The chevaliers would have a harder time justifying their privilege as it does not grant them the power Blood Magic does and the chaos in Inquisition is enough for the system protecting them from retribution to be broken.
I also get the feeling that if either Celene or Gaspard bans chevalier brutality, they're going to get the throne thanks to using that proclamation and their personal Bard network to spread that as propaganda.
I do not see anyone in Tevinter objecting to slavery in large enough numbers to make ending slavery desirable for the ruling Magisters, however. Except for the slaves, of course. But the Senate always bands together to put slave revolts down.

well to be fair people seem to be happy in antiva from what we hear (I only played the games not read the books). and the alienages are bad everywhere and according to the lady who told us about the chevaliers so called privelages she tells the warden (if he is a city elf origin warden) that elves are treated even worse in orlaisFaWa wrote...
The Elven Alienages in Ferelden
The Casteless Dwarves in Orzammar
The Slaves in Tevinter
The trainwreck that is Antiva
Also lets remember the Templars have no problem imprisoning the mages in non-Tevinter places.

if your talking about how the guards were involved it was not just that but that a crap load of them marched into the alienage and grabbed the women in front of a priest. it wasn't just a few guards cause there is always guards that are corrupt or sick but the amount that walked in there and just grabbed the women and dragged them through the streets to the palace and I imagine at least a few were screaming and begging them to let them go and they didn't let them goQyla wrote...
Yea, I felt sick just listening to them. If Duncan didn't step in our warden would be killed for sure.

I wonder what the priest did after the kidnapping. I didn't see any templar ready to punish the evil.

Outside of Kirkwall i doubt the Templars have the legal authority to arrest a mundane in non mage related crimes. Considering that Vaughn is nobility i wouldn't be surprised if his father bribed Denerim's guardsmen.Qyla wrote...

Save poor women would have been enaugh for me. If a templar was involved I doubt guardsmen would be that easy to bribe

Then it wouldn't be Tevinter without blood magic and slavery now would it?
Edit: And since you don't need human sacrifice to do a lot of blood magic (like violating someone's mind) anyway I would still consider it a terrible country.
Right now it's almost as terrible as the Qunari lands.

It also wouldn't be the Imperium anymore without the blood magic and slavery.

Edit: And Ferelden. Ferelden works at being a pillar of morality, which puts them that far ahead in that direction. So Tevinter is slightly worse even if they don't draw blood from slaves.

Thedas follows the way of nature - the strongest survives. Nothing evil about that.
There isn't a clear strongest though. That's sort of been the see-sawing theme of Thedas. Maybe the closest was Andraste's armies for a second, but they got weakened by betrayal, not strength. Seems that since then the power is fairly equal between most entities, except the Elves. Orlais, Fereldan, Tevinter, Qunari, Free Marches.. they're all standing in place, not making many inroads (besides maybe Fereldan).

I mean the way inside society works. Slavery and such.

Fair enough. I would point out though that the way it works here has no comparison to nature. It's definitely about strength, but not following nature. Strength in Tevinter is tied more to the supernatural. Slavery is almost instrinsically tied to blood magic in Tevinter.

Orlais seems to follow the actual medieval structure of the nobles being a power unto themselves...Random commoner rapes another commoner and the city/town/village handle it themselves I wager.
Take Westeros for example....if any member of the great houses raped a commoner, you think any of the their fellow nobles would even bat an eyelash?
Now, if a female noble was raped, THEN you're talking straight up war.
