Along with the news that all of Bioware’s games will be built in DICE’s Frostbite 3 engine, the developer’s general manager Aaryn Flynn says that the work they’re doing on Dragon Age 3’s RPG systems will carry over into the next Mass Effect game and the unannounced game they’re also working on currently.

Flynn said it “makes a lot of sense” to use the Frostbite engine across all their games, “with all the investment we’re doing into Dragon Age: Inquisition, into the RPG systems, we can make good use of those and build onto them again with Mass Effect and a new IP that we want to work on as well.”

What do you think? I only copy/pasted the most important parts so do make sure to check out the article. It seems like Dragon Age Inquisition will tell us what to expect from the next Mass Effect.

I wouldn't read too much into what Dragon Age systems would look like in Mass Effect. I would think a system could be the same in an area we don't interact with and when presented to us it will be completely different.

"Meaning we could be in line to see a truly complex space RPG."

Well, that depends on how complex the new system really is. We can only tell after DA3's out.

Flynn wouldn’t confirm whether the new Mass Effect would be open-world, he said “It could. I know they’re going through their fundamental design stuff now”.

Damn, I'd love this. That is my dream game actually, a ME game in an open world (but with a better story than the Elder Scroll Games, please :D).

I agree. Mass effect with total open world freedom would be fantastic.

Plus, bigger maps will lead to more weapons being useful. I'm not a sniper, but the mad effect games have really cool sniper weaponsthat are almost totally wasted on the tight corridors and narrow, linear maps.

When you add range as a balancing factor in game play, it opens up so much.

That would have to be one great game to be as open world as Morrowind and have a better story. Make it so BioWare! ;)

What they mean is stuff like scripting, face-gen and CC software for the player and NPCs, and probably stuff like the dialogue wheel and interfacing with NPCs.

Gameplay would be totally different, but for ME, all they'd need to do is change the camera angle and add power animations since Frostbite is a shooter engine.

Frostbite is used in Need for Speed, it's not only a shooter engine.

I should clarify. I don't mean that it's just a shooter engine - just that it was designed, firstly, for a shooter, so the actual amount of work needed to regig it presumably would be a lot less for ME3 than for DAI, especially since the groundwork re: weapon physics, sounds, etc. is all laid out by DICE.

I have no expectations for Dragon Age Inquisition.
I can't even base expectations on past Bioware games.

Far to many unknowns at this point.
However, I doubt that Dragon Age and Mass Effect would be similar. Despite some similarities, both series are very different.

I'm all in favour of a more detailed rpg system in the ME series but I would have to play DA:I before I start rejoicing at this news. Having said that I have never been a fan of the DA games and thier friend/rivalry system, I think its a very clever and very realistic rpg mechanic on a conceptual level but I don't actually like having to deal with it when I am gaming, it sucks the fun out of the games for me and there is no point to playing a game if I am not having fun, it becomes to much a chore trying to keep everyone happy so the don't **** off and leave my party or die because I said something to one party member that another party member may have taken offence to.

Ah, I see. Sorry for the misunderstanding, and that is all correct.
