Well, it does whisper and let off a presence that makes those exposed to it worship the substance and eventually go crazy.

And whom is to say that like the Reaper Control signal it cannot be harnessed?

And the Sheen is strong in me :P

You have my sympathy for what you unintentionally started here.

For what it's worth, I see you as Obi-Wan Kenobi's younger, non-Force sensitive cousin.

I don't even get the Force? How rude!

The beard makes up for it.

Hmmm, Kenobi's do seem to produce some rather attractive beards.

That they do.

Out of curiosity, your userpic:  DA:O or DAII?

In my eye? Mages aren't part of Humanity, regardless of their species of orgin.

They are cursed with something that requires measures to guard against that would never be needed if they were truely a part of humanity.

And i personally find the usage of "Mundane" as insulting as hell personally, like having access to the power of magic at the cost of possibly becoming a demonic plaything at the drop of a hat some how makes them superior.
How are mages not a part of humanity, ****** them do they not bleed, by trying to remove them from humanity's equation and trying to establish them cursed it is dehumanizing making them  something to belittle and torture and feel no sympathy for.
They are not humans because they cannot be humans, Its merely a matter of perspective and one i personally think to be for the best. If they are not humans then there can be no common ground between them and the mases outside the circle for there cannot be any common ground, one is a dangerous threat to the other after all.

Its not as if i am stating to keep the populace completely in the dark of the dangers or the characistics of being a mage, no after all ignorance is the very reason some mages seem overly compelling and dispell the illusion of the "downtrodden" mage once must do so with truth.

No they are beings to be pitied, not revilved for they cannot help their curse nor their stupidity in its use.

They are a useful asset and therefore something to be under state control and to be used at the state's Whim, In this one insistance i think the Qunari have something right.

But they cannot live outside of their guilded cages.

Yeah...That didn't stop reborn Palpatine from literally shoving Luke Skywalker through a solid Durasteel wall with force enhanced strength, hefting the dying Jedi Master up by the throat and stating that this was a battle he could not win, should not have even attempted because he lacked a grasp of just how strong the Darkside was.

And coming from a living force nexus? You kinda take those things to heart.

Magic is a tool and therefore by the extension of that logic; Mages are tools.

Its a simple conclusion and one that most of Thedas agrees with, Its something i see no reason to change, after all when 90% of the known world lives in Serfdom and servitude. You tend to understand the world around isn't going to change and really doesn't need to change.

So why should mages live outside of societial norms when they are as you said merely humans with a connection to the fade? should they be subject to the nature or their world or live inside yet another guilded cage so they don't throw tantrums?

I fell in love with alot of the classic EU but i cannot deny it has been slipping down a slope of failures for more then a decade now.

Still i consider MOST of it Canon, My perspective is this.

If Lucas back when he owned the rights to SW didn't want to acknowledge it as canon then he shouldn't have taken their money when they went and bought the usage of the licease.

By that logic, all Thedasians are tools because hands are tools. They grip, hit, squeeze, twist, etc.

Yeah no, Sidious would be a Templar obviously.

Cooler Armor, Neater orginization and has a underlying sinister tone.

<_< the Jedi greedy, and Hypocrictical as they are would be the mages.

And indeed as i just said most of them are.

Unless if you are nobility you are sort of screwed in the Fuedal system unless if you rise to nobility or wealth yourself.

Nonsense, the Sith want to use their gifts to rule over the galaxy. They're obviously Tevinters. The Jedi, for all their faults, are the best defense against the Dark Side the Galaxy has. It is the Circle/Templars.

You mean he very same system that was overthrown by those 'tools'? The same kind of system the mages are trying to overthrow for the very same reason? Hmm, I wonder if there's a connection between the two.

I get the whole "Mages shouldn't have no supervision" argument, but calling mages for lack of a better term subhumans is too far the other direction. It's that mindset that got Thedas in this situation in the first place. The best option is to find a way to keep the mages from creating another Tevinter without removing their humanity in the process. And with both sides in shambles from the current war, we're in exactly the perfect situation to do so.

<.< "Valid" Cause huh?

You mean the freedom to allow Demons unhindered access to mages and for the risk presented by that to go unheeded until a local lord summons his army and kills the abomination?

Surely you recognize the need for the circle, some barrier between humanity and mages?

When a mage graduates from the Circle I don't see any reason why the mages need to continue to be locked away when they could be useful in society.

I disagree.  It's not too bad at all.  It's wonderful that the Star Wars EU is being obliterated.

I would gladly kill the rare decent short story to kill the cancer that is the Star Wars EU.  And the abomination that franchise's out of movie works has become was probably a mage's fault.

Maybe. But that doesn't seem to be an actual issue with the circles. Mages like Wilhelm, despite reports of his general jerknesss not withstanding, was able to live in honnoleth, raise a family, have a home, work for the arl, and all other things while still being part of the circle.

Some of the EU books are really good though and I hope stay canon. The Grand Admiral Thrawn Trilogy comes to mind.
