Well done Sony. You played it subtle and answered people with ambiguous questions to get it to seem like you were the promised savior of gaming. As it turns out you are. I bet Sony will be having a right old laugh at the M$ devil as they pull in the millions. M$ dug their own grave as far as Xbox ****e is concerned. First the Xperia Z and now PS4. Sony is having a great year with its technology.

Its only going to win the Console war if it releases with games awesome enough to make people want to buy it immediately. If Microsoft beats them to the punch on that one then the rest wont matter. People will go where the games are.

That said, PS4 was the only one of the pair I was ever interested in.

I'm sorry, but I'm nowhere near as excited for the Wii U as I am for the PS4. That's just the reality of the situation.

Same here...if I am going to buy a next gen console the PS4 would have been it from the start.

Exclusives will be the way to attract buyers for sure although how that will effect things on the longer term remains to be seen....The economical situation is not as if people can buy without thought and spend that kind of money for the games only.

PS4 is still a weak PC in a box.

Though if I had to pick, I'd take it over Xbox One any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Point being that it's outdated before it even hits the stores.
And it's a console so you have very limited options with it.

For gaming/entertainment, PC is yet to be beaten. Actually, no console is even close as of now.

I might pick up PS4 since it's cheap, but I'd not consider it a primary gaming device in my house.

That the PS4 isn't actually the "savior of gaming" (which is rather absurd, really).

we've been gaming fine without it.

Look at you throwing around preferences as some sort of truth.

It's a fact, not a preference.

PC simply offers far more gaming options, that is indisputable.

As far as entertainment, PC has no peer. You can do virtually anything on a PC.

A fact is that PC has the most powerful hardware.

A preference is that you think it's the best gaming platform.

but this thread should probably actually be about Sony and the PS4 rather than people already counting the X1 out of the running or the PC gaming master race acting superior to everybody else.

It's not just hardware. It's also about the software.

Open vs. closed. One has far more options. Guess which one is PC.

I have nothing against the consoles, I just think it's silly to act like PC is not far ahead.

My only problem with the PS4 at this point is that online multiplayer isn't free like the PS3 is. At least the monthly price for Plus is cheap. Cheaper than 360's old $8-9 monthly price.

Another bullet in the foot for the PS4 is while it has better capability on paper, it also uses a great portion of that capability for social and video services. Its another entertianment box. Anyone that doesn't see that is fooling themselves.

The only true console or at least something close to it is the Nintendo Wii U and it was outdated at the start. Meh oh well got mah PC.

Well it is the saviour of console gaming for a lot of people. So people kinda do have a reason to be excited.

As an exclusive console gamer, what can a console do which a PC can't do better? I get the whole "ease of use" angle, since Playstation/Xbox are just plug in and play. But I'm not seeing what advantage they offer over a PC. Exclusives aren't an issue of hardware as much a gimmick to get people to buy a specific console. Graphics has always favored the PC, controllers can also be used in place of mouse and keyboard, and you can even find ways of playing from the comfort of a couch, depending on your set up.

Well, although I'm a PC player I can see that a console can be really fun, easy to take with you on trips, and as you said - PC *can* possibly be played from the comfort of a couch, but it's not designed around that.

Oh, and it's cheap. People who are constantly "up to date" on hardware are few and have the luxury of throwing heaps of cash out every year or so. Their gaming experience won't be times better than the cheap guy's too. Graphics are already too high of a fidelity if you'd ask me. And games be optimized to years old rigs just perfect.

edit: as to on-topic - yayz for Sony! Great way to go, and hopefully they'll win the console war many times over to make way for future better practices...

Sony surprised me yesterday. I suspected that they were silent because they had some sort of second-hand market solution too and thought hard how to sell it as a cool feature. Well done.

The region imbalances in service and offered games seem to remain and the title selection is pretty weak, so I suppose I will wait a couple of years for finest titles and then grab used copies.

I'm really happy that a majority of interesting titles is going to be released for multiple platforms.
