There is a city that's observable in the Fade, but we have no evidence that it ever looked anything other than what it does now. We can't look at it now and say for certain that it's a "black" city. So, we don't really know if it's always looked as it does now and people were told or assumed this whole "golden" thing. It's possible there were written records, but we have no evidence of them. That's sort of my point. We only have two dubious sources of information on this topic.

Ah, I get it now. Yes, that's plausible ... but I think based on what we see in DA:O in the fade, at least, the object just doesn't look like the sort of thing one would describe as "Golden".

I always sort of thought the whole Golden/Black part of it may not be literal. That the "golden" in Corypheus's view could be taken for power, the Chantry's view for purity, and the "black" be taken for corruption. But seen in the Fade could translate as something literal like that. That's just an opinion though and you know what they say about those.

I know the Cult of the Maker was supposed to predate Andraste, but do you know by how much? I've not been able to find anything on it, and I think it ties directly to what I think the city could actually be.

Slavery is not evil. And doesn't make Tevinter evil. And evil is just a point of view - when Tevinter kicks Qunari, they doing good for all the rest of Thedas, but when they sacrifice hundred children for blood ritual, they are the bad guys. There is no such thing as black and white, only shades of grey.

I have a difficult time thinking of any moral metric whereby sacrificing a hundred children is not evil. Utilitarianism, yeah, if the childrens' lives are going to a good cause, but knowing the Tevinters that is by no means a safe assumption.

Moral relativism is another system of mass control - the opiate of the modern secularist if you will.

I... don't see how. Especially since I'm not a moral relativist despite being a modern secularist.

I like tevinter the way they are-maybe bcoz of their glorious past. Getting rid of slaves takes the fun part out. I think inwardly i hope bioware gives players a chance to rebuild the legacy of tevinter, a bit like how barbarossa rebuilt charlemagne's legacy of the holy roman empire, in future sequels.

Unfortuanately, it seems many religious fanatics are fine with implementing moral relativisim.

....and moral absolutism the delusion of the self-righteous. "Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd" (Voltaire).

Actually, my position is in-between - see my post on the previous page - but I usually side with the relativists because the absolutists usually use their absolutism as an excuse to be intolerant. Some judgments of "good" or "evil" may be common to almost all humans, but that still doesn't change the fact that "good" or "evil" are never attributes but always attributitions.

You know its possible to do blood magic without slavery, Tevinter seems to have may social ills, Blood magic an Slavery are just the ones that are the most horrific.
