Good question, but it seems as if their not so picky when it comes to possession. One didn't seem to mind when it possessed that one templar from DA2.

That would make sense for more powerful demons with better reasoning capabilities. Aside from that, most are desperate and/or primitive enough to take whatever body they can get, or we wouldn't have examples of them possessing corpses and inanimate objects.

Hawke and his companions plus Knight-Captain Cullen murdered that poor  innocent posssessed templar. They're all monsters! I've reported them to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Demons to deal with this matter

And what would the Spirits/ Demons do if they were all freed into the Mortal world. The ones who don't go crazy are the ones whose whole existence is revolved around one aspect of humanity. You have beings of Rage, Lust, Pride just roaming the countryside, practicing their namesake and I don't think that's good news for mages or the anyone else in Thedas. Unless...

You aren't hoping for a Mass Effect 3 Synthesis ending, where the Inquisitor sacrifices themselves by introducing their energy into the Veil Tear and the resulting chain reaction combines Mortals and Spirits into a new framework, where Mortals will become mages and the Spirits will have full understanding of humanity?

I suddenly do not want to get DAI anymore... Or any Bioware game for that matter

As far as I recall, that demon was put inside that templar BY FORCE after DAYS of MAGICAL TORTURE  by BLOOD MAGIC.

I mean - totally justified (to some), because he's a mage and they're templars... but still, I think he did kill some.

He killed some templars and Grey Warden in his short story.

So yes, he was a traitor (Grey Wardens) and a murderer(Templars, Grey Wardens) and a criminal (breaking and entering, assault, murder, attempted theft) before he came to Kirkwall.
