Hey guys,

So I'm a PS3 player, which means multiplayer gaming is free for me... for now. Apparently on the PS4 you'll ned a Playstation+ account... which iskinda bogus if you ask me. Now I know xbox folks have been paying for multiplayer forever, ut I don't know what it's like on PC. I know a lot of people use Origin (and, ahem, kinda don't like it) but I don't know if there's a monthly fee involved, or how much it is, etc.

ME3 is the only game I ever enjoyed the multiplayer on, and if I had to get a monthly subscription to try it out I probably never would have bothered. So I'm wondering if this is the last nail in the Me Switching To PC Gaming debate's coffin...

Free.
Would someone even pay a monthly fee to play his/her game on his/her PC using his/her Internet connection? Hell no.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. And yet xbox people do it all the time, and PS4 people will have to, also.

I could see paying a monthly fee (a SMALL one) to EA or whoever is running the servers, but if I do that I'm allowed to complain when the servers don't work.

Ok ok complain more.

I always look for deals for my xbox live. Last one I bought was $35 for a renew card on ebay.

That's about $0.09 a day. Paying that little for a service that has 24 hour help isn't too shabby. It's also extremely rare that I've had an issue(once in 8 years... my fault too) and the guy was very nice... even though I am a complete d!ck.

Hell! It costs more to feed a little, starving child in Ethiopia! Well... at least that's what the commercials say.

If the new playstation requires a paid subscription, most likely you'll receive a quality service.

If you doubt it... See how many Collector games you can play in a row on your ps3 now. You get what you pay for.

PC is PC. HAX FOR THE WIN!!!

Not to disagree about your entire point, but the collector PS3 but is not something Sony's online connectivity team could do anything about. It's a memory leak in the game code, and Sony did not write that. It's also a matter of the PS3 showing it's (considerable) age.

In the past year or so (which is how long I've been actually using it) I've rarely had problems connecting to the (free) Playstation network. Now EA servers? THOSE I've had problems with. But again, paying for PSN access would NOT fix that at all.

As for the rest - it's not really a price thing, though. I've tried multiplayer games before ME3 and just never liked them. Never played them more than once or twice. ME3 was a HUGE exception and I wouldn't have even tried it if I didn't need the whole war assets/galaxy readiness thing. If I had to get a subscription I'd never, ever had tried it... and I wouldn't get a subscription for just one game. Makes me sad to think I'd miss out on stuff.

Sometimes I'm not too clear with my words. I apologize.

What I'm trying to get at is that if it was a paid subscription, Sony would have to answer to the masses and fix issues in order to keep the money coming in. As of now, they just shrug and say they'll try to do better next time. I don't blame them. It costs them money to run a free service.

As for multiplayer games... this is the only one I really like. I'm not a big fan of pvp, and most are pvp. The only pvp I like is Uno. Lol!

So yeah... I'm paying a subscription to only play one game. It's worth it to me.

Also, I don't have to bother with Origin, which is a ++++++++++++!!!!!!

As Origin is also a distribution platform (the little ugly, underdeveloped sibling of steam) paying for it would be a bit like paying to get into a store just to get a chance to buy something.

For that to work, it would have to be a REALLY good store (which Origin obviously isn't).

I always thought that was a bit of a jip on xbox users, having to pay numerous times just to play the game online when historically it's always been free to PC users. But after recent activities, who can expect less from Microsoft?

On PC all you need to do is to pay for your internet connection as mostly every kind of multiplayer game is free after purchase of the game except for some MMOs which require a monthly subscription.

There are so many options on PC that no single company can force you do anything, the gamers have the most power on PC not the publishers.

Got a good chuckle out of this.

Thanks for the laugh, chap.

I've been building my PCs for yea... literally decades, I just don't use them for gaming (anymore). My problem with PC gaming is I like the immersive Big-Tv-And-Surround-System experience and that's a lot harder to do with a PC - mostly because a keyboard and mouse are just not as easy to hold as a gamepad...

PC is teh only way I will ever online play.
It annoys me that consoles sell online play as services on top of my internet bill.
I ain't made o money here.

I have a PS3 that I've never taken online and that's how it'll be for forever.
If I buy another console it'll stay offline unless teh online features and services become free.
Which also means from where I'm standing the Xbone is a 500 dollar paper weight and the PS4 better have some good single player experiences.

Now if I could get my arse up and buy myself a new video card.

I'm seriously debating switching to PC once the new consoles come in as well. I'm just not used to using a keyboard for games (as silly as that sounds). I might pick up ME3 for PC just to see what it's like now that the prices have come down. N7 1 baby.

I've just being trying the opposite - playing on a PS3 when used to keyboard/mouse - and cannot get on with it at all.  Go for it - PC is much better IMHO for gaming.  Can upgrade it as needed and apart from paying for monthly ISP and the initial cost of game/DLC - its free.

Also, I just started a new PC account from N7 1 and did better than expected - level 200 in 2 weeks.  Is all that extra manifest as good as its made out to be I wonder.

Seriously, would anyone pay for Origin.  It's worse than useless at times.

Yeah, I think the ability to upgrade your PC is what I like the most. Meanwhile consoles get outdated quickly. Your post is pushing me to getting a PC acount even more. I think I might do it today haha. It's painful though, I have almost a complete manifest and have logged 1000+ hours.. I guess we'll see if it does make a difference tho as you mentioned.

Getting use to keyboard gaming is going to be my challenge also, but clearly it is superior when it comes to shooters. I put mine together for just over $800, which would be considered a budget build. I put some time into it though and think it came out pretty nice > build <

I will likely pick up ME3MP for it once it is built.

Thanks for the link. Decisions, decisions. I really started to notice the quality differences once I started watching PC player's vids. I think as true mass effect fans, we should be going for the best quality gameplay out there right? Good luck learning the controls!

FasterThanFTL is speaking the truth this time.

On PC we don't pay to be able to play Multiplayer.

We are the Master Race.

but some games require a monthly fee like World of Warcraft and some others MMORPG and even those are declining and moving to the free to play.
