Look like he's a wearing a Seeker ring, so I think typical politics and civil wars are the least of their concerns. This is the Chantry equivalent of a Spectre or Warden.

Seekers, Circle, Templars, unknown(thought to be Tevinter or Inquisition), and a fifth on the thumb. People are thinking the rings either symbolize origin options, or factions we'll recruit/deal with.

The dragon imagery can't possibly have anything to do with the game being called Dragon Age, right?

The design is kind of reminscent of something Spanish/Navvaran like though. If you recall, the Pentaghasts wiped most of the dragons out before (until this age). So I think there's a specific legacy it's pointing to.

I'd rather still be Orlesian, the stakes of the Orlesian Civil War become more relevant. Nevarrans have no real stakes in the fate of Orlais considering they're rival nations.

I'm curious to see how they would handle the languages issue in this game. If the PC is an Orlesian, it would be odd if he/she speaks accented English/common tongue/whatever it's called to every fellow Orlesian when they ought to be speaking in their native French-sounding tongue to each other. I wouldn't be surprised if the PC has been deliberately written to be foreign to Orlais so there's an excuse for him/her to be speaking English to everyone.

The alternative would probably be something like the Cipher, where the player can understand it and it's played in English, even though it's quasi-French gibberish for everyone else.

Uh... Don't Nevarrans have German accents? Or whatever Cassandra has? I'd rather be Orlesian in that case.

Her accent is just kind of unrecognizably "exotic". Or something.

If it was German, she'd probably be from the Anderfels.

Huh. I always thought the Anderfels were based off Russia for some reason.

It sounded German to me too. We had a foreign exchange student when I was in high school who lived with us that was from Saxony. Cassandra sounds a LOT like her. Glad someone else heard it -- everyone I've mentioned it to up till now acted like I was crazy. Image IPB

@ OP - the lore does suggest that there are a lot of Pentaghasts running around, so I think you might be on to something. But mostly because it would be a cool way to start out with a realistic level of expertise, connections, and reason to end up starting on a mission (plus easy last name for NPC's to call us, if we can expect that to happen again). The dragon thing is... maybe not the most reliable clue since we see dragon stuff everywhere in the games, and it was a marketing shot for "Dragon Age." :)

Based on the dragon-esque design elements of the blade and helmet in the above photos, I believe the Inquisitor will be from Nevarra, a place that is home of the Pentaghast family who are known for hunting dragons. Perhaps the player will be related to Cassandra?  I might be thinking too much into this but lets discuss.

or maybe he/she is from Tevinter...who knows

but i personaly do not want to be related with Cassandra family(and all members of those are already dead as we see in anime)...and Cassandra actually is just from Penthaghast Clan(like many Nevarans) not from a roal family-Reavers who rule Nevarra....and she would never serve to Orlais Chantry and be right hand of Divine and hate mages....Nevarra is a kingdom who hate Orlais and have different Chantry and free influential mages who work closely to the Kings, nobles and use blood magic/necromancy...they are in many cases close to Tevinter and Rivain

I like the idea of being related to Cassandra, hehe all the more reason to play as a mage hehe

you know maybe the dragon sword is taking over the blood dragons spot.

While this is a plausible and interresting idea I think the dragon themed armor and sword might have a simpler explanation; namely that the game is called DRAGON Age: Inquisition.

I wouldn't be against being a Nevarran though, as long as we are not part of the Pentaghast family. By fall 2014 I will have waited too long not to be able to romance Cassandra, damnit!

The Pentaghast clan is the royal familly of Nevarra. When you have been in charge for over 700 years you end up with lots of branches. For all we know, Cassandra could be related quite closely to the current king and his brother. We don't have enough information about her to know either way, well minus the fact that the king brother is a dragon hunter and that she is as well.

As for being in the Orlesian Chantry, there is only 2 Chantries and the Orlesian one is the one that is followed in Nevarra and most of Thedas (The Black Chantry is only in Tevinter). We don't know how she joined the Chantry either, she could be a "political hostage" to make sure Nevarra keeps their Mortalitasi in check for all we know. As for necromancy, we have no proof that Nevarran practice it, they do like death...a lot. Even Cassandra, she keep a nice little skull with her (see the war room scene in the trailer).

Also, Cassandra didn't hate mages the same way Templars hate mages. It was blind revenge, not fear. And that desire for revenge didn't stop her from saying that Circle mages could do with more power (in a discussion with Galyan, in DotS).

An interesting and very plausible theory. I certainly wouldn't mind playing a Nevarran.

Very interesting theory ! Perhaps the red ring symbolizes the group from which the protagonist come, so yes, a group of dragonslayer probably. The others rings symbolize maybe the multiples alliances he could make during the game?

The veil is torn, a bunch of dragons are poping everywhere, so who you are gonna call ? ...
