- ME3: Facing a ton of Brutes trying to activate a couple of [whatever] in order to summon Kalros to take out the Reaper destroyer. Hard as hell.

Tip: don't fire a shot.  Just run for your life, and activate the hammers.

It's even easier if you're an infiltrator. You just have to avoid getting stomped on by the reaper destroyer.

Its more a matter of endurance, I for now have failed a few times to beat the entire series without dying in a row on hardcore.
Mass effect 1 it was being one shot by a big robot.(playing without overpowered immunity)
Mass effect 2 Pyros being jumped by a pyro on zaheed mission.
Mass effect 3 Oneshot by an Harvester and being jumped by an armored mook on the citadel dlc

I still have hope.

Are you high...?

I know mass effect 3 is a pain to play, which is why i am planning to try this again only in five years or more.

I cant play past virmire on me1.

I like to be immersed in my rpgs. and not dying throught the playthrough is part of it.
I may have to encounter in life-death situation in the future.
involving rifles and pistols which is why i attempt to train my senses to stay sharp at all of the time.

Put that asides, mass effect 1+2 are terrific games :-)

Jack kick ass on all of the diffculties, you just have to strip your enemies armor-barriers for her to shine through. it makes the husks so much easier to deal with. and you tend to have a lot more ammo because of it.

Most of mine are from ME2 on insanity. No particular order. Although I will say Collector ship is probably the hardest with Horizon right there too.

Horizon- ME2

Collector Ship- ME2

Arcangel Recruting Mission- ME2

Krogan Battle Master on Therum- ME1

Vasir in Shadow Broker- ME2.

Honorable mention would probably be Clone Shep in Citadel DLC. I guess armax arena stuff, but I can't really count that has it's not real in terms of story content. And it's just sort of there, you know what I mean.

people are serious when they say marauder shields? -.-

At most I imagine he would only stop you 10 times in a row.
It's fast enough deaths so it is not the hardest in my book.

If people are trolling....well played, if not then....

...I never found it hard. I've only died like once to that guy and that was because I was probably not really paying attention having played the games so many times. It's utterly easy to 3-shot that guy with headshots because the game goes into 'slo-mo'-bullet-time to line up the shot.

I'm not sure how many shots it was to the head thinking back.
And yeah it is easier if you're not playing on Insane and/or playing with EC installed.

Clone shep was really hard, it was so weird having your own moves be done on you.

The thing with the clone that he had plot armor, he had all the time in the world to use medigel and also when he did it he got his shields back up like in me2
Very hard on insanity. Saber Helps a lot with the clones.

Really, nobody remembers how tough it was to get through the drones on the moon?

Ah well, the Rannoch reaper was harder to me.

The drones on the moon were a complete arse ache, but i don't know why everyone has a problem with the krogan battlemaster on therum, every difficulty, every class, every state of play (from really early, like straight after the citadel to last mission before ilos). I think he charged me once, and it **** me up a bit, cos i was focussing on the geth first, but otherwise i don't think he's ever taken me down :/

-Horizon when you encounter the 2 scions by the defence canons as well as a mini-horde of husks.

-I found the ending to Overlord quite hard, having to take out the upload drones while trying to avoid getting bummed by the geth.

-Arming the missiles in London and getting overwhelmed by banshees.

-The little section on the derelict reaper just before you enter the core, where abominations and scions attack you on that corner, i've had to retreat quite far back to not get the MISSION CRITICAL FAILURE on that bit.

-The part on Thessia just before you reach the temple, where you have to fight off husks, marauders, swarmers and ravagers while a harvester gets you whenever you leave cover.

-On ME1 I found that Chora's Den was quite hard because you're a low level, your powers aren't worth a damn at that point and you enter a big circular room with a load of enemies behind cover, as well as a krogan and a couple of guys on the stripper stage. First time i played that level, i deaded.

If you're a soldier you're probably going to have an easier time with the Krogan on Therum, especially if you didn't do that mission first. I always go straight to Therum after Anderson hands over the Normandy to Shepard, and in my first playthrough, I was an adept, which means my biotics were largely ineffective against the Krogan, and the only weapon at my disposal was a pistol. My vanguard had an easier time, since the shotgun was better suited to dealing with him when he charged at me.

That Krogan on Therum is quite easy, even for an Engineer, if you have Wrex in your group.

My squad consisted of Wrex and Ashley, and I did this mission after a series of secondary assignments, so my Shepard had access to M5 equipment.

Not in any order:

1. Benezia fight - The warp or whatever power that gets used in that fight can completely stunlock you to death. There is even a bug with it when a second power is used, singularity maybe that will have you float right off the map.

2. ME2 Collector Ship
3. ME3 Clone cargo bay fight
4. ME2 side mission x2 - There are 2 of them that both include a badass Krogan. The first is on the planet with the green toxic fog which at the end you have to fight a Krogan with barrier, armor, health, and a shotgun while his Vorcha buddies with the missile launchers provide nice cover fire. The second is a lot like the first one but it is on a planet where we have to blow up a big red cylinder with the same type of Krogan and Vorcha trying to kill you.

5. ME2 - Garrus recruitment mission if it is done at a lower level on insanity. One of the few times that I remember getting so angry and frustrated in any game where I was tempted to lower the difficulty just to get through it.

Dr Eva with a Paladin or Scorpion.

Aside from that, definitely Mirror Match. I breezed through insanity in all three games and I've only managed to get past the first wave once.

This. I tried for almost an hour with the claymore and the executer. I even managed to reload and get a second shot off pretty reliably towards the end. The point I quit was when she took two claymore shots to the face and had no heath bars left, but still proceeded to stab me in the face anyways. It is even possible to kill her with one shot weapons? Because after my experiece, I want proof if you say otherwise.

- Horizon final fight: the husks, scions and several waves of Collectors + Pretorian (Insanity)
I've seen this fight in alleged Insanity runs on Youtube and you can tell when the player is really on insanity or when they have changed the difficulty for that particular part of the game.

- Benezia battle in Noveria. It was the first main plot planet I visited after Therum, it was hard but there are a few strategic points where it gets easier thanks to cover and good shooting lanes. With better weaponry and a higher level, I'm sure it wouldn't have been that tough.

-The 2nd and 3rd bunkers on the Luna Base Rogue AI mission, even on medium/hardcore these fights are really hard. On insanity, I can't even imagine.

- The Reaper on Rannoch on Insanity. Not 'incredibly' difficult, but it takes a few attempts and you get killed more easily than in other difficulty levels

------------------------------------------------------
The Armax Arena also presents really tough challenges on Insanity, like the Mirror Match. I won't include them here because it all depends on settings, but they're really, really hard.

If we're including grinds then maybe, but Mass effect 1 would have the top 5 positions and more.
