus-13. It's got a lot of schoolgirls running around with chainsaws flavor to it though based on what I saw...

Yeah Type-0 definitely has a serious story. It's the first FF game with a Mature rating, I think. But all of the fighters ARE students, so that's why they seem like that.
Though combat seems very game-y, in comparison to other FFs (including XV IMO).

Cool, I just went over the wiki and at least the original type 0 was rated M. My biggest problem is really that it's exclusive to PS4 when it was a freaking PSP game.
I really wish Japanese games just always came west... I want to play them! lol..

I just meant that if the original type 0 came west it would of been easy to just get it for PSP, a brand new PS4 is pretty expensive just to get for 1 or 2 games.. plus theres other stuff like Phantasy Star Nova that's just never coming west.
Ah, you mean you didn't want it on a console. I see. Well they did do some kind of remaster, with improved textures and gameplay and such. Though I understand, I've heard a lot about people wanting the game on Vita or such.

Always heard good stuff about FF music got to experience for the first time it was pretty legit.
