I know it would be almost derelict not to release it on those systems for financial reasons. But by the time da3 comes out we will be a year into the new console generation, and I had hoped we could completely leave behind the design baggage of those near decades old systems.
I still believe some of the choices for DA2 were done because of the limitations of the consoles, like not being able to handle more than a handful of characters on screen with decent AI, so they chose to warp waves of them in instead.
the new consoles should be advanced enough to not need to bother with that kind of mechanic to the same degree for EVERY fight, the pc was never shackled to that degree, but the 7-8 year old consoles?
Please someone tell me my worries are unfounded. How can they get around designing the game mechanics (not the visuals - that's easier) to the lowest common demoninator?
Anyone else wish DA3 was NOT coming out for ps3/xbox360?

DA2's limitations had to do with its engine and basic design; it was a modified version of the DA:O engine, which rarely has a lot of enemies on screen. In the few cases where there are a lot of bad guys, they don't behave very intelligently.
Yes, consoles have limitations, but so do PCs. PC limitations are just much more varied.

Wave combat wasn't related to the console limitations. It was designed to be that way; they just didn't have enough time for a credible implementation (hence, men raining down from above).
You can dislike the mechanic, and you can certainly dislike the way they chose to incorporate it into the game, but it really is unrelated to which platforms they chose to support as far as I'm aware.
Mike has talked about working on the combat to keep it paced similar to DA2 but having it be more "tactical" (whatever that means), and they definitely won't be teleporting in from space anymore.

I cannot say your worries are unfounded, but they always have the option to cut stuff from the game such as animations or graphical quality to make the game run on the older consoles. An example I read around here recently is they removed the cloth animation on the consoles when they were moving to consoles as well.
The other thing to keep in mind if Dice designed this engine to be backwards compatible for the 360 for their games as well and I think it would be just as demanding for their games as Dragon Age. With Mass Effect 3 they did trim things out of the game to make sure the game worked on the consoles, but did remove it from the PC version at the same time. It could be different here, the core gameplay could be the same, but extra little things might just be removed from the game for the older consoles.

I'll be made crazy if XBox gets a one up on the rest of us by getting the game a whole month or two early but other than that I say let folks play how they want.

I would prefer to have the option of choosing between this gen and next gen as I still haven't come to a decision on when (or if) I'll buy the PS4 and/or Xbox One. I like to wait a bit after consoles are released so that I can find out if there are any problems with the system (such as when I waited on the 360 and everyone told me about the red ring of death that people got at launch). I also might wait for a price drop on the next consoles, depending on whether or not there are any games I want (I pretty much only play RPGs now, and there are not a whole lot of quality ones out there like Bio and CDP games)

uh no. Not everybody has 400 or 500 dollars to shell out on new systems.

Right. I don't have 400 or 500 dollars to buy the Xbox 360, so they should release DAI on the original Xbox as well.Angrywolves wrote...

I agree but with all this time, they have a chance to make the next-gen actually have more to it & current be a more simple version of DA:I.

Actually I wish it wasn't coming out for PS4 or XBOX One. I believe that the biggest reason we aren't going to see this game before Fall 2014 is because of those new consoles. Just look at how many Big games are being released this year. The pickins are slim folks. Seems like all the game companies are holding back their big games just for those new consoles. Too bad- I'm stickin to my PC.

Given the couple of years that it was known the new gen consoles were coming and you cant put 400-500 dollars aside in that time then you need to work on your budget.
That is if its so very important that you have the new gen from the get go.

Yea.. this, im gonna wait until the price drops then get a ps3 (probably) a year after it comes out, so any game that comes out for the current gen consoles is great for me.

I'm glad it's coming out on the Xbox 360 that is really the only game I'm looking forward to next year I haven't seen any games that warrants a PS4 as of yet.

Also, I'm about to go to college, aka become the poorest I've ever been ever, also the busiest, so I don't have enough time nor money to invest in next gen consoles. DA:I and AC4 are really the only new games I'll be playing for a while, and I'm so happy I don't need next gen for either of them.

That would be commercial suicide. Console install base take years to reach a point where they can fully replace their previous generation predecessors. With the high cost of game development these days and the lack of backward compatibility in the Playstation 4 and the XBox One, it's just not viable.

I can careless about it. But keep in mind that not everyone can afford a new console right away. So many will still have to stick with their old system, while they still want to play DA:I. It's just like when PS3 first came out, many still released games for both PS2 and PS 3. It took several years to completely move on to new system.

Even year into the new consoles alot of people will still own a 360 and PS3. I know I will , not releasing it on both is a bad idea.

uh DA2 was limited because it had a very very short dev cycle and it was not top of the line anyways. look at the engine and the graphics compare to other games

yes because people have a ton of extra money to save. look I am waiting 2 or 3 years because I don't want to pay a ton of money for something that they will likely make a better version of in two or three years (example xbox 360 which red ringed alot and then the 360 elite) also I would like to wait and see if there are any bugs. when you are worried about losing your job and such you aren't gonna drop $500 even if you saved itaddiction21 wrote...

I find it hard wishing that some people would not be a able to play the game.
I get your point though, but they should be able to release it on all platforms, without sacrificing one for the other.

It would be best if it stayed away from the current gen limitations..but I guess there's nothing we can do about that.
The only thing I'm concerned about is whether the PC version is on par with the next gen version of the game or we get stuck with the current gen version because EA or Bioware don't want to put work into a nice PC version.
