ME2: the Horizon mission in general. Why didn't the Normandy blast the Collector ship while it was landed. The Normandy had its Thanix cannon upgrade. The Normandy had its new armor. The Collector ship was a sitting duck.
Hence every line spoken groundside was a facepalm.
Shepard: EDI get the defense towers online. <_<
Why not this before landing...
Shepard: EDI get a fix on the Collector ship. Joker, bring the Normandy about and hit the Collector ship with the main gun.
With all due respect, I must disagree on this one…if the Normandy would’ve blown up the Collector ship while it was landed, the resulting explosion for sure would’ve wiped out the whole colony along with the VS, not to mention the colonists already on board.
The reason Shep went groundside was to save as many colonists as possible.
Really? Yet, they were hoping to blow it up with the defense towers, not merely frighten it. If that would have wiped out the colony, it would have killed Shepard. It was about a km away. Forget the colonists on board. They were as good as dead anyway. None have ever been recovered. So I play a pragmatic Shepard.
You have to admit that the idea of blowing up that ship has weight. It has Krogan influence. But The Illusive Man wanted Derperus to ride in and save the day for propaganda purposes, nothing more.
What about blowing up the "dead in space" Collector Ship, then? It was an obvious trap. No Turian scout ship could have disabled it. Shepard derpped on that one. Oh, let's find their home world and gather intel. You know you need something special to get through the Omega 4 Relay and survive. You don't know where it leads, but who cares? You're going there anyway. Blow up the ship. I'm sure you'll find something like an IFF among the wreckage. Another plot derp.
