Anders was at least cool in Awakening.

Genocide is genocide and will be responded to as such. None of the information about Orsino is known at the time of the decision, and in the mage ending, he kills no one at all; all corpses he used were killed by templars. Additionally, his reason for not alerting Meredith about Quentin was to avoid the Annulment; I know that some blame Anders as much as Meredith for that, but those people by their own logic would be forced to commend Orsino for trying to avoid it.
"Genocide" isn't genocide when the people you're killing are monsters. It's no coincidence that so many mages were suddenly able to effectively use blood magic, summon shades and demons, and immediately become abominations.
The Keeper allowed herself to be possessed to save Merrill from the fate I just described. The demon could have possessed Merrill through the Eluvian.According to the word of the demon alone, whom many find oddly trustworthy.

Well, she never got possessed or endangered anyone in Kirkwall, so...
She knowingly was dealing with a demon, and a Pride demon at that. Just because she didn't get herself possessed doesn't mean that she was being responsible. Dealing with a demon is in and of itself irresponsible. She could have gotten herself possessed at any time and if it wasn't for Hawke being there, said demon would have been a danger to many when it possessed Merithari (although, that's a whole different brand of stupid on her part.)
Merril was in no way being responsible.
Edit: Besides this though, I don't hate Merril. She was alright.

Note that you kill all of those in the mage ending too. You deal with non-templar problems equally firmly in both paths. I find this extremely unlikely. The Keeper allowed herself to be possessed to save Merrill from the fate I just described. The demon could have possessed Merrill through the Eluvian.
She spoke with the demon once, to learn blood magic, which worked out perfectly insofar as she was able to cleanse the Eluvian shard. And the demon would have gotten to Marethari as long as Marethari was camping directly on top of the damned thing. She knowingly was dealing with a demon, and a Pride demon at that. Just

It doesn't matter that she only spoke to it once, the fact that she spoke to it at all is irresponsible. Plus she was going to go speak to it again becasue she still couldn't get the mirror to work and she was getting desperate. Like I said, she could have gotten herself possessed at any time.

In the former case, she only wants you to talk to Torpor without instantly killing it. In the latter case, there's literally nothing the hunger demon can do to you aside from attack (and if you're aggressive, you can intimidate it into leaving and basically get a free deal).Arcane Warrior Mage Hawke wrote...

Unfortunately, evil blood mages don't come with convenient labels in-universe, and there's no time for due process. The Rite of Annulment is definitely a terrible tragedy when it happens, but for once Meredith was right: it had to be done.
Hell, the only reason my Grey Warden saved the Circle was because he really didn't give a **** about blood magic or abominations, he just needed an army of fireball shooters. The Blight would have killed everybody long before a few dozen rogue mages would.
