Anyone else going to wait for user reviews before buying this?

I love the world of dragon age too much.
Origins is one of my favourite games and one of my most played.
I HAVE TO get this game no matter how bad the reviews are.
I have too much history and love for the franchise.

There's a difference between falling for a franchise and pre-ordering out of (admitted) blind love and condoning sleazy business practices such as micro-transactions.imbs wrote...
Pre-ordering at this point seems pretty stupid. It's impossible to gauge how good DAI will be as of right now, and their recent games have been completely inconsistent. The marks in this thread are exactly the reason things like Day 1 DLC and micro-transactions fly.
In the end, though, it's our money; we use it as we see fit. No need to be all judgmental about it and pretend we're traitors - or gullilble suckers - working against the Holy Gamer True Cause, yeah? I actually find it puzzling that we have to explain and justify ourselves on the topic.

But I loved Origins and Dragon Age 2. (For that matter, I enjoy The Old Republic as well.) Unless they release information that suggests it's going to be different from the previous games in the series in ways I disapprove of, why wouldn't I assume I'll love DAI too?
(I haven't played any of the Mass Effect games, so I don't care about that.)

Amusing post. The traitor thing is particularly ironic, considering that that is exactly the type of thing mindless fans often say of people who decide not to pre-order items of a particular franchise before there is *any* information available whatsoever.
Mindlessly pre-ordering sequels to games like that has been masquerading as loyalty for years. It's the same everywhere.
Bioware could literally make an absolutely mediocre game, sell it to you people for 40 quid and that wouldn't even be the end of it. You would defend said game no matter how rushed or shoddy it was, and you would probably be ready to pre-order the next game.
You don't have to defend yourselves at all; it is indeed your money. I am merely voicing my opinion that such practises are the height of stupidity. It's the reason why COD does so well after all. I take my hat off to companies who are smart enough to exploit it.

I said something like that before, about another game franchise. Ultima, it was called.Stjerne wrote...

I was like that for Mass Effect 3.

Nope. I stopped looking at reviews, professional or user reviews, ages ago. If a game interests me, I'll get it. End of story. Why should I let he opinions of others color my enjoyment of a game?

True enough, that is why I tend to avoid BSN for a while before and after a new game comes out, so I have enough had time to fully take it in and form my own opinion.

I hope the DA:I does better, but I won't put blind faith into that prospect. To be fair, though, I rarely buy a game on the first day anyways, no matter how promising the game.

Even though I was a little disappointed by da2 and very disappointed by me3, with the number of amazing games bioware has produced the odds are still in their favour

Spider-Man 3 was a shockingly bad movie, in my opinion, and didn't live up to the promises of a fantastic story with deep and sympathetic villians. Doesn't mean I get to demand the producer refunds my movie ticket. I choose to see the movie in cinema. The fact I didn't LIKE the movie doesn't mean I didn't get the opportunity to sit for two hours and watch actors playing roles. I got what I paid for.
When Spider-Man 3 came out a bunch of people told me that Peter Parker does a silly emo dance and it's just awful and the rest of the movie is too. So I avoided the movie. Word of mouth is a wonderful thing. Thus word of mouth is one of the things I'll use to gauge whether I'll buy another Bioware game in the future.
That said I do actually buy or watch stuff based on negative reviews sometimes. If someone complains about a movie having a bunch of dumb pulpy stuff that it sounds like I might actually like I'll go see it.

Closed-minded extremists are everywhere, on every side. You don't see anyone here claiming surprise or asking people why they won't pre-order, though, be it in this thread or any pre-order / wait for reviews related ones. Hence my puzzlement.imbs wrote...

Can't speak for others, but I'm not pre-ordering out of loyalty. I'm pre-ordering out of love for the franchise - its world, setting and characters - and because, so far, I have not been "burned" or "disappointed". Let's just say that there's 90% chance that I'll like the game, 60% that I'll love it, and that's enough for me. Also - and this is important - pre-orders can be cancelled in case of catastrophe. It's not as though we sign a contract in blood and promise our soul.Mindlessly pre-ordering sequels to games like that has been masquerading as loyalty for years. It's the same everywhere.
Nope. I've criticized DA2. A lot. I've even criticized DAO (a little). Loving something or liking something doesn't mean being blind to its flaws. If DA:I is really bad, then I won't be pre-ordering the next one, and I'll wait for a price drop before buying. Also, you shouldn't assume what I (or others) would do, based only on my pre-ordering. That's a very close-minded view of things.Bioware could literally make an absolutely mediocre game, sell it to you people for 40 quid and that wouldn't even be the end of it. You would defend said game no matter how rushed or shoddy it was, and you would probably be ready to pre-order the next game.
Ah. The mandatory hyperbole. There are many things that can be qualified as "the height of stupidity". Pre-ordering a game, for whatever reason, isn't one of them. It's not wise, obviously, but being unwise is good sometimes, especially when the worst consequence is not liking the game. I think I can survive that. You don't have to defend yourselves at all; it is indeed your money. I am merely voicing my opinion that such practises are the height of stupidity. Because let's face it, every single review ever written is laden with bias. It's a natural thing as all, so all professional reviewers to bloggers to entertainers are lying to you if they believe they are being unbias. Hell, I have said that before and I admit I am biased to you all.
However, there is a difference between bias and tact. If you hate the company, but like the game, you talk about that. If you think the game is mediocre but still good, you need to convey that. Few people can do so without resorting to the bullet-point lists we see all the time, and worse yet, most people assume their word is gospel as well.
So I guess my point is this; if you want to wait for user reviews, go for it. It makes no difference in the end though because you are basically trading one opinion for another. The only difference is you know the more professional reviewers are at least more tactful in presenting their biasedness. They may suck at stating it, which is something that angers me, but its something to keep in mind.

But I probably won't. I have too much passion invested in DA, both in DA:Origin and as ****ing on BSN about DA2.
I just have to have DA:I. Even if it's bad. I know it in my heart. Only thing that can stop me would be some new unpleasentries in Origin.
Overall, I think the teaser trailer and various news has put a new, giddy euphoria in my chest. I think this will be good.

Funny thing, I know some exact same thing happened to me a long time ago. The movie was "crap" they said. So I didn't see it. For some years. Eventually I was forced to. Turned out the movie was totally awesome. Don't trust friends. Specially not the kind that goes "emo" this and "emo" that.

Whether its a 9/10 game or just a 7/10 game I will have fun with it and so it will be a day 1 buy. Bioware has never made a game I actually disliked, ME3 in its initial release was a bit of a let down at the end, but the free DLC made up for it, and even with the 'poor' ending it was still a good game. So rather than run around hysterically I will calmly await the release, buy it, and get my moneys worth out of it. Afterall, Bioware's poorer efforts are better than many other developer's better efforts.
