I'm reading "Prague Cemetery" at the moment. Here's a quote from the book that's kind of burned into my brain.... "The greatest storytellers portray themselves in their characters." What do you guys think?

I think I missed answering that, and sorry I did.

There's a professional writer I know who hasn't denied that, but in his fiction (and I'm paraphrasing here) when he was asked if he had drawn from his real life experience he actually said his real life experiences were harder to believe, and more tragic. Since I was his roommate in college for a year and a half or so, I would confirm that to be true, at least for that author. Some incidents I know directly, but really, how they converted to story was really the art. Basically, even though the events weren't as bad, or their outcomes were better, the impact is as great because of the writing.

Yes, would be the answer to the question, but I think not as directly as one would tend to believe.

Good one. Image IPB

How many counts of theft, murder, and now stolen identity of Asari Military personnel? STG was after her for years or shall we say generations. As Aria said, "You can easily outlive a Salarian, but you can't outlive their bookkeeping." The case went cold. She killed the last operative that was on it.

And now "Mom" is up above Earth in the Destiny Ascension excited to see her daughter who is now a war hero. Quelle surprise when she walks in the ward. And sarge doesn't know this unless "Mom." decides to contact the hospital, but since they're in the middle of a battle that won't happen until the battle is over. Will the sarge disappear again? Do they have advanced bone healing methods?

This will be in about 24 hours of "story" time not real time I'm guessing. Shepard makes it to the beam.... has confrontation with The Illusive Man, then we have the "epic ending." The fleet returns from the rendezvous point. Marisa Soniri takes a shuttle to London to visit her daughter.

"You're not Nasyra."
"Yes I am."
"I'm her mother. No you're not."
"S***. I recognize the uniform. Am I going to need a lawyer?"

I don't know about portreying as a character.

But the early days writing for Zia and Naomi where they were feeling ignored came from the fact I hadn't gtten around to writing for them for a long time. So I fed that impression into the story and then used their bio's to find way's they could reach out and gather attention. Which culminated in Zia and Wyld's kiss and Naomi's torture and resurrection. Since at the time Naomi didn't have a bio.

I think when we write a character we put aspects of ourselves into them, whether those aspects are active or dormant.

I've never participated in this sort of thing before. I could have taken some characters from a fan fiction that I am doing, and indirectly I used an indirect connection to it because I plan to integrate this little drama with it as part of the ground war in London.

But for this purpose, I had to create a bunch of entirely new characters. Who were these people? I started with just two listed in my role play, but as Kel mentioned to me, my little story was not about my two characters. It was "the squad." So while you guys might have been doing a role play, I was writing for "the squad" and telling a their story. There are lead characters, and there are supporting characters. And unfortunately there seems to be a nearly non-existent character.... poor Erikka. I haven't developed her except to say she's kind of the airhead of the group.

But I have an inner ditz. I have an inner T. I have an inner Shayrana. I have an inner Ereba that comes out every now and then.

Ranassa and the Sarge are character archetypes. Ranassa is strictly out of several movies. But the sarge and I have something in common. I moved around a lot when I was younger. I lived in completely different regions of the country about every 3 years, and I'd have to pretty much start a new life. Then when I retired I relocated again, so when I created that character I drew off of that, and added all that other stuff to it.

But portraying a character? That's different. That's getting into a role. This was something I had trouble with. I write up deep dossiers on characters I'm going to role play, and I did that with Shepard. I also played the game too many times and played that same role too many times that when I hit the ending I had trouble getting out of the role because of the way the ending was done without any closure. I won't do that again.

Wyld was originally created as a support character. She was meant to stay in the back ground and be someone who could carry the other's. I'd never intended for her to have so much action.

Then the writing started and by deciding to stay loose with her, found that she just wasn't getting into a situation where she was meeting up with others. She met Zia, but I'd taken over FF's writing duties by then so writing for Zia had the factor that, 1. I didn't want to write to much for her as I didn't want to define her to much. and 2. Having Zia and Wyld interacting would simply be me interacting with myself. If that makes sense.

So I started playing for time.

And got frustrated that Zia wasn't getting any attention.

And one thing led to another.

And a hotel exploded.

If I have character's in hand and it's just me guiding them thing's tend to roller coaster from good to bad.

But what's interesting is who Wyld has devloped over the course of event's. she was never intended to be put in the position of a leader. Yet as my main on a mission that's what she became. A notion she became aware of and was unhappy with.

Then arriving at Bastion, she thought, 'that's it'. She's out of squad leading. Then Radcliffe offer's her a promotion with a leadership role and she takes it.

She's going to come into conflict with her medic background and new responsibilites at some point. She can't be charge of a squad and be resuscitating soldier's at the same time.

The fact that Momma is going to be pointing out her similarities between motherhood and squad command may just help her decide how she will approach the situation.

Things happen. It has a lot to do with who can write and when. Everything is fine and it is tough to coordinate people with different writing schedules. So, it all turned out for the better and be happy for the way it has gone so far!

New post up.

And Wyld's thinking about the future again.

She knows she shouldn't. But the prospect of introducing Zia to Wyld's parent's was just to tempting to pass up.

And Momma reveals herself to Wyld. In more ways than one.

And while I was going to write more about them. I figure I'll just hurry things along. Get them to the action and feed it all in as we go.

Pace yourself Red....... BREATH!!!

I really like the way these stories are unfolding. These are the untold stories in London. The struggles of people trying to survive from one moment to the next in this crazy war.

The sarge is out of the war. She's going to get very creative very quickly and weave another web of lies. There is a perfect job available for her once she's healed. But this story will continue.

The other five? We'll see what is in store. How much longer is this story going to go on? When does Shepard reach the beam? I can't think of anything to top what they just did. It's just pretty much escort Jack's team to their checkpoint, then I haven't figured it out.

Vega ran into the briefing room. "We kneecapped a Reaper people! Boom! Straight through and Balm! It got away but I gotta tell Loco. Where is he"?

Liara sat on a crate that jumped and shudderd. Someone seem to be knocking from the inside while muffled cries came from within. Liara looked up innocently. "Shepard, who"?

Lol. Well, Camp Bastion (Passion) will be getting 3 A-61 Mantis gunships, plus associated personnel. They're going need some repair, maintenance, and reloading, though. Nevertheless, they are good to go, once that is done.

Pepper's running shielded cable's around the base to run telephone lines, since wireless is out of the question lest a Reaper fall on them.

I think, other than Pepper and Gizmo, the camp only has one other named professional. The rest are just MP's tasked to other assignment's.

They'll need to get some more techs in Bastion if they want those Gunships restocked and able to perform. Can't trust those MP's to wire up a new rocket pod to the fire control mechanism.

Also, nice to see Naomi making sure Camp Passion live's up to it's name now Wyld and Zia are seperated.

Speaking of..... next scene shall lead to battle!

Probably, we'll say Tempest two or 4 is carrying an engineer on board who can get it going once the right equipment is provided. These things were made to be maintained in the field (as proven in ME2). Therefore Pepper and Gizmo are not obligated to work on them. Although if they did they'd probably do an amazing job!

Thanks, I did and responded. Hope you saw. Sorry, dealing with some stuff at the home front. Anyway, we are clarifying, and no problem....

Edit: due to some confusion, I posted a possible map for the underground events here:

Ah yes. Sgt Soniri. Sgt Nasyra Soniri or shall we say Naleena T'soa alias Sgt. Nasyra Soniri.

It's a little late. She's gone under. She's getting a rod put in the bone and some bolts to hold it in place. Basically she's fooked. If we survive this war, which we know we will, and Soniri's "Mom" comes down for a visit in a couple of days. Naleena might find out she's facing about 800 years in prison.... you know for small stuff like.... STG has been after her for a few generations for thefts, assassinations (even though some of them may have been for various govenrments through agents, she gets to take the fall -- you know Salarians and their record keeping), and various other criminal activities that were done via contracts.

But she's a war hero!!! Doesn't that make up for all of that? I mean really! So what if she stole this dead person's identity. She didn't need it anymore. She was dead. And the dead person's mother who got her the nice safe job as a clerical worker, thought her daughter became a huntress and war hero??? She had bragging rights for six months. Isn't that worth something? I mean the REAL dead sarge's mother works for the Council Advocate General's office. She represents Spectres when there's trouble.

Poor Naleena. Her life caught up with her after 250 years. 50 years of petty crime, then moving on to 200 years of harder stuff. She's one of the top assassins and thieves in the galaxy if not the best at the moment. She's been living the good life between jobs for the last 150 years. One stinking mistake, and it's 800 years. So sad. Such a waste of talent. Naleena needs to get the hell out of that hospital, but she doesn't know it.

Zia can make introductions with Aria. She might have a position for her. But knowing Zia, she would probably take a taste herself.
I really admire your ability to write for so many characters, and how you manage to stay on track with all those Asari :D

Hmmmm. Wyld's engaged in battle and the events to follow so she's not able to engage in the hospital events. Otherwise she'd probably bound in and say. "Anyone who can still fight report to the front gate. Your heading to Bastion for new orders".
