Sersiouly. So she has trust issues, and doesn't like aliens in the first game. She has her reasons.

I'm sure there's countless threads asking this same exact question, but from the ones I've seen, people are either dismissive of her personality from the beginning because she's just abrasive and annoying, find her boring, or some actually liked her in Mass Effect, and didn't like what she became in parts 2 and 3 (some complaints aiming more at the changes in the character's physical appearance). Personally, I like her overall, but she and Kaiden both have very little to say in ME3 once you get past his/her overcoming mistrust about Shepard's ties to Cerberus, which, admittedly, was kind of tiresome.

Her ****** poor dialog, insulting Shep at every turn regardless of patching up the friendship, rampant alcoholism, character re-design, breath mask instead of helmets on 3/4 outfits, and her boring Normandy chatter.

Judging by the amount of people I know and see who like Ashley, it doesn't seem that "everyone" hates Ashley. Not even close. While I'm not overt fond of Ashley, I don't hold any particular contempt for her, aside for her unnecessarily hostile words toward Miranda if you break off a romance wih Ash for Miranda.

I would guess that more people like Ashley than like Miranda.

My Shepard is a pretty heavy drinker. She's spent quite a few breaks in Dark Star Lounge, Afterlife, Eternity and Purgatory. Ash would be the perfect companion.

In the first game there is a glitch where ash says "I can't tell the aliens from the animals" everywhere on the citadel so everyone's first thought jumps to her being racist. She is only supposed to say it when next to a keeper.

She's "too real". And reminds people of their own issues.

Besides that: Ashley doesn't trust Aliens in the beginning, but her PoV can be altered (paragonized). Her trust issues seem to be hardest to swallow, but technically, that's not true. People tend to hate her for:

- her religious views
- poetry-lover
- human
- "racist"

Distrust was added with ME3, since her entire character plot AND character got reduced to distrust and Cerberus for nearly the entire game. Which also means Ashley is one of few characters, next to Allers, who couldn't get many new fans in ME3. In fact a lot of her fans left Ash in ME3 since her character was gimped. And I can understand those fans - overall, most of Ashley's fans still feel betrayed.

For a character (same for Kaidan), that started as someone important, with emotional attachment (decision on Virmire, LI, Horizon, ...) ME3 doesn't deliver a good finale. It feels as if her writer dropped the ball while developing her plot in ME3 (begin of ME3 was fine, second half was meh) - and I think that's true.

Also who got that idea to make her a boozer?!

Possible, since several Ashley fans also like Miranda. Like me B)

I recall her saying "Look at that bug thing" next to the keeper at the Citadel tower elevator.

She has a good personality and character, but she has voiced some terrible lines. In ME2 when you meet her on Horizon, her dialog is quite bad. And then again in ME3, using lines like "hero-man" make me cringe. Seriously, a few lines of terribly written and voiced dialog can make me hate the entire character. It isn't fair, but I really hate those lines.

It looks like a bug thing.

Also the Rachni & the Rachni Queen look like "bug things". And thousands of players decided to destroy those bug things by killing the Queen without wasting a second thought on the idea killing her is commiting genocide.

Just my 2 cents in that field. "Bug thing" isn't nice, but as long as you don't kill "bug things" you're better than those who do that.

Horizon felt incomplete and badly written, yeah.

And "hero-man" ... what's wrong with "Skipper"? I loved the sexy tone in "Skipper" <3

You know, me too but that scene on the Normandy was just too much. Shep waking up on Aria's couch was cute but that blubbering performance on my deck was not welcome. That's my prejudice coming through, I hate slovenly drunks IRL, I take my drinking cues from Oskar Schindler in Schindler's List; always have a drink in hand but always be in control.

I've never had a chance to hate her in ME3, because I hated her in ME1 and left her to get blown up.

Admittedly, my dislike of Ashley was mostly due to an unhappy coincidence; she happened to be the character who presented the 'err on the side of genocide' stance regarding the Rachni. This kind of shifted my image of her from 'slightly biased' to 'murderous xenophobe'; and that stuck with me through later replays. 'First impressions' and all that.

I was flirting with her about halfway through Mass Effect, then all a sudden, she says "Yo, we can't trust the Council!1!!! OR Wrex or Gawwus!!1!!"...

I don't hate her, but I don't like her either. : /

I don't know what your opinion on him is, but it's worth pointing out that Wrex wants you to kill the rachni too.

Actually, I'd consider Wrex to be the most racist ME1 squadmate in general.

I only meant to clarify as a response to Liam. I guess I should've quoted him at the same time.

Ashley was a wasted character, especially if you romanced her, there was so much potential to greatly expand on that in ME2 and 3. She never talks to shepard about her feelings when he was gone, while thinking he was dead except for a few lines on horizon in ME2. Her alcoholism could have been attributed to her wrecked emotional state about Shepard, and her last resort for dealing with the guilt for abandoning him when he needed her the most, and made her plot deeper, but it wasn't. Even if you do stay faithful to her and forgive her, there are no apologies,no emotional embraces, just "Hey Shepard"

Avina has more lines than her in ME3,wich pretty much says everything you need to know about Bioware's feelings about the Character, and her fans. "Why does some people dislike Ashley ?" because Bioware doesn't give the player much choice but to detach from her. She is not there in ME2,and is barely there in ME3,the excuse for 2 is contrived and asinine, and BW didn't even give an excuse for 3!!. Even the Citadel DLC didn't add much, you just drink with her a little, exchange some trash talk, and sleep together again and its over, blink and you will miss it.

I want to like Ashley, but I don't anymore has much, and its not because of her Racism,Wich about 80% of all Humans are guilty of to some extent in 2183(The Skyllian Blitz,First Contact War)Humans first encounters with Aliens didn't go so well. And its not because of her religion, wich my Shepard happens to also believe in!! Its because of 2 reasons, the poorly written mistrust of the man she supposedly couldn't stop crying about for a year, and because Bioware pretty much wrote her out of relevance!!

Admittedly, I usually had Ashley die in my playthroughs, so I don't remember a whole lot on her end. Funny that both she and Kaiden seem to dig drinking, but Kaiden just wants to relax with some Canadian lager. I guess it was just meant to be.

I think because she gets a lot of the negative lines in ME1 - she's always second guessing Shepard's decisions ("I sure hope you know what you are doing").
As for her distrusting aliens, she is entitled to her opinion but I would expect her to follow orders and not insult alien dignitaries ("I can't tell the aliens from the animals" on the Citadel presidium).

Plus there's the comically unfounded hostility in ME2 - blaming Shepard for not returning to the Alliance or contacting her whilst Shepard *was dead* (or in a coma or whatever). Of course, the same applies to Kaidan.

Besides that: Ashley doesn't trust Aliens in the beginning, but her PoV can be altered (paragonized). Her trust issues seem to be hardest to swallow, but technically, that's not true. People tend to hate her for:

Right, so I am less real because poetry does nothing for me?

I don't hate any Mass Effect squad member. Anybody else in the extreme minority here?

Since the cast includes everything from terrorists and religious fanatics to serial killer sex vampires, it is hard to not find anyone you hate.
