I hope there's no MP at all. If I have to pay for it then that just means I won't even try MP, which I don't care that much anyway.

I doubt you'll be paying for it. The current MP business model is to make money from microtransactions. That's why EA is so hot for MP; it's a new revenue stream for them.

I own an Xbox and have for a while and have not once paid for xbox live. I don't play multiplayer so it does not matter which one I choose since I won't pay for either online component. I will change to a PS4 though when I buy a new system because I don't want to have to be connected to the internet at all times or have my console "check-in" every 24 hrs. If a game requires multiplayer then I don't play it. I am a single player gamer and always will be.

Edit:  I don't care if a game includes multiplayer, as long as the single player does not suffer because of it.

Its a small price to pay for consumer rights and respect. Besides, PS4 will have cross-game chat which is a great thing and worth the $50 a year alone.

I know its natural for some people to nit-pick. Get so much good news but only focus on the one little caveat, but come on.

It will not kill the online community. I'm willing to bet even most of the complainers will sub. Its a good value, we're talking less then the price of a new game once a year, for a lot more then just the multiplayer. In fact, its an even better value then it is on xbox, which is still a good value itself. Well, it was until they decided they are gonna treat us all like rats.

It's really weird to post pessimism about PS4's multiplayer future at a time when Sony and PlayStation are getting more love and support from gamers than they have in years, and quite possibly ever. After Sony promised to support used game sales and not require internet connections the reaction's basically been that they can do no wrong. The announcement that they're charging for multiplayer wasn't even a blip on the radar.

Also, you don't have to pay 50$/year. It's 5$/month.

you do know that alot of people bought the ps3 because of free online gaming right? In short, one of the major reiasons people abandoned the xbox 360 for a ps3 was because of free online gaming. If this happens...some people may ending up buying xbox 360 instead of the ps3. And the n those particular set of people that bought a playstation console because of free online gaming would likely stop buying games that a major component to them is online gaming. In short, gaming may revert back to how it was between 1995 and 2002 at this rate.

What average person would be willing to pay $60+ for a game then pay around $50 for multiplayer gaming then to add insult to injury then pay a monthly subscription to play certain games like elder scrolls online or killzone 4 or even a new crysis game.

The psn community is going to shrink very badly. Imagine going online with a new game release only to find out most people did not buy that game because its is mainly multiplayer based??

If price is really the #1 issue, the PS4 would still probably end up being cheaper because it has a lower initial cost (which more than makes up for a yearly subscription) and you can buy games used.
