@eluvianix: I have it on good authority that Cullen finds blood magic gross.

You fiend! Well, in all seriousness, if Cullen was a romanceable character, and you chose blood mage as a specialization, that would be a magnificent character arc, in my opinion.

@Rebel Wolf: Interesting how you don't care that Cullen was tortured.
So - torture is okay.
Rape means destroy the Chantry and kill all Templars.
Got it.
Yes,an abusive system should be abolished.

If it's a war about the mage rights the mages will lose, period. Whether it's from blowing up a symbol of good will and humanitarianism like the chantry is to most of thedas, or in trying to force everyone to accept them at the point of a staff, the will of thedas will turn against them and see them as any society sees a group of violent people who homogenously preach about their struggle while destroying people and places they hold dear.
As criminals and villains to be fought against tooth or nail. As people who would kill you and your family simply for not having magic. As beings who are different and dangerous, and relish in destroying innocent people.
Mages lost the war the minute they turned against the chantry, they validated all the horrors of the templars and chantry in the eyes of the average thedasian. And believe me, when the will of the people is lost to your cause, all you're doing is buying time until your efforts are proven to be in vain and you crumble into the sands of histroy as the evil group of people who deserved to be killed.
Do you realize that mages also have sympathizers (This also includes templars like Evangeline) thats willing to fight with them in this war? They're far more mage sympathizers than their are in those who are sympathing for the templars. If these sympathizers were willing to aid in the escape of mages in DA2 they would do far more other things like providing shelter/food,etc, and for the love of the Maker I cannot see the mages killing someone or their families because their not mages. Where do you get this information from? Are you making stuffs up again?
No mages did not lose the war the very minute they turned against the Chantry. It was the Chantry that failed their mages, and that is why the Divine aided in their escape which than caused Lord Seeker Lambert to declared the Nevarran Accord to be null and void, and no longer part of the Chantry.
The ones who turned against the Chantry were the Seekers and the templars, not the mages.
Let's not forget that we now have templars and seekers about to go into serious Lyrium withdrawl, and with red templars turning into giant size monsters we can truly see which party poses a greater risk.

People sympathize with the mages because they feel sorry for the mages and think if people just gave them a chance they'd be able to live peacefully. And if all the mages decide to do is force everyone to obey their set forth ideology or be burnt alive in a fireball, then no one will believe them about their cause being anything other then a attempt to make every nation like tevinter.
That attitude of everyone who doesn't agree with mages are evil and deserve to die needs to stop if there is going to be even a chance of mages getting any sort of equality or freedom, and not end up worse then the seerabas.

Everyone else has to work.
And nobody gets shelter, food and clothing handed to them.
So - naked, starving and homeless. Congratulations - you're free. Good luck finding time to study magic.
Note: Those Circle buildings belong to the Chantry.

Farmer, blacksmith, military, or merchant. Take your pick, and when I say take your pick, I mean pick military since the rest could have bad consequences to the economy.

And as for all mages wanting to live normal lives...no. The fact that tevinter exists the way it does, with the policies it has, and the outlook and ideology it preaches, shows that not all mages want to live normal lives. Some want to live as kings, with their magic as their sword, ruling with an iron fist.

And thats when the raiding/pillaging usually starts. When a bunch of people with power don't have what is needed to help sustain them.
Doesn't matter if they're mages, templars, knights, or just well armed malitias, when the need arises, shortcuts get taken.

Rule #1 of business, you don't take from your own supply.
Also rule # 1 of being in the book business, you get hired as a worker, not as a reader.

Sure, he's probably seen a map of whatever country his Circle was in - but he's never been out of his tower.
Mages are laughably ill equipped to be productive citizens.

Well good luck with that, since either A. Just because you MIGHT have time to read, doesn't mean others do. and B. I'm not exactly sure how widespread literacy is.

I hope there aren't too many mages falling into that profession. Lest you have to lower your prices to a copper.

My amell warden has been out of the tower for long enought to get how things work.

Even a bodyguard.
