if they release DA3 in the fall of 2014 it will have to compete with the witcher 3 which in my opinion is not a good idea. bioware games have the best characters the only one that comes close is the witcher games and they are also similar in other ways so they will release DA3 at the same time as the witcher 3. in short these RPGs are very similar in the way they work and the people who love them. and unless I am mistaken they will have great replay value so it isn't like you just beat it once then stop which means if someone buys the witcher 3 they will likely not be done with it for at least a week and then they will likely buy a used copy of DA3 or wait even longer. it just seems stupid to go against the witcher  3 if they don't have to. they should release it in summer 2014 or winter 2014. what do you guys think

Are you ever happy about anything?

Why are so many people acting as if the Witcher is gods gift to man? I personally found it a fairly horrid game.

Oh, okay. It's not that I didn't like how it played...except for the first one; I'm unsure how I feel about the way the first one played...but I liked it less. I can't say I didn't enjoy the difficulty, but...I dunno. It doesn't feel like games I'm used to, you know? I can't explain it without listing my library of games and pointing out the differences between The Witcher and the library. I don't like the way it plays, and I dislike the story even more. I have a lot more gripes, but I'll keep those outta here.

Personally, I don't give a flaming crap about the Witcher. It's not like *everyone* will flock to the Witcher and be so engrossed in it that they will forget about DA:I.
People have different tastes, and I am sure that many people will end up getting both games.

Finally ! Thanks for saying that, I don't know why people tend to think that if you like DA you like the Witcher.

I despise Geralt, so I won't be picking up TW3. That being said, I'm sure that there's room for both games in the hearts of RPG fans (depending on their personal tastes). And on the whole, I think RPG fans have decent attention spans and won't forget about the existence of one game or the other - just look how everyone here constantly obsesses/argues over everything DA-related. :P

I hope Bioware take there time to make a beautiful game.
Heck I would wait three more years if it meant less bugs and a plot that rocks my mage robes off

Yeah, I think we're capable of handling two games at once :D  Finances might be an issue, though.  And personally, I found the Witcher and Dragon Age to be two rather different games.  The "RPG" genre is nebulous enough nowadays where games that call themselves RPGs can scratch different gaming itches.

Personally, I never liked the fixed main character of the Witcher. I need something with much more freedom in character definition for it to be my RPG purchase of the year. Even DA2 was (barely) enough.

Very much this. While I agree that TW is well written and contains compelling characters (though none that I am as 'fond' of as I am of classic Bioware characters), the two offer very different experiences and there is room for both. TW is a bit grimdark, solo play, preset male character with mostly predefined relationships/friendships - Dandelion, Zoltan, Triss, Yennefer etc (though there are exceptions such as Triss/Shani in TW1 and Roche/Iorveth in TW2). DA contains more moments of levity (no bad thing imo), party/companion based gameplay, and a more customisable character with more freedom to define our relationships (though again there are exceptions, such as the assumed Garrus bromance). For me, I prefer the type of experience offered by DA, so if I had to choose, it would be DA. Luckily for me, I don't. So both it is!

I also agree with those who say that the competition won't do either company any harm - any game raising the bar is a good thing, and can lead to a better standard overall.

This muchas veces.

I think newbie players(in their late teens and 20s) are so depraved for good RPGs that they pick The Witcher with a few things DAII or Mass Effect lacked--and I'm talking about WRPGs. JRPGs are mostly dead..out of ideas. But, truth be told, The Wticher sucks.

It is 120 Dollars a year away. That's nothing. I'll buy both.

Also I don't think they are going to be released in the same month. Witcher seems like it is going to be finished sooner. I mean da:I has already been pushed back an entire year...
Also this seems more like a Biower problem. Not a consumer problem.

the gameplay was bad. The story was good though. That scene with radovid and philipa was amazing.

Oh please. They're both great games but the fans they share are probably going to pick them both up anyway. Completely disregarding the fact that a sizeable chunk of people who like Dragon Age don't like The Witcher and vice-versa.

The way I see it, let them both release at the same time. It'll be a great shot in the arm for the genre/industry.

Am I the only one that was bored to death by the witcher? I couldn't even bring myself to complete more than 2-3hr of game. Maybe the thing women=sexy cards to collect angered me. Just a bit.

But I understand garrusfan1 worries: many people would rather buy the witcher than dragon age (it's unbelievable, I know), so if they come out in the same period... well, since we are in Bioware's forum I don't think that many hardcore TW fan will be answering.

I though i was a freak of nature for not been able to endure The Witcher more than once.
I'm happy to see that i'm not the only one that didnt quite like it.

Anyway, i dont see it being so much of a problem. Marketing alone might make DA overshadow TW (we are talking about EA here). Also, i cant see them releasing togethor since it will cripple the sales for both games.

Who the hell cares? You can buy both. It's not that big of an issue. I find these threads to be amusing. Gamers: "Games shouldn't be about teh money, but about teh games." *le five minutes lateh* "Games should be released in different quarters than their competitors for sales!"

Bioware should be wary of a game with better writing and beter characters since that is supposed to be Biowares strength.

I don't really see it. There aren't enough games with either good writing or good characters to actually give Bioware an actual run for their money out of the market. What's been killing them is gameplay and choice, not story.

You'd be surprised how many TW fans are on this site. If you check the "Game of Show: E3 2013" thread in the off-topic section, you'll see that the large majority of posters were most impressed by TW3 and are looking forward to that game the most.;)

Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, and you certainly don't have to continue to play a game you don't like, but I would recommend giving The Witcher a chance and play a bit more of the game. I stopped for a while when I was still in Chapter 1 as well, but continued playing later and got very impressed with the game.
Oh, and feel free to not sleep with anybody during your playthrough. You can let Geralt be completely faithful to one woman (there are 2 main love interests in the first game). It's up to you to roleplay the guy how you want it. Just don't complain he's a man wh*re when you're the one clicking the option that leads to a roll in the hay.;)
