Exactly! Besides, Bioware constantly creates characters that 'are supposed to fight' (Isabela, Miranda) and yet give them totally 'unsuited for combat' look. (Half-naked pirate girl? Miss of the galaxy? Really, Bioware?) What I want is equality between PC and NPC looks. If they can be like models, PC should have an opportunity too. PC if forced to choose from crappy, short (yes, I'm crazy about it too) hair? Then please, don't give NPCs 'fabulous long hair' that without mods we can only dream about. It is just not fair.
Well it wasn't quite Miranda's long hair that made her a prissy Beauty Queen utterly coded for the straight male gaze; it was more about her collagen lips, skin-tight clothing, and positioning of the viewpoint camera. And as for Shepard, she is a soldier, so Miranda's hair would not have made sense. Not that I'm a fan of decreasing player agency, but I understand the decision at least (but again, personally, I prefer to give the player options even if they don't make "sense"... i.e. make-up).
But I'm on your side
