Not that I begrudge there being less morally upright companions, of course. Variety is the spice of life.
Not going to be more specific than that, I'm OK to see what's going to be served up.
edit: One other thing - I like there to be a decent number of companions with real ties to the place where the game is set.

I just want a ruthless female assassin companion. There should always be one in every tale, no matter what it's about!!
So far we didn't get even one though.

I think Sandal, Flemeth, Dog, a renegade Saarebas, an elf that doesn't spend the entire game wallowing in self-pity (but isn't Zevran or Tallis either), and Oghren would be a pretty tight squad.
Impossible. Sandal and Flemeth can't be in the party together, since they're actually the same person.

I generally like exploring completely inhuman characters. After all, any companion character is more or less predictable. I like something surprising.
Shale in origins was way too humane btw, although I've enjoyed the character.

Character wise, I would want companion from all backgrounds and races (dwarf, elf, qunari, human). I really enjoyed my companions banters in DA:O, where their different belief, values and social background caused them to disagreed with each others. Also please no more moody emo freak. For Maker's sake, I don't want my companions to whine my ears off like in DA 2. Even serious ass like Sten was a whole lot more funner to have in party than most of companions in DA 2 (only Varric and Isabela are fun to have around. The rest.... *face palm*). All the killing is dark enough, I want someone to lighten the mood, not adding to it.

I know, and it's broken my heart
I think Tallis is the closest we've gotten, but she was too cutesy and not ruthless enough. I basically want Elektra to be one of my companions.

2. Feynriel/Tevinter Magister
3. Tal-vashoth
Really I just want Cole. I think he's the most interesting character we've seen by far. I have so many questions about him and I'd love to see some of them answered. Bonus if he's a love interest.
I'd prefer all new companions. I'd love cameos from the non love interests, but I'd rather have the focus be on new characters.

As for who else I'd like to see … we need a sword and shield guy, so I'll nominate Cullen. Not interested in romancing the guy, but there are plenty who are. Especially if they kicked him out of the Order for turning on Meredith.
Filling another mage slot … I'm somewhat ambivalent here, but Rhys from Asunder would be a good candidate. He's a healer and an expert in spirits, so I think he'd be pretty useful here. Or if not Rhys, then maybe Finn, as he's interested in history and ancient places.
If that survey was even halfway-accurate, I think that Sera would be a good companion as an archer or two-weapon rogue.
Filling the "animal companion" slot would be a tame ghast who could function as a fighter, spellcaster or ranged rogue, depending on your preference.
If neither Cullen nor that qunari fellow are filling warrior slots, I would suggest getting a former werewolf fighter. I envision a party member that spent years as a werewolf and still feels out of place amongst humans and elves. In combat, he functions essentially as a berserker, channeling that animal rage into combat.

But to be on-topic, I want a Darkspawn companion, however unlikely it might be, I'd still like to have one. He could wear specially-tuned enchantments on his armor or equipment that would minimize his spread of the Taint, wear identity-obscuring cloaks in civilization, just be cool. Talking to him would be interesting, if he was done right. And just to be cheesy, call him Lightspawn.

Companions:
A Grey Warden
A Tevinter Magister
A Seeker
A Templar
Leliana..
..and Varric.
And I think we'll get them all.

A pangender mage
A cisgendered male elf
A transethnic templar
A transabled qunari
All have to be romance options, of course.
