I don't hate any Mass Effect squad member. Anybody else in the extreme minority here?

Neither do I. I'm actually quite fond of most of them. The ones that I'm not a fan of just don't give me any reason to actually hate them.

Ah, okay, my mistake :)

@s-jay2676

The "can't tell the aliens from the animals" is still a bugged line that never got fixed. It wasn't meant to be played as generic comment. I think a BW official stated that once.
And the bear-dog-story is not against aliens. She puts the Council races in the role of said human and mankind is the dog. Means: if everything goes wrong, the Council races are going to sacrifice mankind or won't help them.

Given the fact how things turned out in ME3, Ashley was right. Only the Turians were willing to help - after you helped them.

Frankly, the most disappointing part of ME3 (to me) was how she was treated by the game's writers. It's basically like they decided they were going to write for her haters instead of her fans.

A thought I never had, but feels plausible. Sometimes.

Man, I -really- missed Chris L'Etoiles work. Thane wasn't the same anymore, Ash was not even Ash.

I bet Chris felt pissed about that too

First impressions may have something to do with it.

If you approach Ashley with an ME1/ME3 Paragade or Paragon playthrough, she actually undergoes one of the more rewarding journeys of the characters.

It's a question of taste, of course.

For many people, Jack's journey was rewarding, whereas I found the newer personality less endearing.

In Ashley's case, I liked that she evolved, and was always staunchly opposed to Cerberus' extremity. Ashley represented a very real voice, to me. She was believable as a character, and her flaws served to deepen the meaning of her character arc. At least, in my Paragon playthrough, they did.

Perhaps Ashley being human is part of the problem. When we see aliens like Mordin or Wrex exhibit their flaws, we find them endearing, because we readily see the differences between us. When Ashley says things that touch on prejudice, we feel it more, because it exposes the darker tinges of humanity to us. The mirror might be a little too focused with Ashley.

For some people, anyway. I found the arc rewarding, and was quite disappointed in her minimal presence in ME 2 (I would have liked to have her on the crew.)

I anal-retentively went through the conversations with each character after each mission on every floor of the ship in all three games. I came away liking them all, flaws included.

(Except maybe Jacob. His whining eventually got to me. :innocent:)

what we have here is a failure.. to comm...er Immersify players.

really tho, minor characters like Ash and okayden the hateful one..

the story doesn't 'give' much on their behalf, so the players have to 'sum it all up', like in this OP.

No one really dislikes Ash, She just fades the rest of the way out. imho

she was  a pre teen curmudgeon?

(she should of totally trusted Shepard, even IF he/she ganged up with Cerberus... her spot judgments were.. uncanny.)

I didn't know, it's a bug and I see the bear-dog-story the other way around.

EDIT: I watched the bear-dog-conversation again, and yes, you are right. So, I take my statement back and hope I didn't anger anyone.

Ashley's story was about why the Alliance shouldn't rely on the Council. The moral of the story wasn't that dogs are untrustworthy, in the story the human leaves the dog behind to find the bear and ergo cannot be relied upon.

Since the cast includes everything from terrorists and religious fanatics to serial killer sex vampires, it is hard to not find anyone you hate.

I don't see them as people, I see them as characters. Accordingly, my love/hate is doled out based on whether or not they are interesting/entertaining, as opposed to whether or not they are people I'd like in real life.

So, to summarize, I find all the squadmates interesting/entertaining.

Because she's straight, believes in God, is conservative and ****. And that is a bad thing these days because, you know, it's a bad thing.

I've never had a chance to hate her in ME3, because I hated her in ME1 and left her to get blown up.

Admittedly, my dislike of Ashley was mostly due to an unhappy coincidence; she happened to be the character who presented the 'err on the side of genocide' stance regarding the Rachni. This kind of shifted my image of her from 'slightly biased' to 'murderous xenophobe'; and that stuck with me through later replays. 'First impressions' and all that.

I don't know what your opinion on him is, but it's worth pointing out that Wrex wants you to kill the rachni too.

Actually, I'd consider Wrex to be the most racist ME1 squadmate in general.

I tend to view Wrex's position as being a little different from Ashley's.  For one thing, his people fought in the Rachni war, so he has reason to consider their return as a bad thing; whereas, they are not enemies of human kind.  Broadly speaking, his racism is targetted at species that could be considered enemies of the Krogan, rather than just being about aliens in general.

I don't know if she's conservative (can't tell either way). I am straight though and believe in God. I still don't like her. I don't find any of that relevant. My dislike is more about general personality and behavior. Things that matter on a day to day basis. I can easily run into plenty of real life people who are straight and believe in God, and equally dislike them too.

I think conservatives in 2183 are going to be very different than conservatives today. So I don';t think it can be meaningfully applied to her.

I'm not sure, but it would seem to me, wrex came out of that 'hate the bugs' the Krogan seem to banner up from old school... Ashley just seemed to stay that way, what ever that was. They did dress her up/or down some tho..lol

I think she was one of the most interesting characters in The franchise, due to her personality. I really enjoyed some of the dialogues with her.

Ash is basically that friend you plead to when you say "Just trust me for a second. STFU and just trust me."

And then doesn't do it. And not only that, she consistently doesn't do it.

Miranda pulls the same thing on Shepard too, when she goes looking for Oriana. She needs access to Alliance data, and says "just trust me." Considering all the wacky Cerberus context at that point in the game, you could easily think she might be secretly in on it after all, and will use that Alliance info against you. But if you know her at all, you trust her. She basically spit in Illusive Man's face at the Collector Base. Ash has seen similar integrity from you in ME1. Yet she chooses to be paranoid.
