Sure. The more you can do and add into tactics the better. If you can jump up to higher ground as an archer or mage to use to your advantage, why not?

It's not that important to me, unless it's relevant to the game play or combat.

I wouldn't mind being able to jump in the game but I can live without it.

Jumping for a single character is not hard. Jumping for an entire party is a different story. A lot of pathfinding routines are not that great to begin with. Now add in the pathfinding with jumping for three other companions controlled by the program. Not a trivial task. The point becomes is it worth the effort or necessary to the game.
If it takes away from other parts of the game it may not be worth it. If it is necessary for the game why use the resources to implement it.

Dragon's Dogma handled companion jumping just fine.

The difference is that in DA2 the gamer controls the entire party. The player does not control the pawns in Dragon's Dogma. The gamer can only issue commands to them. The gamer would have to give up control of the other three companions in DA:I to the AI which means the AI may do actions that the gamer does not want to be done.
NWN made the mistake of taking control of the henchmen away from the player. The outcry was loud and heard by Bioware. The expansions gave back control of the henchmen to the player. Dragon Age:Origins and DAII continue that tradition. The gamer has totally control of the party, or can set up the tactics for the party.
I have no problem with jumping if there is a reason for it in the story.

Only if there's a need for it.

I've had zero need for jumping in DAO and DA2, so if DA:I follows their example, there will be no need for jumping, and I will not ask or hope for it.

As long as the enemy has the same ability and it fits the story. Also if the archer jumps to higher ground should there be a chance that the archer misses and falls. I mean if jumping is being added for realism then mistiming a jump should cause a fall making the archer more likely to be hit or injured in the fall.

I can honestly say, that after all the times I played Origins and 2, not once did I think: "Man! I wish I could jump!"

Of course, I might still be scarred by the later Ultima games, and Kings Quest: MOE.

I want to jump down small platforms that are only three feet off the ground, that's what I want. Origins and DA2 was a little annoying in this regard. "Really? You can't jump down a little ledge? I could do that for crying out loud!"

Nah. Jumping in this game wouldn't mean anything unless jumping became a core mechanic. ME3 added jumping... you held a button and Shepard jumped over a minor break in the path. It added nothing because it required no skill, you're never chased, you have no jump puzzles, and jumping never had any meaning.

It was exactly like going down a hallway only in the middle of the hallway you pressed a button.

And I figure that's all it would be here as well.

Not even standing on the platform outside the Redcliffe windmill made you wish for a jump button?

I suppose that's the only time I've ever even thought of it myself, but then I do have an unnatural fascination with making my protagonists plummet to an untimely death.. repeatedly..

I never felt the need of jumping in DA games, and problems like what the party does while I jump pop into my mind. Just because it works in mass effect that doesn't mean it has to work in DA too

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but it seems appropriate right now.

After what we've seen in PAX and the demo, let's try again. We have open world elements. Would you folks like the ability to JUMP?

I certainly would, even for the heck of it. With these physics it would look awesome.

Yes I would like jumping, climbing and hiking. I hate it when your character is just walking up a mountain like in skyrim.

If there's jumping, it should only be for chest-high obstacles and for getting to places high up. Basically, for exploration purposes.

I would like this option, but mostly because you can sort of get used to being able to do it in a lot of other games... Then you get to ME or DA and it feels so awkward to not be able to jump. It makes sense that you can't, because you don't NEED to, but still feels weird- at least at the beginning.

If there are places we need to jump/climb to reach, then sure. It's not necessary for me though.

I do hope this is in the game; certainly adds a bit more depth to exploration in SWTOR and Skyrim.
