This is supposed to be one of the easier challenges out there, but it was challenging enough for me!

 

For a long time I just couldn't get the upper hand with the hunters and other creepy sneaky stuff in mid-waves (something to do with the map, didn't have any trouble with them on White). So finally I switched AC for GS. That got me through, though even so it took some doing, and oh, how I longed for those extra missiles! On this last attempt, I got mobbed by phantoms and banshees on wave 8 and spent my last wave-10-cleanup missile (along with most my remaining eatables), which added at least 4-5 min to an otherwise good game. 

 

But it's done!

Hey, it's just me with my semiannual rant about Derperus generally and N7.1 particularly.

My last two week attempts contained:

- getting downed by puny troopers because of rushing to a grab during the first 2 waves
- getting shieldgated by puny troopers and finished by an even punier nemesis
- ragemissiling a lonely nemesis TechnoTurianStyle for dancing around and dodging even lolhitscan overload
- never getting a killstreak with missiles because I'm a derp at nuking (exclusum will approve)
- eventually surviving 5 waves in a row to get sync killed in wave 6
- eventually surviving 5 waves in a row and even extract but only having 4 golden and 1 silver medal because not enough tech kills

yesterday highlights:

- having a great run with W3 pizza, 5WS, already 4 golden medals and getting an undoable W6 device in the upper lab surrounded by turrets and camped by funtoms
- having a decent run getting W3 targets and refraining from nuking, getting it done, getting W6 targets - ragequit
- having a fast run including all required medals and even extracting - but dying every 3 waves

No, I'm not demotivated - far from it! I never killed so many derperus units like the last few days (not enough guardians, though).
I will have a break for this week, but will go for it next week again.

How many attempts did you need for this challenge?
Which kind of ammo did you use? I tried incendiary first, which helped getting fire explosions on flipping phantoms. But I was under the impression to get to many ammo kills from DOT. Yesterday I used drill rounds which was not bad either. You can kill enemies in the upper lab easily from the lz through the windows. Did someone try disruptor for constant tech bursts?

I struggled a lot on this, i think i went 6 in drone too and Drill rounds cause lol bubble phantom. But i dont really remember.

The gain from rank 4 and 5 of passive is quite low if you check the values, so maybe u could go 66644 or 66635 to mix it up.

 

I checked my captures and had numerous fails (the nice one where u lack only one thing) over one month. I ended up with the same 66653. Not sure if ap rounds or drill

Finally got around not dying during extrac on N7 I... I m pretty sure I am unable to get the 10 WS on this one. Later waves of cerb on glacier are full of surprise a nightmare.

With all my attempts i think i found a nice equilibrium between power/hurricane and fitness/drone (build). No need to wait for powers on some kills to get the tech kills gold medal. Fitness was definitly not helping as much as a full drone for crowd control (thx TNS for the tip). Drill ammo were also important for dealing with phantom bubble.

Few of my other runs were going around 30' (1, 2, 3, 4), but grabs absolutely refused to kick in today, and i messed wave 9 so much. Objective was friendly on W10 but i had to use my last missile too fast. Exctraction was a pain as usual  .

 

I was getting used to fails before this one, and they were not painfull. But there, they were really frustrating, cause cerb or else  . Let s see if London Geths are worse  !

I'm sure I had more that 30 attempts with this one, it was probably the most frustrating of all the N7 challenges. Every time I did everything right, I'd get devices or targets on W10. Which isn't to say my scrubbery didn't play a significant role!

 

I had full fitness, 4 in drone and 4 in passives. Don't think the drone needs more than that, it's the explosion evolution that does the crowd control, and a bit more shields and firepower don't make much difference. If you can play without fitness, better put the points into passives. At least I would.

 

I used AP ammo. Tried drill, but AP just worked better for me for some reason, probably the added damage. Wouldn't put detonable ammo if I were you, disruptors will override your power priming so every TB you make will be level 1, whereas with overload and incinerate you get a level 6 (though half as often so maybe it does pay, but I doubt it since you'd have to sacrifice some weapon damage and/or piercing for it).

 

Don't take risks for killstreaks. When a double atlas or some other good opportunity presents itself, use the missiles, sure, but don't waste ops and gels trying to nuke spawns. Just not worth it on gold.

 

And you don't have to go for grabs right in the beginning. Grab nemeses at the end of first couple waves, or leftover engineers on later waves. Safety first, it'll save you countless repetitions.

I dont agree, level 6 drone get full attention from mooks, especially phantom, far better and faster. (level 5 shock for phantom, and 6 to crowd control the rest)

I tested all drones, 3->6, and was surviving more with 6 in drones and 3 in fitness, than with 4 in drones and 5/6 in fitness.

Also 10% additive damage is never worse 6 points IMO. Evo 5b is up to debate i guess, especially if the 20 HS are not easy to get.

That was my build for it.

 

Level 4 Drone for me is not enough, I want the stagger and the attention grabbing from Shock (I can't recall if lvl 4 Drone staggers Atlas, but lvl 5 surely does). On the other hand level 6 Chain Attack is a different attack pattern, meaning it alternates with Shock and it doesn't stagger, IIRC. So Drone up to Shock is optimal for me. That frees me to have 4 points in the passives for the best possible recharge time and 5 points in fitness for the increased shield-regen, which on the vanilla humans is almost as valuable as shields themselves.

 

p.s. Geth Scanner will serve you better than Survivor Loadout, of course, but I wanted the added challenge for the Gold version of this. Generally, GS, GC or AC are the best options, depending on kit/map/enemy.

I haven't done this challenge (have solo'd plat VS Cerberus with the HE though), but I think that the Shock evo is mandatory, or at least extremely useful to increase the Drone's crowd control ability. I would rather skip Alliance training than not taking it.

 

I like the build above but I'm wondering if taking full fitness instead of 4b of Alliance training wouldn't be better for that particular challenge... As for the ammo, I would avoid disruptor to not get level 7 combos instead of level 12. Incendiary rounds sound as an interesting option to me, as they don't prime on shields and can give you direct fire explosions VS Dragoons.

 

A last remark to increase again the confusion foster your reflection : if Phantoms are a big pain in the ass (I guess they are with a Hurricane), you can possibly one-hit destroy their barrier with an Overload if you equip a power magnifier on your weapon and take all the possible boosts to power damage in your build. But of course, you have then to give up one of the other mod...

AP Ammo 4 + Heat Sink is very effective against gold Atlases, I think it brings them from full armor to almost zero without reload. I will consider tech priming ammo for the Platinum version, but I may just stick again with AP, especially considering that I'll probably be using the GS for that one. Also, Shock Drone is hilariously effective against Atlases, it bring their advance speed to almost zero.

 

I suppose dropping 4b in Alliance for full Fitness would be better for this challenge, given that Hurrdurr weighs nothings, but this is one of my 2 titular builds and I guess I couldn't be bothered to respec.

 

Phantoms are often destroyed by TBs/FEs, especially if you manage to bunch them up with other units (and target those other units), which is common on Glacier, plus there's the drone trollback. I found Heat Sink to be useful here as well, since shooting at them triggers their flip animation and they don't shoot at me while my powers are on cooldown (and heat Sink lets you keep it up longer without the need to relaod). You just got to learn the proper timings when dealing with phantoms - how to trigger their different stances and which powers are appropriate for which stance. Especially given that when soloing the whole on-host DR bullshit applies.

This is what I used. I used TBs and FEs off a nearby atlas to damage phantom. No need to bother with their flipping DR nonsense this way. Overload once or twice to remove its shields, and use incinerate when it flips. Overload again for FE. Rinse and repeat. It'll take a while for it to die but atleast you don't have to deal with the DR garbage.

Always keep a drone nearby which will occasionally stagger it, allowing you to deal full damage. I relied a lot on the combos detonated by the drone. Because of the stagger, drone explosion will deal full damage most of the time.

I'm going to try something like this. Should be capable of stripping phantoms barriers in one shot, has a shocking drone and good armor mitigation. Does not steal kills with ammo and has next to no fitness.  

Compared to my previous build I loose the headshot damage and some piercing distance.

After 20 days of break due to lack of motivation i am back.I decided to try some asari challenge and after one conversation with x3lander i decided to redo for milion time chooser of the slain.I wanted to sub 40 and after some unlucky rounds with bad objectives i finally went sub.
