Holographic Ammo Display

I see it in some videos, it's missing in others, and in fact in one video I see both. I was just wondering what others have been saying about this and if this is optional/gun specific/another mechanic I'm missing?

The REAL definitive final edition of the HUD can be seen in any of the CES videos on Gametrailers

I've always thought HUD elements were part of the perks of wearing the armor we do and they were all generated by your suit. Aesthetically, I think the ammo counter on the gun is kinda weird and distracting.
what if you're not wearing a helmet with your armor? There loopholes to the armor method, if you wish to logically explicate everything.

What I'm a bit less enthusiastic about is the absolutely HUGE ammo type display. The icons just look a bit too corny, I'd rather just have the ammo counter in a different color for each ammo type or something. I guess they felt that that was too subtle.

And I don't know how to delete in this silly new forum.

But at any rate, I don't mind it.

For one, the display is on the right side of the gun, which would make it hard to see for the person shooting. Unless the individual is left-handed of course.
Second, enemies would see the ammo counter as well. I bet each of us can think of situations where it would be important that the enemy didn't know how much ammo you have left.
EDIT: Oh and when I say "Ammo" I mean "Shots before overheat"

I just want to point out that the Ammo Counter on the final edition of the HUD is NOT on the actual gun. The final HUD edition is in every CES video
Oh, you are right Javier.
I guess that erases my second point then.

... I love that game. I can't wait for the second one to come out:DToshiStation38 wrote...
I like it. It's sort of like Deadspace, and I find it worked really well in that game.
Nice sig btw

I disagree with you, OP. HUD elements are fine in first-person games, since it can be explained via the visor or optic implants, like in Metroid or Republic Commando, but for third-person games, like Mass Effect and Dead Space, it's more immersive to integrate it, like with the holographic display in ME2.

Yeah, I was disappointed to find out that they removed it. I love games with minimalist HUDs. I loved Dead Space and the Assassin's Creed series for their non-existent HUDs, it was so wonderfully immersive.

I find that those details of the HUD, when translated to the actual 3D space, tend to come off as contrived or at least unrealistic.
