i've never been a mage in this game i've always been the warrior or the rogue type of player , hell i even played as an archer and i feel like im missing out on a huge part of the game.

now i had too play through as a Dalish Elf and i know some people like that Origin i just thought it was very boring. so how good is the mage origin? or even is it any fun being a mage is it overpowered? on nightmare do you really have to becareful not too hurt your own teammates?

sorry with a bunch of questions thrown left and right but i don't know much about being a mage.

lastly i don't enjoy being a overpowered character just too me its not fun being overpowered that no enemie can beat me i enjoy the thrill that i can die in the game that i really have to plan things out.

Why not just play it? If worst comes to worst and it's absolutely horrendous, then... you wasted about 90 minutes of your life.

The origin story itself isn't that good. It ranks one step above Dalish (dead last) in my book. It is however very interesting to interact with other characters as a mage. Especially Morrigan and Wynne, but there's lots of casual "Mage! Run for your life!" type conversations too. And obviously it opens up a whole new realm of RP possibilities since your character has possibly never interacted with the world outside the Tower.

Playing as a mage does get overpowered, far more so as an Arcane Warrior because it cancels out the usual mage squishiness and makes you a walking fortress surrounded by clouds of death.

If you're on the PC I definitely recommend using increased difficulty mods to make it more fun. If not you can always gimp yourself by soloing and/or not using AoE spells.

Mage is my second favorite after Dwarf Noble. The only one that seemed rushed for release was Human Noble.

I'm surprised you say that; I always got the impression that it was made first or at least early on (it's in the only area that isn't used in the game elsewhere, for one).  I think that the first content made can sometimes have its own kind of issues, though.

As for the mage origin, I thought it was fairly good but not great. I do think it's disappointing that it's the only choice for a mage PC (I know it's partially due to the situation of mages in Thedas, but they could have done a Dalish one, perhaps).

The best origin imo.

What's fun about the mage origin story, you can see the Circle Tower in it's original state (won't say more about that, this is the non-spoiler section).

I always found it the most fun to RP. Are you a circle mage through and through? Do you desperately yearn to get out and never look back? Has the tower sheltered you, stunted you, aged you beyond you years? I have found while the origin itself is a bit blah choosing a mindset for your mage can make the playthru especially satisfying more so than any other origin.

EG: My most supremely satisfying playthru was of a mage driven by terror, she did many evil unspeakable things to amass the power to defy returning to the circle and being helplessly ttrapped behind those doors ever again, she saved the circle for last. If a choice was offerred in the game that would give her more power or allow her to avoid the tower no matter how dark she took it. She thought she was being strong but in truth it was fear that drove her to very dark extremes. She was a bit unhinged.

That playthru was so satisfying because I typically play paragon characters or paragades. That Surana was one evil ****. It was soooo fun.

For me, the mage origin is the weaker of all the origins stories. Which is sad as I love playing a mage more than warrior or rogue. But it ranks higher than the 2 dwarf origins (only because I don't like orzammar). Dalish (mage mod of course) is the best imo followed closely by human noble, then city elf.

Playing a mage, is the most fun,(for me). I hate running round fighting for a spot to hit, when you have 2 other melee's fighting the same enemy. I like to stand back and rain terror.
It can get overpowered, especially if you have several AOE's. You can pretty much immobilize a group of enemies long enough for the rest of your group to take them down. But it beats the knockdowns and misses you can get from being a melee.
