To be fair, it relies on fewer new assumptions than the essence being retrievable does.

Say that this is true. Retrieving them afterwards would violate one of the Cardinal Rules of Magic. Resurrection is almost impossible in this setting, remember? And the only times that come to mind involve a body being left afterwards. It's not impossible for this to be possible, it just requires basically every relevant rule established to be put aside at once, where Bioware usually limits themselves to ignoring one of their own rules at a time.

It is in the context of the Cardinal Rules. And since apparently Gaider has gone on record saying that there is no OGB without the DR, that makes it even harder.

We don't really know enough about the potential OGB to call it a ressurection. Taking the essence of an OG and fusing it with a just-conceived embryo is not exactly a normal situation.

Since that by itself already skirts the Cardinal Rule against resurrection, I'd have to say I agree with you there. Still, the ritual really seems to work based on the Archdemon's natural ability to skirt that rule. I really don't see where you get the impression that it can be done otherwise.

And besides, if anyone can come up with ways around the Cardinal Rules it's the woman who is one of the oldest and most powerful mages in all of Thedas. After all, according to Mr. Gaider all talk of the Cardinal Rules of magic should have the disclaimer "...according to what we know" attached. Just because the modern Circle doesn't know how to do something, doesn't mean it's impossible.

All previous violations of that rule have used a body that was left behind. We have seen no evidence so far that resurrection is possible otherwise. I'm not saying the writers couldn't do it. They can technically do anything. It's just that no previous lore supports it.

And I'm not saying the OGB will or should be in all games regardless of choice, I'm just saying that the lore easily allows for it to happen without any immutable facts being violated.

And I'm saying that "easily" is not the word.

Perhaps 'easily' is not the best choice of words on my part. I ment simply that it would not strain my suspension of disbelief if it were to occur.

And again, this is Flemeth we're talking about here. She has pretty much already shattered the 'no ressurection/immortality' rule. It's no great leap for her to do it again.

Fair enough.

My impression is that she does this by not letting herself completely die at any point, rather than because she is powerful enough that the rule means nothing to her.

Flemeth used the phylactery like thing like the arcane warrior was in, I believe. So... how many killed Flemeth, might there be two in DA:I?

I suppose she may have givin one to Morrigan as a back up.

Since when has Morrigan even been selfless? Doubt she would raise her kid to be.

Since when is saving the world selfless? As the world goes so go those who dwell there.

I really doubt she just wants the OGB just so it can save the world.

Well, she lives in the world, if she knew it would end and having a baby would save the world, and by extention her, I think she would.

She probebly just wants to "eat" it though...:?

What I meant was she isn't just gonna have it save the world then be on her merry way.

No, what she wants depends on what Flemeth is and if she is willing use it to extend her power or life.
What the kid is or does depends on how much it remembers or knows.

I think the point is you can't know it's a bad thing to make this deal.

It probebly is though.

Indeed. Which is why most of my Wardens tell her to stuff it.

Why not?  The world is where she keeps most of her stuff. :P

If Morrigan does have her potential spawn save the world, I hope it takes a leaf out of her book and kills her.

Morrigan doesn't really seem to have backup plans; I mean really, she could have at least faked liking Alistair to get in his pants if the Warden tells her to stuff it. Instead she just focuses on the Warden, who can tell her to go to hell and she just leaves. Not very good planning skills. At least Flemeth is more genre-savvy.

True, but I can sympathize with Morrigan finding it hard to stomach Alistair at times.

Lol me too, but you figured she would just mask her distaste if her Warden-manipulation went to hell, as it does in some cases.

But it does for some people, which is the crux of the matter.

That, and calling Morrigan a b!tch is kinda hilarious when she's all "Well, I'm leaving since you won't knock me up kthnxbai"

Wait, are we talking about Male Wardens or what? 'Cause I'm not sure how to interpret your comment.

Though yes, Alistair can be sweet; but it gets like syrup sometimes. I'M DROWNING

Faking to like Alistair just for the DR?  I'm not sure even Morrigan is that power hungry.

She certainly gives up quickly when she knows she can't manipulate the Warden into it haha.

Some Wardens do. She is quick to abandon you, regardless of friendship, if you turn her down though. What a nice friend.

Luckily, that scene doesn't exist in metagaming.

I don't know what time it is where you are, but its 2:20 here, I stopped being serious hours before I went on a gif posting spree.

She definately has her own reasons for helping the Warden.  That said the DR was a mutually beneficial event.  The Warden got to live and Morrigan got her kid.  And for those who romanced her.... ;)

Unless you make Alistair/Loghain do it. It's even worse if it's Alistair, considering all the implications of Maric's dragon blood and the rumours about Fiona.

Unfortunetly metagaming isn't canon. My mage was very unimpressed with her and swore a lot about it
