Can't believe he hasn't been answered yet. The mage side needs another "orderly" supporter. I don't want the mage-templar war to be a flat, symbolic struggle between good and bad, or order and chaos, or religion and freedom, or something equally allegorical. I want to see mage versus templar period, no symbols.

Also more generally, I'm very much for the idea of returning companions. Complaints against returning companions largely have these five reasons:
[1] They don't have the right personality based on your particular play-through in the previous game.
[2] They died in the previous game.
[3] They changed a lot; perhaps out of character. (No previous choices can account for the change)
[4] Their lore was inconsistent.
[5] You hated him.
Re: Have placeholders.
[1] If Fenris was rivaled but the reaver is supposed to be calm, then you get a different reaver. And so on.
[2] If Anders died, you get a different healer.
[3] Any individual can be complex and have different or even contradictory facets. Can work if done well.
[4] If Merril was romanced and disappears with Hawke, you get a different blood mage.
[5] Last time I checked, diversity was a selling point of BW games.
