Is it possible for a cheating host to screw with my ammo supply at will?

Is it?  Is it a new form of scorewhoring?  Was just playing and any time I was outscoring the hosting Talon-wielding Valkyrie with my TSent, or even getting close once I lost the lead, my Harrier would burn through its entire ammo supply in a half dozen shots and leave me with a negative ammo count.  Had it been more sporadic, I'd have assumed one of the many bugs in the game was the culprit, but the timing of the occurrences was very suspect.  Didn't start until I had a nice lead and pretty much stopped once the host was comfortably ahead of me.

So was it just a weird bug or was it some ridiculous cheat?  I should mention that the lobby felt normal otherwise.  Laggy enough that running the pizza was a pain, but not bad enough to screw with the game that much, at least in my experience.

Probably not, any modded guns through the coalesced only effect the person using it, not the rest of the team.

I'd have to blame lag. I have a friend from the US who plays on my UK host, and his harrier gets extra ammo, even after emptying his clip, 20 or so extra bullets appear, go figure. That darn space magic.

lag causes interesting problems with ammo
so does modding certain things in the coalesced
these are problesm that often only show up later on in a game due to the way the effects add up
its hard to say

Probably lag, probably paranoia, but the timing was odd.

Started after two when I had a slight lead. Happened occasionally on three and four, kept our scores fairly even. Host got synced early on five playing with a Banshee, didn't happen once while I handled the rest of the wave. Six and seven, it felt like I could barely get a shot off. Was better on eight and nine, only happened when I was hitting spawns. By ten the host had a 20k lead and it stopped.

And again, it didn't feel particularly laggy.

I've had this happen once on Hydra with the Batsol armed with Harrier. Only started on on the last few waves though, never happened before that and never came right. All the ammo got restored every time but the gun would only fire about 6 bullets with one reload in the middle.

Your host isn't that bad, dunvi. I get more lag on Dave's host than on yours.

I like Dunvi's host, Phantoms randomly firing off into space and Dragoons that couldn't hit a slowly side stepping Destroyer if their lives depended on it. Good times.

I can't think of a mechanism in game that would allow for someone to modify your ammo count. I could think of a way for someone to mess with the ammo boxes, but not what you carry.

I have encountered something similar before. In a game, I wasn't able to get any ammo from the crates or the thermal packs. I thought my game was glitched. But after the game finished and we came in the lobby and started another game, the same thing happened. The host had definitely modified his files, since I was able to get ammo once I quit that game and went to a different one.

Low FPS can be entertaining to say the least. Wouldn't recommend a sniper rifle though

It's lag related.

And you're really paranoid.

Modding a clip size / count doesn't work in most cases, unless it's setting the clip size to be infinity, in which case you would most certainly NOT be running out of ammo. AFAIK, clip size is completely client side, ergo your problem is lag related, not the host hacking to make sure you didn't top the score in a PvE game... :pinched:

Yeah precision aiming would be a problem with low FPS. My hosting is always easy because of this, lol. It's hard to get higher than 25 FPS on a good day.

It's possible. Combine lag with a host that has the command line open and he can modify anything, including which weapon you're using, or the amount of ammo total you should have.

Sounds like a keybinding/command line that modifies how much ammo each shot consumes. Can be normal, change the keybinding, and now every time you squeeze the trigger, it costs you 5 bullets.

Changes on the fly: not possible, ergo paranoia.

Fixed changes/infinite ammo/edited wave budget and spawn/enemy behaviors and damage: totally moddable by host.

Just look up "Mass Effect 3 Ultimate Experience Mod" and you will get a great idea of how scrubs can taint on you.

OP, what you had is something I've experienced a few times in the past, though not recently.

This has been a thread topic on a few occasions, the blame was placed on lag, not a hack.

The last time I remember having it, I was playing a match on White, but I don't think it is a map issue (like some of the crap that happens on Rio or Condor). Also, I don't think it is weapon specific.

What I've had most recently (days ago) is spare ammo going to 200 on the shotgun I was carrying. Not for the entire match, but periodically during the match. Almost the inverse of what you experienced. Interestingly, it was also on White.

Its possible but not through bin file modification (the more common type of hack). You'll need a trainer to do this and only the host can do it as all data is routed through him.

Any inconsistencies, the host will automatically trump your client, so theoretically the host could push your ammo to 0. Also this is the most common reason for rubberbanding. Your client tells the host you're at location X but the host disagrees due to never receiving your data on your movement and forces you back to your original position.

As trainers can be switched on and off at will due to it being an on-the-fly modification of memory, sporadic instances of such hacks is possible

Thread is based on score in a non-competitive co-operative DEAD videogame... And is played on Cheathouse champion PC.
