I am completely relieved and happy, along with excited, for PlayStation 4. I am going to support Sony bigtime.
I never owned a PlayStation in my life, having grown up with NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, Nintendo Game Cube, and a Game Boy in the early days. This generation I made the move to Xbox 360 in 2008, having got back bigtime into gaming after a long departure as I was in college and focused and cash strapped. I like my 360, although it never had any exclusives I like, but its good. Although I don't like the ads when i pay money for Xbox Live, and Kinect made me annoyed. I was annoyed when they focused on that and not games this gen. Still, all the multiplatforms I needed.
Being pumped for next gen, I sort of made myself a free agent. I eagerly anticipated Sony's reveal and watched. They came out, and said to me: hey, you. Core gamer. You are our focus. You are our central philosophy. We want to do everything we can to appeal to you, make things easy for devs to make games for you, give you a wide array of strong gaming features, and give you powerful console hardware to play it on. We are planning on creating a network that can get games from the past to you, too, but we will be open with you and tell you it will take time. We have a console of powerful, simplistic hardware by game creators, for game creators. Thanks for checking us out, and we will discuss more at e3.
The rumors surrounding MS got my attention, especially after Adam Orth. Then the pathetic reveal with the fake people with plastic smiles, all this crap I couldnt care less about, and the weaker specs. And then the drm. And then the always online. And then the spy camera.
Sony then talks to me again, and treats me as a gamer and focuses on me. They show me awesome games, says I am their focus, tells me they respect my rights as a consumer (and uphold the law), then gives me an offer I can't refuse and is very reasonable. Everything I want and more, along with respect, for a good price. And tons of perks at a better rate for online then I currently get.
Preorder. Very excited, and their marketing was no doubt aimed at me from the start. If they follow through, and devs seem pretty happy sofar from what I hear, its going to be a great next generation.
Can't wait to see more of The Order: 1886, as its steampunk with sweet weapons and I hear Santa Monica is good, and more from others down the road.
