None of that says that they gain all the same abilities as blood mages. Mostly because blood mages are mages. They also can't control other peoples' minds or sacrifice others peoples' lives to create a massively destructive spell.

There's also the fact that becoming a Reaver involves dragon's blood. Which isn't that common.

Reavers can drain a person's life force.

Not the same way or for the same potential destructive ends as a blood mage.

A normal mage can do that. To be able to do so, is not blood magic.

You can do a lot of horrific things with normal magic. The key difference is that it requires lyrium, which the chantry controls. Blood magic is banned (not only because it can do stuff like control minds) but also because it is impossible to control.

Well, that and it seems to raise the possibility of being possessed by a lot.

You can cast magic without Lyrium.

With more dragons filling the skies during the period of DAI this may change. one reaver is bad enough an entire army of combat Sadomasochist is something that is downright chilling. its one of those stupidities  of the chantry that they only focus on mages. Fenris is a being that for all purposes should be locked up in the circle yet the chantry ignores it.

You only now start to notice that the circle is filled  with magic that the templars can shutdown?

You're confusing a rumour for truth again.

Tbh if Calenhad were alive then the Chantry would have him executed for using blood magic,To them everything that involves blood is evil.

Except there's no proof he was a Reaver at all.

No,if Calenhad was'nt a reaver then Marric would'nt have been captured and hooked up to a magical artifact to power up a Dreamer's powers.

I am not enitirely sure. Considering this idea has been advocated by Sten and Yavanna, I don't think that it is far fetched.

Get back to me when Reavers are summoning demons, becoming abominations, and tearing the veil to pieces.

Kolgrim could create ash wraiths, so that seems to be one down. And they might not be abominations, but they can control dragons to some extent, which seems rather formidable.

They don't control the dragons. Its implied that the dragons control them.

The high dragon might, but I don't think the lesser ones are intelligent enough to do so... and it's the reavers who are maintaining the dragon nests.

Pretty sure that was the mage with him.

Eirik? The codex entry talking about the creation of ash wraiths doesn't mention him or any other mages, just how Kolgrim could make them.

In order to gain the skill of a Reaver don't one must make a dangerous deal with a demon?

Or per DA2's description, as well as both Sten and Yavanna's accounts, you can do the same through the drinking of dragon/wyvern blood.

To my knowledge it has always been dragon's blood. Even in Origins you fight Reavers primarily in Haven.
