To make it easier you can direct the PC guys to use a FREE software called Fraps. I am positive they all know about it as its what I also use to record my PC gameplay.

You can post it on the thread so that everyone has access to the link. Again its FREE and easy to use.

@d-nought: most people on pc who have been doing the challenges do record hopefully it doesn't really impede anyone interested in doing these.

The free version of FRAPS has limitations, one of them being not being able to record for longer than a set amount of time (it used to be 30 seconds back when I first tried it). So if you actually want to record a full game you do need to pay for the full version.

A free alternative without limitations is MSI Afterburner, though I have never used that.

For the record, the issue some PC players have isn't about software, but about their hardware not being able to keep a steady framerate while recording. For instance I have to lower my resolution from 1920*1080 to 1280*720 when recording in order to keep the game running at 60 fps. PC players with less powerful computers would struggle even at that resolution.

I have no issue recording and uploading my games, but you'd probably want to keep a separate tab where all posted times are listed, video or not.

Besides, it's not like this thread is about e-peen right (at least that's the way I see it)? This really shouldn't even matter.

Also some people with lower spec will have issues recording on PC due to getting lower FPS (I get about 55-59 while recording, some people with lesser specs might go down to about 20-30) and we all have heard enough of how much of a big deal frame rate is on PC.

Afterburner works fine unless you are very CPU limited. FRAPS is a harddisk bandwidth hog unless you record at low resolution. At least the version I have is since you can't compress on the fly.

I guess I have to go ahead and compress and upload it, here was the score screen btw.

@ Zjarcal. Thats cool about MSI Afterburner. Can you provide a link for everyone? I think I may try it as well. I use the paid version of FRAPS now as after testing out the free version a while back I liked it and just purchased the paid one but if MSI is better I'd love to try it.

Fraps is better for quality and MSI is better for performance.

If you don't mind recording at a slightly lower quality, which will not change much unless you encode at a very high bitrate, it's worth looking into.

I only installed it once but didn't really try it, however I know it's a good alternative.

I like MSI a lot better than Fraps. You'll get full HD quality for youtube and the file sizes will be a fraction of the size of Fraps. Unless you're planning on projecting your game vids on a 4k digital cinema 100 ft screen (which a Fraps vid wouldn't look great on anyway ), then there's no reason not use MSI. It doesn't lock frame rate (unless you want to), default recording format is avi, and barely a peep of a performance hit, unlike Fraps.

All of my youtube vids are with MSI except maybe the first few (were Fraps) - I've used different settings, but most of them are 1080p save for a few in 720p. That'll give you an idea of the quality you can get.

Well I was doing the Insanity thing, got the 5 waves survived medal from the first 5 waves, but the wave 10 escort through the middle of the map killed me, those ravagers are just stupidly deadly there.

Honestly don't think I will retry the Insanity one, I was at 36 minutes when I died (escort was almost done and I had two missiles so I could've cleaned up quickly and finished under 40), and granted I messed up the spawns terribly in wave 8 and 9, not to mention the 4 missiles I used for nuking were total wastesm never, even managed to get double banshee spawns or killstreaks for that matter (I think only 1 missile killed more than 3 enemies ), but ugh, that just wasn't very fun at all.

I will be doing the Hardcore one though.

I would also prefer MSI Afterburner over FRAPS btw, personally I use playclaw... But I can't really recommend it because it is commercial software and it is not really better than MSI Afterburner

 @zjarcal: Yes, that insanity challenge is fitting for the title. I just labored through it. Luckily completed it, but the time is a snail's pace. I don't think I could have gotten worse in the RNG though in my defence:

I got wave 3 devices, wave 6 hack, and wave 10 devices! Brutality. Better ops prob coulda saved me 10 mins since I used almost all 5 mins for the wave 10 devices. I also only had anAR II amp

This was my build + incendiary IV ammo. I tried something different and used a scope, which surprisingly helped me bridge the distance with the striker's increased accuracy.

Anyway, I'll upload the vid cause I'm just proud I got that done! I will definitely try the hardcore one, and hopefully shave 25 mins off my time

I use MSI for recording too. I don't have enough disk space to record everything with Fraps quality and I compress every video again anyways. It already takes me 2 hours to upload a vid on youtube and they look ok in my opinion. I think it's a good compromise between image quality and upload time.

Wow, impressive stuff capn, MaxShine, and Prestacious. A great challenge, and also a fairly frustrating one. Wish I had the ability to record, but a crap PC (and the price of a capture card) stands in my way.

I got husklocked, then grenaded by a Cannibal with about 50 seconds left on extraction. Final time was going to be 41-ish. I think I need to take a break from this before I do something I'll regret.

Man, being that close is painful! That's a quick time too! I tried to render the video overnight but there was an error so it'll be delayed. 

@kouzrah: your vids are great quality. 2 hrs isn't bad, mine typically take 5 hrs to render and 5 to upload to YouTube.

Re-did Justicar run because I only tried it once. I improved 10 minutes, but was doing really well and left myself 1 rocket for Wave 10. Of course I got Targets, downgraded to Brutes after my 1 rocket then the rest of the wave took forever.

@ kocka007: Nice job! That's a significant time improvement. I'll update the HoF now I tried this week's challenge a few times with the typhoon (what a difference), I got devices every time. every time. I feel your pain.

So, I have decided to modify the vid requirement. I will still accept screenshots for both pc and console completions. The only time I will require video for either/both, is when anyone is trying to go for a top time. The top 3 times for each challenge need vids as of now. (All others are encouraged to make vids to share your gameplay though). I hope people think that is a fair compromise that doesn't exclude people from participating but also keeps the top of the leader board transparent. I'll modify the OP with this rule.

Thanks for the rule change. Umm.. still need to try this challenge :s I don't want it to be my first game of the day, but then I never play more than 1 or 2 games these days. I will get on it soon though
