Two-headshots Geth hunters on Plat. If you specialised sniper and concentrate on mooks, the rest can focus on killing bosses. It all depends on skill level you have :)

Or you could equip a better SR and one shot mooks and have better DPS versus bosses.

I prefer the mantis to the viper ANY day

This seems like a more valid review/preference than comparing the Viper to UR weapons like the BW, Valiant and Indra.

My aim is nothing to write home about so I prefer getting 6 attempts to land 2 or 3 decent hits than the Mantis's 1 attempt to get 1 hit.

The Valiant is a slightly better mook killer if you can headshot. The BW is the better all around weapon.

Viper is amazing in silver, not much in anything above......BW is the best sniper in multishot category

People don't use the Viper because it has relatively low damage for its class, combined with a ridiculously low ROF, resulting in a DPS so astonishingly low that it's rivalled by the freaking Avenger.

If you do insist on using it beyond Silver though, a Salarian Infiltrator can OHK most undefended Gold infantry with a cloaked Viper headshot (Dragoon and Possessed Captain may require 2 shots), and has Energy Drain to ensure most such infantry are undefended.

Interestingly bad comparisons and made up accuracy/stability levels. This thread made me smile.

Viper is perfectly accurate. L2aim to thise who say otherwise. It has depressingly low damage but is easily gold viable on a proper sniper build.

Obviously BW and Valiant are better. Which of those two is the best IMO depends on kit. My SI with Valiant is a ruthless headhunting killer. Black Widow damage seems more lag-affected than the Valiant.

Saying the BW is de facto the best is an opinion, nothing more, and maybe wrong altogether.

Those who say the Viper is inaccurate and unstable should actually wield the weapon. Go into scope mode, shoot, mash the shooting button, and see how the crosshair places itself exactly where you shot before you actually fire the following round, without even moving all that much in the first place.

It's also a decent main weapon on gold, and a decent secondary weapon on a CQC-oriented character on plat. A light long range weapon is good for those hack situations, for instance, though it's probably better to use a Carnifex (similar damage per shot+higher RoF+same weight) overall, except on an Infiltrator, thanks to TC 6b (as a secondary weapon, as i mentioned earlier).

I've actually done quite a few QMI plat games with a Piranha+Viper setup and depending on the map/faction, i killed more with one or the other(Geth/plat on an open map typically implies SR superiority, even if it's a Viper).

Of course it's outclassed by a high level Valiant in every aspect but weight, but it's still efficient enough to use and have fun with, even on the higher difficulty levels, contrary to a Phaeston or Scimitar, or Phalanx, all in the same uncommon category.

... except I actually find the Phaeston quite fun on gold ... on the TSol vs Reapers - Trollin' Marauders with a Phaeston - oh yeah :D

And yet the mantis outclasses it on the higher difficulties, is cheaper to acquire, reload cancel, and packs more punch.

That refire time is too slow for my tastes.

If a common weapon outclasses it, it kind of says something.

I'd rather use the incisor, which isn't a terribly bad gun. Deal with the recoil and it's actually quite decent.

I find the Phaeston somehow frustrating on Gold. Since it has SMG-level damage, you feel the difference between 65% AP and 90% AP more than with a Mattock or even Vindicator, which is quite constraining in the end . Even then you still have to deal with significant recoil on one hand (unless Turian), and inaccuracy (unless hard cover or scope. Gold/Plat difficulties advantage soft cover a lot).
That's a lot to compensate.

OperatingWookie: Viper is definitely superior to a Mantis overall, and not the same type of SR anyway. It's like comparing a Valiant to a Javelin.

omg people on BSN talking sence! no surely not. but tis true! viper is just so easy to handle.
on my infidrell I can use TC activation, place mine, shoot and break cloak, detonate mine, reload cancel with TC activation, place mine, shoot and break cloak, detonate mine, reload cancel with TC activation...

or on my asari snipeguard, I can use the viper with HVB, AP mod and warp ammo, then stasis snipe and it does 2296 damage on a headshot. EDIT: my mistake, it actually deals 3444 on a headshot, forgot about the 50% damage increase form stasis.

yeap poop sniper rifle, pfft. Image IPB

If you want a long range, lightweight secondary weapon you should be going for an Arc Pistol, Executioner, Supressor, Paladin, Eagle, Indra, Valiant...

Even at the Uncommon rarity level, you have the Raptor, Phalanx and Mantis. Hell I'm not much a fan of the Locust but even that's better than the Viper due to the headshot bonus.
