Glad you're enjoying the game.

First point - your tactics are a little bit of a mess. Suicidalbaby did a very good guide to DA2's tactics. Well worth a read if you want optimal efficiency (which, let's face it, can make the difference between your companions being absolute hinderances and fight practically winning themselves).

http://social.biowar...index/6985076/1

The other thing to note is party composition. You're a full-range party, which is great, so if this is your usual party setup, you should really consider some nice devastating AOE spells, such as Fireball and Firestorm which can be such a pain for your melee fighters. Especially as you've (wisely) chosen Force Mage as your first spec and thus have excellent crowd control.

In fact, with Anders maxed out on the Creation tree, I'd say you have too much crowd control. That's both you and him dedicated to healing and cc in a game where damage is king. If you don't mind respec-ing I'd at least take his glyphs off him and give him some heavy firepower instead. Offence is the best defence in this game.

Heh, You're doing great. You must play better than I do. I never got use to using gravitic ring and pull of the abyss etc.

Tells us how you did against the various obstacles in the deep roads. That would be interesting with your 3 mage and varric party.

Merril level 11

Abilties
winters grasp
rock armor
chain lightning + upgrade
tempest + upgrade
solidarity
blood of the first
wounds of the past
wrath of the elven + upgrade
ensare

Tactics

enemy: clustered with at least three enemies = chain lightning
enemy: at least one enemy is alive = activate: rock armor
enemy: clustured with at least four enemies = tempest
enemy: at least one enemy is alive = activate wrath of the elven
self: surrounded by at least two enemies = ensare
enemy: traget rank is elite or higher = winters grasp
enemy: using magic attack = wounds of the past
ally: being attacked by meele or magic attack = wounds of the past
self: health >50% = activate blood of the first
self: health < 50% = deactivate blood of the first
enemy: any = winters grasp

the order of your tactics should be based on importance of what needs to happen 1st in any situation.  Survival is always paramount.  Without deactivate Blood of the First in the 1st spot she could be doing several actions when she would need healing from an outside source, wasting the heal in the process.  It needs to be priority.  Stone fist is a better utility choice than rock armor, especially early game.

self: health < 50% = deactivate blood of the first
self: Hp <50%: Health Poultice
enemy: using magic attack: Stone Fist
enemy: elite or higher: winters grasp
enemy: clustered with at least three enemies = chain lightning
self: mana <25%: use current condition for next tactic
self: health >50% : activate blood of the first
self: surrounded by 2 or more enemies: activate wrath of the elven
self: surrounded by at least two enemies = ensare
enemy: clustured with at least four enemies = tempest
self: at least one enemy alive: skip tactics
self: any: Deactivate Blood of the First

check out the tactics guide.

 Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies.
Well I made it trough the deep roads with my 3 mage + varrick party...
Suffered no damage what so ever untill the rock wraith ...
I did end up respecing before entering the depths of the deep roads here's what I used..
social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/305/index/7126577/1   (I copied bith specs and tacts )

I did have to improvise a little bit with the attributes/talents..
since I was only level 12 upon entering and 13 upon exiting ...

The "set party to aggressive" worked great, the shades, ogers you name it did'nt stand a chance even the dragon was not much of an challange using this set-up...

How ever this set-up proved to be less of ideal when facing the rock wraith... after a number of tries I decided to load a previous save just before leaving the camp (post fidinf the dwarf son) adding a rune of fire to my staff

moving arround some of my party's tactics... for example : enemy: health <90 use ... / attack ... and mana level < than x use lyrium potion ... and I had to monitor the health of both the party and my self...  3 times fire storm + gravtic ring have proven to by my best friend and ally in this fight... might add cone of cold and winters grasp were quite useful aswell....  Also, I bought all of the health + lyrium potions form the dwarf in camp.. something arround 2/3 per item...

After doing this I cleared the room and killed the rock wraith on my first try...  I know my hwake build is not Ideal yet since I haven't unlocked the bloodmage three yet, but I was already enough to get me through the deep roads...

for the part untill the rock wraight, if you use "move to position / hold " efficient you should be fine and free of any serious danger but enough action to keep it fun...

If any of you have some questions on any particular parts of the level/battles feel free to ask...

+ I did use the dog for taking at some point just not in the fight with the rock wraith... focus on fire + ice crowd control and areas of effect spells... once you do that the boss itself is not too much of a problem... just make sure to move and monitor... no party members died during my run through the deep roads...

Now on to act 2

Any tips feel free to reply

Any questions / comments feel free to do the same...

Thanks and keep up the good work guys, cool to see everbody is/was ;) (since the games has been out for a number of years) helping eachother , this forum a welcome addition to the game ! :)

ps also a massive thank you for you build / tactics replies... but after seeing the link a mentioned earlier and the youtube clips of the ; Team Glass Cannon by Sir Arelex and givin the fact that's exactly my approach of the game raising h*ll with a full ranged party MAGES in particular , I decided to go with his post patch 1.02 1.03 set-up

p.s my own set-up worked fine aswell just decided to load an old save respec and build for post deep roads fun aswell...

Thanks ,

Sam

the wraith wrecked me a little my first time through.after that i figured his pattern out.he is simple and im not even sure he should be a proper boss.maybe a mini boss.the dragon is harder and even then if you have aveline the dragon is simple.just..like all dragons in the game he has massive life but hardly any defense.especially if you rune frost runes into your weapons.

haha the frost runes will serve you well for the whole game as lots of things are weak to frost.qunari..dragons...etc.
