Is there any way to do so?  The combat roll to the sides is what I dislike most about dodging since it feels slow and unhelpful at times.

What is it that you want to change exactly? Combat roll is the best of the dodges.

Probably replacing it with the side hop would require making a patch / mod.

Yeah, I actually did some frame by frame testing with combat roll vs side leap and combat roll is about the same speed, but you can cancel out of it faster (you can fire a weapon or a power while you're still on the ground) and it lowers your hitbox to boot. The only benefit of leap AFAICT is that you can leap again sooner, whereas there seems to be a slight cooldown on the roll.

The basic human dodge is quite good. I think you'd have to step up to the biotic dodges to get a real improvement over it.

Asari figureskater is pretty decent, but it drops shields and is bugged so It can break shieldgate with enough use, IIRC. :)

The teleport dodges shouldn't be in the game at all.

Teleport dodges feel gimmicky and are even sometimes difficult to control. I hate accidentally teleporting through a wall just to get mowed down by Cerberus turrets when my intention is to simply dodge an enemy melee attack.

It'd be interesting to see how Shepard dodges with the Combat Leap or the Asari's version.
