Anyone else going to wait for user reviews before buying this?

Because holding off on buying ME3 was one of the wisest business decisions I've made lately. After being burned by DA2 and TOR, I couldn't justify buying ME3 day 1. Same goes with this.

I want DA3 to be good. I would love it to be as good or better than DA:O. But frankly, professional reviewers have long-since proven that they overinflate their reviews for AAA titles. I doubt alot of those people who like DA2 more than DA:O would agree that DA2 deserved the 9.5/10s it got. And while I also don't think DA2 deserves the 2/10s it got from users on metacritic, they were definitely an indicator that DA2 didn't live up to people's expectations. That' why in cases like this, I cant justify buying DA3 before looking at user reviews.

Anyone else think this way?

I have no doubts many agree with your take on the matter.

I, however, am not one of them. Dragon Age II entertained me well enough despite the numerous flaws and clear inferiority compared to its predecessor, which I enjoyed immensely. All in all, the DA team hasn't given me enough disappointment for me to disconsider the possibility of acquiring their next game at day one.

That being said, they can certainly make decisions that, once announced, would steer me away from DA:I, as sad as the thought makes me.

As the saying goes: Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

I'll be waiting for the more "independent" reviews and avoiding IGN, Destroid , Gamespot and so forth like the black plague.

No. Because their opinions may differ from mine on what is good or not. Playing after seeing that will probably influence what I expect when I play. I prefer to go in, not knowing anything and I have enough confidence in Bioware and Dragon age in general,  that I would say there will be much I would enjoy about it, enough to buy without seeing any of that.

Day one purchase (collector's if available). Enjoyed both previous DA, this one should be no different.

Nope. Even though I generally disliked many things about Dragon Age 2, it still offered what I enjoy in RPGs. There are no other developers out there that make RPGs similar to BioWare, which is why even subpar games like Dragon Age 2 (in my own opinion) are still levels above other RPGs like Skyrim, The Witcher, etc. (which I do enjoy playing).

I would still recommend buying Mass Effect 3 at some point, as even though the ending (if you play PC, you can use the happy ending mod) is rather lackluster... I enjoyed every bit of content and DLC they released for it and I primarily hate any type of shooters. Try to find it on sell real cheap and pick it up, I'm sure you will not be disappointed until the end. ;p

I actually loved SW:TOR, I have seven characters at max level and loved the class stories on most of them. I just PvP'd in the game, so I know the frustration of players wanting to do PvE content.

No, because other users are usually wrong. I will play the game myself and draw my own conclusions based on my own experiences.

I would had phrase it more sarcastically but well said.

Well that's why it's wiser to look at a large amount of reviews and get a good idea of what their problems with the game are.

If their problems with the game are things that you have no problem with, then I don't see how it can dissuade you from buying a game that you may actually like.

Nope. I've enjoyed all DA and ME games, and I don't expect this one to be any less entertaining. DA2 and ME3 weren't nearly as disappointing to me as it seems they were to the majority of BSN users, so I don't feel betrayed or fooled by Bioware.

Not really. I'll look up user reviews, sure, but ultimately by the time I do that, my personal opinion on the game will already be fully formed.

I visit this forum on a daily basis. I follow the twitter thread, read developer forum posts; in future I will watch the reveal, interviews, press conferences, panels, presentations, etc... Hopefully, they'll also release a playable demo.

There is more than a year until the game is released, so I think there will be plenty of opportunities for me to look for potential 'warning signs'. I think it's safe to say I'll be informed enough to decide for myself if the game is for me or not.

Basically I don't need other's opinions, there is enough of dragon age that I enjoy....enough so much that anything else I can draw my own conclusions when I play.

I'll probably be pre-ordering whatever swag-infested collector's edition is available (and complaining that I can't afford enough copies to get all the vendor-specific bonus items).  Not that I expect anyone else to do the same if they're feeling "burned" for whatever reason.

That's the plan so far, although if they used the extra year to add in race options I would preorder. Otherwise I'll wait for fan reviews and take an average. I also want to hear Angry Joe's opinion.

you just need to find a reviewer that has the same sort of views in games,

Try angeryjoe, at least for me he seems look at it the same way I do, And yes he gave positive reviews for DA2. If I remember right, he said, that it was abit weaker than the orgins but still a good game.

The DA series I don't really mind buying day 1 (may not because of cost issues on my end)

however I will be waiting for reviewers for The Next Mass Effect game.

I think I'll wait a bit and see what people who I trust have to say about the game. Most "users" are just as bad as professional reviewers when it comes to a lot of things. Though I did share a similar opinion with them on the end of Mass Effect 3, but not with Dragon Age 2.

A 9/10 on IGN or any other website is useless, they play a game for 10 minutes and give it a number based on it's name and who makes it.

Same here. Will probably wait for the price to drop as well.

I'll pre order it. I enjoyed the other two so I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy this.
I like to experience something before I read what problems people have with it. Life is more fun that way. For me, anyway.

A bit off-topic but...what's the point of preordering? When's the last time a game, even a new AAA title, was sold out at any major store?

I enjoyed DA:O. Loved DA2 and the ME series. I intend to pre-order DA3.

To address this:

Preordering is something about the convenience - being able to have the game mailed to you or be available for download right away. Some folks may not like the major retailers or game stores in their vicinity, and would prefer to purchase from a different entity.

Certainly not. Considering what happened with DA2, and what I've seen since going around on the internet as a consequence, there will be way too much bias for me to trust any user review to be objective. Rampant negativity is very much still around.

There's also the fact I've been burned before by user reviews and passed on games I eventually enjoyed a lot when I got to play them (opposite's also true).

There are certain persons I would trust to be both unbiased and roughly have the same expectations as me (including some on this very board), but by then, I'll have played the game and made my own mind by myself.

That's the rationalization. The truth? They had me at "Dragon Age" anyway. So I'm taking the risk and pre-ordering - if there's any risk, since I don't either consider having been "fooled" by DA2.

^This!

I got the DAO CE and pre-ordered DA2 and I didn't regret it. I enjoyed and still enjoy both products, I don't see why I should be wary of DAI.

After initially boycotting DA2, I waited until it was $7 and bought it. I realized my error when I found that despite the horrid combat animations and inferior style, it was a very entertaining game. I will not make the same mistake and will even pre-order DAI.
