Hawke is a criminal (to get into Kirkwall), someone looking to get rich, etc. I love her humour, sarcasm, selfishness...

She definitely had criminal leanings. Lol. I mean, you know. She definitely saved Kirkwall from being overrun w/Qunari. And possibly any neighboring citystates. Once the Arishok had gotten a foothold in Kirkwall you know they'd branch out.
But beyond that---mage/templar war--that was a storm coming regardless.
Really DA2 reminded me of an extended Origin story for Hawke. Just because in the origin stories of DAO the situation is very similar. A set events that spirals outta control. The Warden is caught up in it, and this leads directly to them being recruited by Duncan.
Things happened to the Warden in DAO origin stories that swept the Warden and set them on a path.
The Warden's story is very much complete. Beyond complete for those Warden's that were raised from the dead for the expansion.
Hawke never got that. Which is a shame as far as I'm concerned. Ppl that liked Hawke as much as the Warden, or even more so, got shafted.

My Hawke cared very much about others. Although, she had a very hard time trying to make absolutely anything better.

Hawke>Warden as a fighter (at least mine were)
But Hawke isn't a good leader, at all. The Warden had the respect of kings, queens... Hawke... eh

Didn't mind that Hawke was flawed, either. I think she became the champion because she did sort of kill the Arishok right there in front of everyone.
She's not Shepard, and I'm okay with that.

I think that's cuz Hawke never got a chance to lead anything. I mean, Warden was a part of sum ancient, pseudo-secret society---organization. And became leader quite by default. Every one else got killed.
I loved playing Hawke. I do wish, however, that DA2 had been more...expansive. That Hawke had the opportunity to do something besides killing the Arishok.
So, I guess I'm saying that as much as I loved Hawke as a character--sarcastic ftw--I felt the story this character found themselves in was confining.
In DA2, there was nothing to lead. No meeting kings and queens. You had the Viscount's respect, but really we never got outta Kirkwall. Lol!.

A sequel, of any kind, is not always a direct continuation of a tale of a specific character, but is just as equally a continuation of a history of a world.
This leaves room for different perspectives of any given campaign setting and past histroy where some things may be a continuation of events, but are, in fact, separate stories in and among themselves.
I think players need to remain open-minded about what may or may not be included in regards to DA: Inquisition.
