Suppose that the choices you made in ME1 and ME2 mattered so much that, depending on what you did in those first two games, it might make it impossible to beat the Reapers in ME3.  In other words the best you would be able to acheive is the deployment of the Liara Beacons © so the next cycle might be able to defeat the Reapers.  Would you still play and/or like that game (or series of games)?
