Do these attitudes to the mage/templar conflict make any sense?
What did your Hawkes do during the campaign?

Kristella Hawke (Female Mage):

Almost always sided with her fellow mages throughout the game.
However was willing to kill enemy mages without hesitation.
After the death of her mother, she had second thoughts about supporting her fellow mages and even voiced doubts to Anders and Fenris.

Further complicating the situation, Kristella did romance Fenris (which is tragic since at the end of the game, she sided with the mages and had to fight Fenris).

Anders was killed by Hawke after he blew up the Chantry.

Despite spending most of act 3 refusing to side with both Mages and Templars, she was forced to choose and sided with the mages. After her fellow mages transformed into abominations she immediately regretted this choice. She left Kirkwall having started a war that she didn't want anything to do with and now felt like a monster.

Garrus Hawke (Male Templar Warrior):

Garrus was actually a mage sympathiser but also pro Templar at the same time. He views mages as an important and necessary weapon against darkspawn. He also was pro mage because of his sister.

However he had personal experiences in Fereldan with renegade mages and had developed Templar abilities to defend his apostate sister Bethany.

Sometimes sided with mages, sometimes sided with Templars depending on the situation.
After the death of Bethany he was angered by his inability to protect the one he loved. Add to this the death of his mother and Garrus had become hostile to mages, now refusing to have mages in his party (except for the odd companion quest).

So naturally he sided with the templars at the end.

It is important to note that Anders was killed.

Emily Hawke (rogue)

Emily Hawke always was pro templar despite having an apostate sister. Though she also was pro mage like Garrus.

It is important to note that throughout her story, she almost always sided with Templars. She believes that mages are necessary but also needed to be controlled.

Her beliefs were further bolstered by the death of her mother at the hands of a mage. However when Meredith declared rite of annulment Emily actually challenged Meredith.

Garett Hawke (Blood Mage)

Another mage who is sympathetic to fellow mages. Also the only person who didn't have a problem with blood magic.

The only Hawke who didn't kill Anders.
Also romanced Anders.

 Aggressive and angering his companions pretty much all the time.

There's really no room for anyone to judge. You seem like you have a good overall plan for a few different Champions of Kirkwall. Everyone has different characters - their own respective Hero of Ferelden and Champion of Kirkwall. You're welcome to create the kind of protagonist that you want.

What makes sense to you, what motivates your protagonist to choose a specific action, and how you want your character to deal with particular people and certain situations.

If the character makes you happy and entertained, that's what's important. As long as it makes sense to you, that's what matters.

Garrett Hawke:
Warrior
Pro-Mage most of the time and opposed Meredith
Friend Romanced Merrill, but was ill at ease with her blood magic.
Killed Anders because he killed inocent people, but protected the Circle

Liam Hawke
Warrior
Disapproved of blood magic and dealing with demons/spirits strongly
Rivaled Anders and Merrill; Rivalmanced Merrill
Was compassionate towards normal apostates, but sent the du Launcet boy back to the Circle since he thought he'd be shanked within a weak.
Killed Anders
Decided to side with the Mages at the end.

Adrian Hawke
Mage
Sided mostly with his own kind, but had doubts after Quentin
Killed Anders
Protected the innocent Mages
