And what exactly did you expect from a teaser? A teaser leaves what exactly? Questions. Take whatever they say with a grain of salt and don't over expect much. This reveal did exactly what it was supposed to do, tease.
I'm saying people were expecting more than a teaser. What's hard to understand about that?

The individual walked, that is a form of gameplay.
That's completely nonsensical. No one was controlling anything. It was a pre-rendered trailer made in-engine. There was no gameplay.
No. It wasn't gameplay. It was pre-rendered using the Frostbite 3 engine. That's just what it was.

How is it Biowares fault you overhyped yourself? You where never told you where going to get a gameplay trailer or anything big, we just knew they where going to show something from DA3. They showed a teaser.

BioWare said the reveal was going to be "substantial" and "leave no room for questions." We didn't say that, the developers did. I'm tired of people blaming the fans every time BioWare screws up or lies.

So you should know what to expect from BW by now right?

The trailer did a good job of staking out the ground the plot will be occupying, which is the most significant element to me. I'm more concerned with story than what shiny new piece of graphics, gameplay mechanism etc is flavour of the month.
As for "leave no room for questions", well I can't imagine any circumstances in which that's even possible, or for that matter desirable. Do you think that would be a good thing?

They shoud lower their own expectations on what and what not to expect because then we end up with threads and complaints like this.

Seriously, BioWare fans complaining about BioWare fans has become the BSN's favorite pastime.

Evidently it did not work out as they (he) wanted it to at that point in time.
Once again, reading far too much promise into such statements than warranted.

Ah, yes, the "But they didn't cross their hearts and hope to die" argument. A BSN classic.

^Exactly. Overreading is the norm on BSN. Bioware never stated "artistic integrity" in the way a lot of people like to word it, but hey, why not?

Okay, seriously now. Once more for context and perspective. We read quotes like the following and that's what we knew before we were told about the change of plans:
David Gaider wrote...
When have we said "the game isn't even ready"?
We're not ready. When we do the reveal, we want it to both make a good impression and be complete enough that there's no room for speculation. Oh, sure, there'll always be some speculation among fans... but we'll be going for something less vague which doesn't cause more questions than it answers. I think our fan community, at this point, requires more than a teaser.
David Gaider wrote...
When it's at the stage we feel it's ready to show, then we'll be ready to show it.
You (or some people here, at any rate) seem to be taking us saying we're not ready to show it as in the game is at some early stage where we can't possibly get it ready by our planned release... whenever that is. Honestly, I'd just suggest you let us worry about that. When we reveal, there will be plenty of information.Since when is the point of trailers quashing speculation?
Teaser trailers just get people excited. I'd say our fanbase is at a point where they'd like to see something solid. I wouldn't say that everyone doesn't trust us, but possibly enough that it will take something concrete to alleviate the inevitable doomsayers who would run amuck saying how we couldn't possibly deliver on anything at all. At the very least, it might be nice to offer the more reasonable folks out there something with which to counter that.
Or that is, at any rate, my presumption. My knowledge of marketing plans is limited, if better than a fan's.
John Epler wrote...
As David said, we'll show something when we feel it's ready for primetime. There really is only one chance to make a first impression, and we want to make sure we can knock the socks off everyone.
Read into that as you will, we certainly can't stop you.

No, it's the, "He's just one guy out of a hundred who work for Bioware, let alone EA and has no say on marketing, so what he hopes they do and what ends up getting done isn't always the same," argument. A true and logical argument. Honestly, people beg him to say something about a topic and when he says anything, even when he says this is just my opinion or and idea, people treat it like gospel and then tear at him when he's wrong or not fully disclosing stuff... then go right back to begging him to say something and then get mad when he doesn't cause he's tired of getting his words twisted and stuff. I mean I'm not David Gaider so I can't speak for him about why he comes back here or why he doesn't, but that man is awesome, he puts up a lot of crap for what he loves and for us... the fans. Just my two-cent.

Again, there is a difference between we want and we will show. They wanted and believe that fans deserve more than a teaser, but until E3, I'm assuming all that could be shown is a teaser, until they are more comfortable with showcasing something that will give reassurance to fans.
That's how I see that wording and what was executed at E3.

It's a pragmatic argument. I can spend all my time whining and being stressed out because they broke their promise, gosh darnit! They said!!!BasilKarlo wrote...

Or I can realize it's not a promise unless it's a promise, and game developers across the industry outside of Molyneuax, are very sparse with their actual promises. It's a lot easier for everyone involved when you know how to take something with a grain of salt, which seems to be an underdeveloped skill on the BSN.

Yep. Timeline changed. Plans changed. Full reveal still to come-- or, I should amend, that's my current assumption. Perhaps I should simply say nothing, lest someone quote me six months from now or something.
