I get the idea of leaving it as UNK, if you are trying to level up characters faster, and/or that you just don't really care and want a suprise, but knowing the enemy type can give a huge advantage.
From my experience pretty much everyone chooses an enemy for platinum, and nearly everyone doesn't for gold (and lower). As much as I like playing against the collectors on the PS3, running into them can be a pain, which is easy to avoid by picking a different faction. And isn't it easier to play against Cerb/Gold using a Shadow, than say a GE?
Why leave enemy type as UNK?

I prefer to chose enemy/map unless am levelling up. For example, I always struggle when I play Drell on Hazard Ghost... which is why I prefer to know what am getting into...

Variety, i'd assume.
Although on PS3, it's preferable to have it against a set enemy that's NOT Collectors (at least on Gold)

I always chose an enemy, If im using reave and we land on geth I lose out a permanant 40% DR .. no thanks, dont want to be a close range class against geth either or I'll be raging at the stunlock... its just common sense to choose an enemy.

More interesting not to know, and not to be able to optomize. I enter a game where someone has selected the Geth as the enemy, then taken a Kroguard, I leave.
If I can find it, I don't play anything but u/u

It keeps the games more unpredictable and interesting to have u/u . If I was on p s3 then I would def understand picking faction to avoid collector and game crashing . OR if you're grinding enemy challenges and need another 1000 husk points to complete reaper mastery . Otherwise why make it so boring ?

Games easy enough with preventing the possibility of Collector/Condor whilst playing a Fitnessless Novaguard Off-host on a half Mbps connection.

If the geth were not so cheap I would not have a problem with u/u/g. But they are broken and I still dont enjoy cussing at their cheap damn ai. I'd much prefer that they had sync kill units and less cheapness.
So I will not play against the geth except for the units they stick on platinum, and I always rocket primes when those mf show up.

My platinum and gold lobbies are always u/u. I like the element of surprise.
