Wait, who's the guy with the soul patch in Raijin's picture?

His Warden, who is not an apostate by the way.

Well, Anders is a Grey Warden and still considered an apostate wanted by the Chantry, so it's hardly beyond possibility.

Anders is recruited specifically because Grey Wardens can't be apostates or legally hunted by the Chantry. Second, Anders is not a Grey Warden anymore.

Well our warden can leave them as well in origins and tell that he have no desire to be warden few times until awakening where still you can tell that it is only temporarily.

Such choices will no doubt be ignored for what BioWare wants. It wouldn't be the first time.

Grey Warden mages are technically apostates, according to the developers. According to the Chantry, any mage outside the Circle is breaking "the commandments of the Maker", but Grey Warden mages are given a reprieve from templars due to their status within the order.

Apostates are mages who are illegally outside of the Circle. A Grey Warden does not fit this criteria. Wynne was not apostate, per her words, and she left and came as she pleased. It's all about the situation and the flexibility.

The developers have said Grey Warden mages are technically apostates. I'll leave it at that.

As Asunder points out, Wynne had freedom no one else had.

I can't dispute this, but I'm just saying something else is said elsewhere. Image IPB

Never said she didn't. It's all about the situation, as I said.

That is indeed questionable. Anders was still being hounded at by the templars, and he was a Grey warden. Our mage warden goes missing... The chantry could see it as an apostate offense.

I support mages because I think Malcolm Hawke is a badass, especially because of his heavy Hawke voice.

In the name of the Maker, so let it be."

It saddens me to see that Malcolm Hawke wasn't a major character in DA2. I'm sad that we never got to meet with this man.

I know right! Just reading the codex entry of this guy and the ones for his items gives you a hint of all the adventures he had.

I would LOVE to play a special DA series where you actually play as Malcolm Hawke. Your first appearance would be inside Kirkwalls Circle and are given quests to complete. It would be his story that you will have to play.

I haven't read the book, but I think she had more freeom than anyone else because of her status of being a senior Enchanter. She was one step of becoming First Enchanter had she not refused the offer.

That would be awesome! Malcolm seems like the totally kick-a** mage out there. Mercenary, part-time grey warden without the joining, ran off from the nobles of Kirkwall with an illicit lover, manages to train his child(ren) on how to control their magic, was friends with a templar, not to mention all the codex entries that describe his adventures.

He sounds totally awesome and would be a great protagonist.

Nope the book clearly states she got them for her aid during the blight. This makes me somewhat wonder. if the current mage rebellion is caused by the 400 years of relative peace where the mages cannot gain any favors. if thats true the current system is really messed up because it relies on wars (and im talking about the serious stuff that is borderline a world war) to remain stable.

I can see the fanfiction of this story flowing right through my veins. It would make a great novel as well :)

Wynne is Archmage in Asunder, and her son, Rhys, points out that she has freedoms none of them have.

I think it's interesting that Fiona's role is basically what Wynne encourages a mage protagonist to do after meeting Aneirin - return to the Circle of Magi from the Wardens to help the mages as a leader.

Except Wynne isn't anti-Circle and actually encouraged a peaceful solution. I doubt that changed.

Fiona advocated autonomy for the Circles. If the mage protagonist says that the Circle is an "oppressive place", Wynne's retort is that The Warden can change that by returning to the Circle and becoming a leader; in the City of Amaranthine, Wynne cautions against the autonomy of the Circles because she says the Chantry would rather kill all the mages instead of seeing them free.

Wynne is one of those few mages who actually tries to find a peaceful solution. This is the very reason why I have so much respect for her.

On the other hand we have fools like Anders and Adrian who shatter what little peace was achieved simply because they deem it to be the only path to take.

Both my Warden and my Mage Hawke were like Wynne, who tried to keep the situation under control in their own way.

In my Warden's case(Human Noble), it wasn't hard to do so, Knight-Commander Greagoir was a fairly reasonable person. He let me handle the situation and listen to what I had to say at the end. Thank goodness Cullen wasn't in his place at that time.

My Mage Hawke tried a lot to as well, unfortunately betrayed his close friend, and failed. It was sad to see how many turned to Blood Magic and started summoning demons after I decided to try and save as many innocent mages I can. Hopefully, some like Alain at least survived at the end.

It's funny how I did the exact same thing Rhys did when Adrian betrayed him, and I didn't even read the book then. I let Anders live. Death would be too easy an escape for these bastards.

That "peace" you are talking about comes with the cost of a lot of abuses and taking many freedoms from mages. I personally think it's an pipe dream as long as the Chantry have any power over the mages. But if they are taken out of the picture along with the templars, then that's another story.
