I'm calling it now, Hawke's the main antagonist of DAI. Upset that no one remembers their name because of the events of Asunder, Hawke sets out to return the spotlight back to her/him by tearing the veil, and then repairing it before everyone.

One of the reasons a lot of people hate Hawke is that the plot of DA2 forces you to say and do a lot of stupid things. My favorite part was that Hawke was built up as some sort of hero, but no matter what he/she just sort of stands there dumbfounded in cutscene after cutscene where people are murdered in front of him/her. There were so many scenes in DA2 where someone would give a moustache-twirling speech before dramatically stabbing someone to death or killing them with magic, and Hawke would just sort of stand there.

The other thing is probably that people never felt like they had the sort of control over Hawke's characterization that you usually have in these sorts of games thanks to the whole three-personality-types thing.

I get DA 2 was not a favorite amongst fans, but why the Hawke hate?

Hawke:
- fail Shepard wanabe
- has crappy voice acting, female is ok
- equipied with one bad liners for every equation
- shows no emotion (broken glass has more emotion then Hawke)
- makes Marcus Phoenix from Gears of War look like Shakespeare inspired character

Maybe it's Cullen! haha xD No I don't think it's Hawke. If you analyse the body, the face is small compared to the Varric's hand and the face is cover; so it was an execution.

Varric is a good man, and every innocent killed will affect him, more on this situation when he looks surrounded by a lot of corpses.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

Hawke was more than a little dense, and showed almost no emotion. If you're going to go with a voiced protagonist, you have to commit to it, like with Shepard, who does get some personality defined on both the Paragon and Renegade side. With Hawke, the character just came across as flat.

People thought it was Hawke? I thought it was just some random soldier that died on the field.

I hope its not. I liked Hawke and would have gladly seen her back in DA:I as the player avatar.

I'd want to kill your Hawkes too. They sound terrible. Mine was incredible fun.

That said, I don't want to see him again alive or dead. If I can't play him, I don't want him in the game. Let me overhear some barroom tale of exploits of piracy on the Siren's Call 2 and I'll be happy.

And that wasn't Hawke in the cutscene. Varric's reaction would be much stronger if he found his best buddy's corpse.

If it is Hawke it would be a good thing. Not that I hate Hawke but I think Hawke dying could be very emotional and have big impact.

Hawke is one of 2 people (the Warden being the other) who Cassandra, Leliana, etc believe can end this conflict. With Hawke dying (and the Warden may already be dead) it could make way for the Inquisitor to become the last hope.

Don't believe the rumors. Varric was NOT reacting to the body like he knew the person. He was reacting to the death and destruction. Thats all that scene meant to convey and thats it.

And you know that because...?

I know this because for one thing the body is COVERED and I'm well read enough and seen alot of films to have the common sense to know what that scene was trying to convey.

the trailer was made for speculation but the majority of speculation will likely end up wrong the way it ALWAYS happens

the Warden is not dead unless you did the ultimate sacrifice. They also said never take those epilogues seriously about them disappearing and such

It looks like a female body though. I don't think it is even Hawk at all.

I don't think Hawke is dead, for several reasons.

For one thing, my brother told that he heard a rumor that Hawke is a potential antagonist in Inquisitions, depending on which sides are chosen. For instance, if Hawke is pro-Templar, but you make your Inquisitor pro-mage, they'll end up butting heads at some point. However, my brother has heard many other things, some of which are highly ridiculous, and I can't help but question whether or not these "sources" of his are voices inside his head.:?

Then there's the fact that BioWare may have originally intended Hawke to show up at the end of DAII. Varric goes off to see Hawke, and he says, "I told them everything," to which Hawke replies, "Everything?" and Varric then says, "Don't worry, I didn't tell them the part about us."

A more "structured" reason I have for believing they are alive because we haven't found a body or anything. People have been up and dissapearing without a trace for no explainable reason whatsoever. While the war between the mages and the templars is going on, something much more sinister is brewing.
The Hero of Ferelden - up and gone without a trace. The Hero of Kirkwall - missing in action.
At first I thought it was just Hawke and the Warden, that this was something Flemeth planned; she knew them both, and they both vanished. There LI's disappeared to, but I didn't really think anything of it. I mean, they're with the Warden/Hawke all the time, so it would make sense that they disappeared as well.

Then someone told me that they think more people had probably disappeared. I was skeptical, but then I remembered Velana.

Velana - has multiple outcomes, all of which involve her disappearing. Most notably, when the Keep's wall falls on her but they never find Velana's body.

However, I am still paranoid that Flemeth's behind this all.

I'm not worried OR hopeful or anything about it being Hawke or not (though I very much doubt it) I just hope whatever they write is actually good and makes sense. No way over the top forced wannabe angst like zombiemom or ME3 and also no over the top corny, out of place fanfiction type thing like ME3 Citadel DLC.

Or Assassin's Creed 3. I still lol over the fact that people say "it's Mass Effect 3 all over again." XD

I wish it were Hawke (for many of the reasons others expressed) but I don't think so. Why? Remember that DA2 was supposed to get the full expansion treatment that would finish Hawke's story and that got canned for some reason.....(yeah I'm being a little snarky). However, we were told that the major details of how Hawke's story got finished up would be carred over into DA:I and for that to happen, Hawke needs to be alive at least at first.

It is.  You get to find out how it finishes and that means Hawke needs to be alive at least at the start of DA:I.  My interpretation anyway.  Remember that Hawke's story was unfinished at the end of DA2.

Hawke is on too friendly terms with Flemeth for him/her get taken out so easily (even if Hawke doesn't think so, I think Flemeth doesn't mind Hawke).

The Warden has more potential problems in that respect. If I was to bet on one to have something to worry about, it'd be the Warden. Most people who want to kill Hawke are chumps.
